Hi..
wings and stabs were developing gap with fuse and on inspection it revealed that all wing and stab holding clamps bots are loose on my predator 2.2m,, after 37flights.. I replaced all the bolts with 25mm length as pilot bolts are small, 20mm, and where not coming out of lock nuts. so when ever you have issue replace the bolts. second I replaced the washer to big one to have more contact area over ply.

Just an update.

Thanks for the update. Any problems with your wing tube?

Mine also has some inconstant gaps on the stab. I used clear duct tape to seal the gaps. Over 100 flights and no problems. I figure this jet is much less expensive then others, so some inconsistencies can be expected. As long as they don’t compromise the flight characteristics and safety, I’m happy to accept them.

Can you send a picture of your clear duct tape fix. I’m curios how much it effects the appearance of the airframe.

Thanks

Anyone got a good set of rates and expo settings to start with? Factory recommended rates good enough?

That's such a personal feel thing. I'd set factory rates and adjust to taste.

I am away from home until Sunday night, I should be able to post some pictures for you when I get home. However with the clear duck tape (essentially stronger/thicker clear packing tape) its nearly unnoticeable, especially if you take your time to make sure there’s no bubbles.

I used the recommended rates, and still do in fact. As someone stated, it’s all personal feel, but it’s a good stable place to start. I find it it could use a little more roll, but it makes for a nice smooth starting point.

Hi,
My jet elevators are 3mm up trimmed , I had moved CG maximum backwards, shall I go for more?. I have fear of touchy elevators?

I would judge it by how it flies inverted more then how much up trim is showing. My elevator looks to be 2-3mm up, however it doesn’t need much down input when inverted.

Sorry for the delay, here are a few pictures with the tape sealing the gaps. It’s pretty hard to see that there’s tape on there. It’s a little more tricky on the bottom side, but not difficult.

OH! that is not cool at all. Have not put mine together yet but I will be pissed if this is the fit.

As I’ve mentioned I think it’s important to consider the cost of this jet compared to its competitors. It’s FAR less then the competition, so this is to be expected. To demand perfection at this price level I think is unreasonable. This jet offers exceptional value and has excellent flight characteristics. These “defects” don’t affect the flight performance at all, and you can’t see those gaps when it’s flying.

My fit is slightly better. But I need to be able to remove stabs for transport. I don’t think I will be able to tape them.

Duct tape on my custom paint job? "I don't think so Tim"; if I have to block sand them to true them then I will repaint the edges. AND "for the price" is not a qualifier for poor workmanship or design. Try that on full-scale and see what happens. JMHO

Ummm, Comparing a mass produced cheapest price point composite toy to a full scale plane is completely irrelevant. Having working in the full scale composite aircraft world, there are some fluctuating gaps with all of them.

I have two composite Harlock Vipers the are made of Airex that have a perfect fit and almost flawless paint jobs. They are $629 new. I sent my predator back because of poor fitment and many, many flaws in the paint job. I would not compare out models to full scale quality but I do thing that quality matters and a little more attention to detail is warranted in a $2500 composite jet. Saying that it is at the lowest price is not really an excuse for poor workmanship.

Nonsense, good workmanship is good workmanship so I will reserve further commentary until I test fit mine. I am a full-scale pilot too so I have been around the patch plenty.

You are correct. Good workmanship is good workmanship. At this price point and being a toy good workmanship is if it looks nice and stays together in the air and can take some abuse. Having perfect gaps and flawless paint is craftsmanship which is much less common and more expensive.

Well, I had to have my instant gratification so I unpacked the stabs and test fit them. They say a picture is worth a thousand words so here is my thousand. In summary, I would never duct tape anything on my planes that can be fixed with some time & talent.
Yours looks like a V1 with the removable rudder, correct?
