RE: 2005 F3A World Championships
Hi thef , thats a big big bowl of excrement your starting to stir there!! whover thou shall be ( and herbertdesigns) have aired your views seriously prematurely, the competition is not even finished and accusations are everywhere, hope that wasn't deliberate!!
Anyway, be fair to just wait till you get complete feedback from the US team etc.

Guys lets not go there at all.
There can always be made accusations and the look of bias is always going to be present.
There are 20 judges...If one was extremely bias in a single round well he was not judging the other round as they were divided into two groups of 10. Onda had a 991 in one round and a 976 in the other...The difference to get a 976 instead of a 991 is about 1 pt on a single figure of K5
Politics is part of the game, and it is my firm belief that every judge sitting in the chair regardless of the NATS, TEAMS, Worlds, or even the local contest puts forth his best effort in the chair. Some may not agree with that effort....
This is why TBL is used to help eliminate Judging bias and create a judge rating to evaluate the judges.
We are all sitting here at home....They are there flying and judging. None of us Saw the flights, and if we did we couldn't agree on their outcome anyways. The Worlds has chosen 20 judges from around the world to make the decision.
The effect that any one judge might have is pretty small and after TBL I bet its nearly nothing.
Its bad taste to complain about a judges result. Its not our job. I will also say that my opinion is that the judge in question is of the highest character, and integrity. I will say the same for other judges that I know have been there. Earl Haury, Don Ramsey, Mike Dunphy....and others that I have known.
They are working for the best result and striving to get the pilots classified correctly. Their job is to find fault....They count the errors and record the result for each and every figure. It is not our place to find fault with their result.
If there is a problem TBL will show it and the contest management can act on such things just like they did back after the 1995 Worlds in Japan.
Congrats to all finalists
Good Luck to all of you!
Go Chip and Jason!

Hasn't been 24 hours and we've already got a copy cat! You can see the proffesional installation and construction methods used to attach the advanced air flow deflector, he must be an expert! This guy's going to be a major threat next year, watch out!

Acrobat is a changed man, both he and his mate Smouty say these models knife edge awsome now!

It does improve the knife edge and the spin in a placebo kinda way. The little wing must completely overide the main wing even though its ten times smaller, and acts as an overiding keel all in the huge prop wash amazing . Its a shame f1 cars aerodynamics dont have a huge prop wash improving there little tweeks performance as well pfffft lol.
The Caprice, the Success biplane and the little wing on the top of your model keep going CPLR you get funnier every 2 years with your decoys lol.

Piotr, in one of your photos, it looks like one of the competitors is using a Plett inside the spinner cone. Is he also using one inside the engine compartment for a super twist on a twin configuration? It looks like he may be doing just that, but can't really tell from the photos. Any other details on that set-up?

(Photo from Piotr's page).
That ought to be Bernd Beschorners plane. He has the Plett mounted up front to help improve the cooling. Outrunners have this problem that most heat is generated inside the engine (as opposed to Hackers, which can be cooled from the outside). This also helps in moving the battery pack more aft, which might affect flying. It is not a double setup (it would be awfully heavy!!!).

One thing I noted: CPLR flew with an "Oxalys Evolution" with NO ZN signs. Producer seems to be http://www.flyingstar.it/ . Anyone got infos on what happened to CPLR/ZN?

Team GB came 9th
Angus
ps I agree with Troy's comments about the judging. My own observations were that CPLR and Onda were in a different league. Both flew exceptionally well and really deserved the one, two. Roland also flew superbly (his rolling circles in the unknowns were awesome) and really deserved to take the final podium spot.
My congratulations to all competitors and teams.

RE: 2005 F3A World Championships
Well I ended up surprising my brother by showing up at the end of the day Friday at the field and watched the finals on Saturday. I've gotta say that after watching some flights, and the scores given, I was a bit surprised. Onda though I thought had the contest (IMO), and will be a well known person over many years, since he's only 18 now!
I'm hoping for my brother's sake he doesn't end up flying 1st in any contest for a loong time! lol
Here's a shot during the creation of the unknown pattern:
