RE: Classic Jets
Just working on my new Hunter and then onto getting the New large Skymaster Hawk up and ready. Might give the Viper and Mach 1 an airing as well ( be rude not to)
looking forward to it as ever.
When can we make it a two day event
Regards Al

Christine's eyes are smarting a bit...she's just cut up 25 Kg onions! My restraint's being severely tested now...she's just brought out 160 rockbuns to wrap!

RE: Classic Jets
Dick,
Have a good time tomorrow!! Wish i was there
Weather here does not look promising....hope yours will be better!!
Reuben
Sure Dick will chip in, but he likes the 50's "classic" types...Hunter mad
Dw
Weather's set to be OK...shame you couldn't make it...maybe for RIAT next year?!
Dave,
Yes, you got it near about right. The name was borne in the pub when Paul Lewis and I were discussing doing a one-off invitational jet event to try and attract the type of jets we both favour (the classic early jets) to the birthplace of the World's Jet Meets (Abingdon). It was to be a one-off, but we did a second, then Paul got diverted elsewhere, so I carried on with the intention of maybe doing a couple more...didn't quite go to plan - 10 years has gone by and tomorrow's is the 40th.
I have the gate list here from the first CJ, and your name's on it! Of interest is the fact that Gordon Whitehead, who organised the first ever jet meet way back in 1981, will be there tomorrow too (along with the other 54 pilots and 100+ pit crew that're booked in).
Cheers,
Dick

The CJ meetings are diary changing events that I do everything not to miss. I think I've missed 2.
Flying and food...heaven! I have two chaps on the road now from Glasgow coming down to see some real jet flying and for me to test fly a PCM Tristar ones just finished...P80SE powered, his mate has a £100 bet with me to do a low inverted pass...wouldn't think of it
Still working on my Electra which won't be finished, luckily it's Chalgrove sunday so it still has a chance, there really is a god!
See you in the AM

Back and going through my shots before posting from official M&R photographer Paul Baker's 1400 shots! Great day, very busy, didn't stop all day with test flights and my own fleet. Thanks to Dick, Christine, (big Sis) ,Geoff, Trevor, Phil Mr Flightline, Keith and all the other workers. I'm knackered!
Plenty of BobCat Composite and Bandits at this meeting, three CARF Hawk's and plenty of Flashes, plus lots of other models. Tim J's turbine Spark, Geoff Leigh's Javlin, Big Geoff's AW Hawk, Ian Worsdel's BC, Jonathan Glass's Jet Legend F-16 etc etc

RE: Classic Jets
Another great days flying at classic jets! I have no idea how many flights were logged today but it must run into the hundreds and as ever the standard of flying was excellent.
Notable events to me was the test flights of two Comp Arf Hawks, the test flight of Ali's new HT Modelbau Hunter. We also had some good formation flying by Tim Jenkinson and Robbie Meek with their Comp Arf lightnings and also Paul Heckles and Ali with the Cougar and Viperjet respectively.
It was great to have Gordon Whitehead attend as he organised the first ever jet meeting at Abingdon back in the 80's.
Finally, I didn't get either of the names of the two scottish modellers but it was real dedication as it took, I think, 7 hours for them to drive to the event. But they seemed really happy with their newly test flown PCM tristar and we look forward to seeing them again.
Geoff.

RE: Classic Jets
Dick and all crew many thanks for putting on a superb event. It struck me today that the food you provide is spot on for this type of event even the luxury wagon wheels with the jam shows attention to detail. The behind the scenes effort is quite something.
For myself it was a superb day having test flown my Comp ARF Hawk which flew beautifully and also an airing for the BD5, again going well. Went home with an empty fuel station.
Thanks.
Trevor Skedge.

Alec Gough and John Josey drove from Glasgow so I could test fly Alec's Tri Star/JetCat P80Se. Flew great, even with un equal flaps and a stuck nose door!

More shots from Paul Baker's camera (official M&R photographer) He's given me a 4gb stick to trawl through! Big files I can only post in small groups

RE: Classic Jets
I finally managed to make it to Abingdon for the last couple of hours, as attractive as my applied maths instructor is (which is a distraction really as i am looking at her figure rather than the figures on the board) i was inpatient to leave and make my way up the A34. Although i did not fly, these meets are well worth the journey regardless as the social aspect is every bit as good . . . if not more so than the flying, Dick and his team doing a fantastic job as usual. Was keen to get a glimpse of Ali's Hunter ( that P160 looks lost inside!) Steve Elias' UB with the drop tanks looked good, had a nice whistle to it, Phase 3 Squall's are popular and for good reason, i liked the new scheme on the Mach 1 and it seemed to be getting a good workout aswell. Hopefully i will be able to get there earlier for CJ41!

RE: Classic Jets
Cheers to Dick and team for another great Classic Jets!! It was the first jet meet for my 2 week old daughter and she slept through nearly all of it, so she obviously likes the noise as much as I do
