RE: VELOX.. Build thread with Photo's..
Check your fuel tank. Mine was only 74 ounces. I was able to install an additional 24 ounce tank next to it for a total of 98 ounces. That placed my main tank slightly off center line. I flew for 7 minutes on my timer. Most of the flight was WOT. That left me a couple of minutes in reserve. Plane flies great! Never had the Cobra issue , but I was aware of the "quirk" and never put myself in that condition!

RE: VELOX.. Build thread with Photo's..
The hardware pack did NOT come with mine and now I just had it shipped to me[:@] I ALREADY installed ALL the servos. The manual shows that I needed to use plywood blocks to mount the servos to. And to cut out the little plywood blocks that are in the servos bays. My servos would not fit without cutting the blocks out. (Hitec 645mg) Then scuff up the servos and the back of the servo covers and ca the servos to the servos covers. I also used Hysol too! Is this fine? Bascially the only thing holding the servo in the pocket is the 4 little screws that screw in the servo cover...

I was just looking at the manual for the rookie II (I used to have one) and I installed the servos on my rookie the same way as I did on the Velox and it was fine.... I made sure and sanded the servo hatch with 80 grit sandpaper and also the servo, and glued it with Hysol along with wooden blocks attached to the servos which are attached to the servo hatch...

You guys using the stock fuel tank? It sits in front of the cg[X(] when the tank is at full won't the model be way nose heavy? Or are you guys noticing no trim changes from full tank to empty?
Thanks

Just a quick THANK YOU to Treadstone for contributing this thread, and many other bits of information over the years. For those that didn't read the other post, he passed away last week.

Did the maiden on my Velox yesterday! All went well. Landed a bit hard as I am used to not coming so hot on landings. Thanks to Mr. John Hoppe and Mr. Carlos Reyas!

I told you it would be nice with a P80. Just be careful you don't horse it off the ground on take off. It seems like it wants to stall. Just get enough ground speed and take off gently. To much elevator and it will stall. Again GOOD LUCK

I have heard that the front wing anti-rotation pins (where the cg is) were moved on the newer kits?? Thats why the first versions of the kits had the cg way to forward??..[X(]

RE: VELOX.. Build thread with Photo's..
Maiden my Velox the other day, flies very nice; I did not notice the cobra effect but I did not let it slow down enough to let it happen. My build was a little different due to a problem with the kit:
- My left boom was totally warped so I ended up hysoling the entire fuse, booms, and elevator together, frame is rock solid but now the pieces are permenently glued.
- The trailing links struts from Jet A1 actually bend lower than the gear doors, so when you land kind of hard (like I did one time) the doors will hit the ground. My doors ripped out but I fly it anyways without any noticeable difference in flight characteristics.
My Setup:
- P60, turned up to 171k RPM, so i probably get 14 to 15 lbs of thrust. I can take off at 600 ft of runway no problem. Might be a little difficult on 300 ft but it could be possible with some flaps.
- 5955TG on elevator, 5985 everywhere else
- Trailing links struts, works great and definitely softer than the stock struts but as mentioned, they go lower than the gear doors.
- 1221 receiver (JR) with EQ10 Smartfly powerexpander.
- Two SinCityJets A123 batteries
- One Impluse 3200 LIPO for the ECU.
I get 4:30 mins at WOT with about 1 to 1.5 inches of fuel left in the main tank (Remember, I have a turned up P60). The velox flies just like the BobCat, very predictable and very smooth. Remember that I did not let my velox slow down enough for a cobra and the p60 is just enough power to fly it (still fun though). I would recommend a Wren SS or p80. My friend is putting a p120 in his and I'll post back on how it flies (if it holds up) with 30 lbs of thrust.
