Just be a little careful regarding the COG point, I would not go forward of what SM suggest, on my Classic Hornet I moved the COG way back after the initial flight as it was very nose heavy. I know...not quite the same plane, just be aware.

Brian, will send you a more detailed pm tonight.

I had a smaller super hornet a few years back and was chasing a problem with it not tracking correctly, it ended up being flex inside the stabs but I had mistaken it for being tail heavy. I kept moving the CG forward trying to resolve it (not being aware of the true issue) I went really far forward and surprisingly it still flew ok! I feel a Superhornt just has the ability to fly really nose heavy compared to some other jets. Even thou the C model is its little brother they seem to be pretty different when CG is involved...

Getting pretty close!! Balanced her today and it took some serious nose weight! I try to avoid lead at all cost so I put the ecu battery all the way up in the nose and then 2) 2s 5000 mah A123 just behind it. I'm going for 125mm for the maiden and will work things back from there but don't want any bucking Bronco landings!!
I am not a fan of the pilots from Skymaster so I decided to make my own. First thing I found was thier "1/8 scale" pilots just looked to small so did some measurements and found it is actually about 1-7.5 scale. So my buddy Chris Wolfe from Jet Hangar Hobbies and RcGeek.com makes some really nice 1/7-1/7.5 busts. I trimmed down the torsos and used some cut down 1/6 flight suits filled with 5/16 foam tubing and they came out awesome! The only weigh 1.7 oz each and Chris even molded me some hands for them!
So I am sitting at 35lbs dry and guessing about 43lbs wet so I should be better than1:1 at take off!!

Well it was a no go today... Dark sky's and a pretty decent crosswind... Probably the like have been fine but I wasn't feeling it... I did get to run the turbine up a couple times and do some range check work. The 210 is a freaking monster, thought it was going to push me over!!! Her is a couple pics hope to get it in the air soon but of course the one weekend I'm ready it's storming in San Diego...........

Know the feeling, it has been raining everyday here in Texas, I don't think we will have a summer this year.
Looking good though man, you got a little closer! Is that the Camp Pendleton flying site? On your Kingtech are you running diesel and Kingtech oil?
Here is some inspiration! Looks like he used very little flap for takeoff.

Yep it was at camp Pendelton, it's a great flying spot but only open on weekends and holidays. It is a live LZ so some weekends it is closed including next weekend. That is Steve's F-18 I have not seen it fly in person but I have spoken to him a little bit about it. I am running diesel and kingtech oil, I run it in my K140 and even in my older P120. I have had great success with it. On the bench my 140 put out 34 lbs of thrust! I have heard from a few others that they noticed a little bit more power running diesel as well. Don't know if that's true but what I have heard. Some complain about the smoke it produces during shut down but I like it! If you are every flying at a noisy event and you have a flame out you will know it! I was shocked at the power of the 210 and the sound in the 18 is ridiculous! My buddy was holding it at one point and I went around behind the jet to check if the afterburner rings were working at full throttle and I could feel the ground shaking a little! Can't wait to give her a go but probably not going to be for at least 2weeks unless Pendleton opens up last minute next weekend......

Bri, I'm going to be running diesel and Kingtech oil also, but I see they changed the mixing ratio to one quart to 5 gallons of diesel, same as kero. But diesel is still way cheaper and it has more power.
I have been tinkering with my F-18, not much flying weather this year, winter was bad and now it won't stop raining and the wind is 15 to 20 most of the time. It's almost June and I have not even been in my pool yet this year!
I wonder if Damo260 got his tailhook installed? Here is where I installed the servo, just a mini servo with a control rod from a micro flyer, works good. You can get at the servo from the wheel well.
I also finished my exhaust cones, you can see that I added an extra panel line to the first ring:
I'm almost done with the rest of the equipment install in the nose section, so won't be long!

Looks good Luke! I hear you on the weather, we are in this raining cold windy stage out here but San Diego never stays messy for long.. This weekend is supposed to be nice but Pendleton is closed, hopefully the following weekend we should be good to go!!
The diesel does giv a tiny bit more punch, I like the smoke on shutoff since it would indicate a flame out if you had one....

Anyone know of an SM F-18 F running on P120 power?
I want to do something else with my KT 140 and I've always viewed my SM F-18 SH as an easy flyer, no fuss ... don't need a ton of get gone to get er goin
Seeing I can get some more push on the KT 140 on diesel makes me want to use it in another jet even more

Got all the plumbing basically done for the gear, brakes and speed brake. I did a test install of all my components under the cockpit prior to painting and finishing the mounting boards. Fuel filter, shutoff valve and air fill valves with associated gauges will all be under the engine hatch.

My goal was to be better than 1:1 on take off. I cut my teeth in jets with big EDF where you strive for 1:1 if possible, I know it's not necessary with turbine because of the efflux but I want to be able to do low speed high power maneuvers and the thrust is the key. I am estimating to be about 43-44lbs AUW so that would give me what I'm after. I just ordered the Xicoy digital CG machine and it will give me an accurate weight as opposed to the digital fish scale and ropes I'm using......
i I would go no less than a 180, you want that low end power if you ever get in trouble, you can always throttle back I did add a few reinforcements for running the 210 and had Tam make a pipe with a bigger diameter, it barely fits but is shorter so once you get it in the jet it fits perfect!
I have an igyro 3e on its way and plan on putting it in the F-18, I'm going to try it in my Habu32 and then maybe my Flash before it finds its way in the rhino.
