Sorry to hear about your Bandit loss Carlos, we had a [link=http://www.largemodelassociation.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=136]33% escape from one of our pilots[/link] last year but we recovered it.

The system I've seen so far for models use have all been pretty short range, would be good to know if there are some viable solutions out there.

Hope you find your Bandit soon and in good condition!

I use a transmitter / receiver combo that we often use in law enforcement. There are two transmitters. The short range one is a 1 mile range, the long range one is a 5 mile range. They are $50 / $100 respectively. The receiver is $250.

Only problem.....no export []

At the average speed of a Bandit, I'd start looking around Ceuta.

Sorry for your loss!

If you know someone who owns an Ultralight or could hire one to look for the Bandit it might work. I have heard of them being used to spot lost models. The Ultralights can fly 50 feet off the ground at 40 mph- excellent for looking for small objects on the ground. Scotty

Hi Carlos,

I saw one Bandit flying over Lisbon last week

I am truly sorry about your loss and hope you find your airplane. I flew in that track last year during the Furaventos event. It's a tricky track.

Inform your local club and police. Maybe someone can pick it. Watch for e-bay and forum sellers. What turbine were you using?

All the best

Nuno

We use [link=http://www.com-spec.com/rcplane/index.html]this system[/link] with excellent sucess in our club. Its surrounded by very tall vegetation in a wetland. I don't fly without it!

That's the one! We use their trackers on EVERYTHING!

Like I said up top, they have a 1 and 5 mile range system......just no export....

If I wouldn't have had one of these in my plane, My Bandit would still be in the swamp. I was literally 5 feet from it and still couldn't see it.

Saved my a few thousand already.

Hi:

I use the Eagletree telemetry system with GPS.

I can have on line, all the info of the model including its track in a Google Earth map of the field.

Once the model is lost you can see the red line track in the map and get the coordinates where the line was interrupted or even if the telemetry is still working, you can see the dot where the model is and find it with a GPS.

You guys can do away with the expensive systems and directional high dollar trackers etc. etc.

All you need is a simple scanner and................drum roll please.................

A BIG RED BEE

Do a google search for the big red bee. A fella designed it over in your neck of the woods Chad. It is a simple tracking beacon around 400 mhz. It is programmable. I have my ham call programmed along with a series of morse code beeps. Morse code can be heard above any other type of communication on a frequency when all else fails. It can be tracked with a simple hand held radio scanner and a rubber duck antenna. When you get close to the model, pull the antenna off the scanner and keep walking. I tracked full scale radio beacons for years doing this and always found my beacon.

Mace,

I'll check it out. I actually didn't think $50 was too expensive. Our club owns a receiver, so that eliminates that cost. If a few people got together and split a receiver, you're only left with $50 for a transmitter. They are worth their weight in gold, LITERALLY!!

I agree with Chad. After looking at the Red Bee site I think that the $50 transmitter that we are using is a better deal. It uses a calculator battery and is waterproof...a necessity given that we fly next to a wetlands and swamp. This unit will transmit for 30 days...the Red Bee suggests something just over 48 hours for battery life. We have them in all of the jets and IMAC planes here. The Red Bee probably has its uses tho.

Sorry for Your loss! Hope You´ll find it without collateral damage. How about putting an iPhone onboard and use the phone finder function if the model is lost. It should show the location in Google map...

Carlos, it happened to us 2 times. In one instance a member with access to a full size plane was able to overfly the area and find the downed aircraft. In the other case, a member that was taking helicopter lessons did overfly the area w/his instructor and spotted the plane. With the instructions from both pilos the members found and recoveres the planes. Apparently from above the wrecks are very visible...

Te deseo buena suerte

Hola Carlos, as Edgar said, we splitted the locator cost between several
members of our club, and the cost was minimal. The reciever in the plane
is very small and the price is ridiculous if it saves a plane. Espero que
lo encuentres.

Sorry for you loss bro. I lost radio contact on my yellow F16 a few months ago and it flew to almost out of site. I ended up using my sons big nasty trainer plane and cut a hole in the fuse and installed a small video camera. Took off from the airfeild and got into the back of a truck and flew it while my freind drove my truck back into the woods where I saw it and I did this 3 times covering alot of ground and found it this way! I was shocked it really worked but it did. Before I used a full scale piper cub and couldnt find it but my sons ugly little plane got it!
