Well sirs,
I would hope you are not implying a lack of experience on MY part (CJ2002)...

Hoversmooth999 - of course not...I refered to 'here', meaning in the UK.
Incidentally, I put 2 more flights on my Velox this morning - strong wing (30 kts+) and drizzle put paid to the day.
Cheers,

RE: VELOX.. Build thread with Photo's..
This cobra stall happens to me on my Stingray Jet which is a delta wing. It has nothing to do with the flaps but the boom is too short from the wings and needs to be further back. This creates the Cobra. Make sure to keep power on the landings to avoid this stall cause it can flip or land on the tail and ruin everything. Also reinforce the plywood for the retracts cause this cobra will land flat from this stall at 5 to 15 feet.

RE: VELOX.. Build thread with Photo's..
Hello,
Thank-you CJ2002, I understand. Well, I think that both you, Skywalker and a couple of others have just about hit the spot on this and I can focus more on having some fun with my Velox this Sunday rather than using up all my fuel on testing. I still want to experiment a little though. Skywalker's reply seems to make good sense and I am satisfied with that idea thank-you sir. I still love this jet and in my opinion I think it has better curves on it than a lot of the twin-boomers. Thank-you all and I'll come back with some pics and hopefully a vid after this weekend.
Regards,
Emilio

RE: VELOX.. Build thread with Photo's..
Hello everyone,
Well I went out and flew this last Sunday but winds were at 25 MPH! I still decided to fly to see how she handeled the wind. Had a little bit of wag but tracked pretty well through higher speeds. I did land early having no further wish of risking my beautiful Velox. With some gusts at 30 MPH a flight can become fairly exciting, Wheww. Sadly, since I fly off a grass runway, some thick grass grabbed a hold of one of my strut doors and ripped it off. Should'nt be too bad of a repair. Maybe this weekend will bring some better weather.
Regards,
Emilio

Thanks for all the posts on this thread. I just ordered a Velox yesterday for my winter project, a first jet.
Quick question.. I'n trying to decide on the turbine... is a P-80 too much motor or too much weight in the tail? I can't decide to get it or the P-70.

Wren SS, JC Rabbit.
I have the JC Falcon in mine... lots of go juice, but the Rabbit would save some weight for almost the same thrust.

....Turbine..?....always a hot potato...
If it was my call it would be the Wren SS..no shadow of a doubt...same size and weight as the legendary MW54 MKIII but bith 17N more thrust...
There is lots of room at the back of the Velox but you need to keep it as light as you can
Ron Ballard (Wren Turbines USA ) from Decatur, IN, USA...is the man.

RE: VELOX.. Build thread with Photo's..
There no bad habits just bad pilots. Every plane has it's flaws. Whether it lacks Speed, Looks, Flying, landing, Snap Rolls, Hoovering and Seeing. There's no perfect plane that can have everything perfect. If there is.. It's a bunch of different planes put together. So don't be scared of the Cobra and fly like a Pro

RE: VELOX.. Build thread with Photo's..
Does anybody have a set of retracts, struts, wheels and brakes for the velox in good condition....I have just inherited a velox that a fellow flier could not get to fly stable!! He said it had a habit of the nose pulling up and sitting on the tail....so he gave the air frame to me...Any help will be much appreciated!!!
Thanks,
Tommy

Does anybody know if a P70 will fit on the Velox and allow the turbine cover to be used? Any mods?
I finally ordered my plane (blue/yellow), now trying to decide on the right turbine.
Also, there's an advertiser on this site... jetpower.au that is offering sizeable discounts on the planes and turbines... anybody ever heard of them?

I always say I'm going to do a build thread, and I really do appreciate reading everybody else's... but when it comes to build time, I always get too involved in building stuff instead of documenting my progress.
Maybe this time I'll do it right!

RE: VELOX.. Build thread with Photo's..
I have a jet and the retracts I will sell everything for $800 plus shipping. I got it shipped grayhound from Florida to New Jersey for about $50-$60. I got it a few months ago from a guy who flew it a flew times and pulled the gear out the last time he flew it. Looks like it came out real clean and he did a nice job putting all new wood in it. The top of the fuse cracked a little on the right side and he touched it up, but the piant is not a good match. I had planned to just touh up and clear that myself, but not into jets anymore.

RE: VELOX.. Build thread with Photo's..
Two questions:
1. Has anyone used crow on this plane? If so what are your thoughts? Unneccesary, useful??
2. Has anyone else had to add washers to the front of the turbine for more down thrust? Mine wanted to climb at higher throttle setings.
Thanks.

The flaps are very powerful. I didn't use crow and didn't ever think I needed to. The plane slows down great. I found it easy to land. Never experienced the "Cobra" maneuver everybody has talked about. Just have high elevator rates available. I found with proper elevator mix in with down flaps I needed more elevator to comfortably land

How much flap are you using?? I cut the bottom of the trailing edge just before the flap to give me about 50% flap. I tried landing as a I normally do and as you said "The flaps are powerful" I missed the field by about 50 feet. (short) I was just wondering if I am useing too much flap and are you landing with a lot of power??
Thanks
Hoss

RE: VELOX.. Build thread with Photo's..
I was using about 35 degrees of flap. I did the same thing cutting out the bottom of the wing in order to get enought travel. I landed with about 50% throttle on baseleg. the 25% at about 10 feet cutting to idle just before the wheels touched down. Hope this helps

So you are only using 35 degrees of flap?

RE: VELOX.. Build thread with Photo's..
Yup 35% works great for me. Slows down nice. I am using a P-80 so residual thrust is higher than the P-70 you are using. I was very careful not to get the jet at too high an angle of attack on final, I actuall aproached at a very slight down angle flaring only at about 6 ft (once I was in ground effect) I actualy feel the Velox is MUCH easier to land than my Kangaroo
