I agree, why lose the plug and play just to get rid of the cam style. Just curious to see if you came up with a solution for that. But back to your thread.....beautiful work.

Cheers,
Wade

Hallo from germany,

very good work - but one little big mistake ! The gun shield is 7 mm to high for the turret front ! Look to the photos please. I have build up the perfect scale turret too - it`s the only bad mistake !

Best regards from an old german Leo 1 platoon leader

Guenther

Thanks. Be aware that this tank has the whole fulcrum assembly fabricated, and I did not use the kit parts. You may be right in the fact that the gun shield is high, but if you are basing that on the kit then you may be in error, as I did something completely different then the kit instructions suggested. Pretty hard to tell in the photo's, but I will check it. Next time I have this turret apart I will look a little closer and look at lowering it slightly

Again thanks

Hi there,

I am new builder and have not started any projects yet as I am still researching. First off, Dan great work on the Leopard 2 and Leopard 1A5 projects that you have worked on.

I was thinking of making the Leopard C-2 MEXAS in the 1/16 scale, however the availbity of upgrade/conversions kits is an issue and it would seem like everything has to be scratched built. I did not realize there were two diffrent turrets based on the A5 and A4. Dan are you making both conversions? Ie like on the forum ?

http://www.network54.com/Forum/16923...8/C2+Mexas+WIP

It is excellent website that has great details on the build's on diffrent Leopard's. When I was on the website I came across this excellent link to a build on Leopard C-2 MEXAS in 1/16 scale that is almost complete! The only thing is this blog is all in German, however from what Ican tell he paid $150 Euros for the hull, turret, cannon, and some other odds and ends. The only question is from where? Perhaps Guenther can help us out with that! Can this stuff be bought online?

http://www.rc-panzerketten-forum.com...tuser=0&page=1

This blog is really well detailed on the build and is seems that he used systrene I think do a scrath build on the MEXAS armour modules.

Dan did the Tamiya 1A4 kit from AAF include metal treads?

Another option I was thinking is buying the MEXASkit 1/35 from Maple Leaf for a point of reference and scaling it up. However, to my dismay that company no longer exists and I have checked my local hobby stores and they sold out of these kits a long time ago.

By any chance do you know if you local hobby retailer has these kits on hand?

Thank you,

Shawn.

Hey Dan,

I almost forgot you can make two or three versions of the leopard based on the hull that you have. You just need to buy the upper hull that you can buy for $16.50 Euros from an online hobby store. You can perhaps get it from ebay or somewhere else.

http://www.axels-modellbau-shop.de/k...ale::7784.html

One upper hull you can modify in MEXAS variant good for two versions of the Leopard. The other upper hull you can can keep unchanged for the either the A4 or A5 variant.  If you can just buy that turret from that unknown German retailer (Please Guenther can you find out who that is)

http://www.rc-panzerketten-forum.com...tuser=0&page=1

I think it would be cheaper for you to modify that turret (above link) into a MEXAS version. Dan you paid good money for the A5 turret and I think you should not cut up and modify it if you don't have to.

Guenther I came across another website and I don't know what scale they build Leopard's in and wondering if you can shed some light on it

http://www.modelltrans.de/home/

They make:

Mine roller (Urdan) for canadian Leopard's 1

Leopard C1A1 MEXAS (ISAF). Conversion for Revell Leopard 1A5

Thank you,

Shawn.

Hey Dan,

Sorry I am not sure if it is complete kit or parts of a kit. Hopefully, Guenther can tell us.

Take care,

Shawn.

Nice sounding build YHR.

FYI: the resin turret kit box art photo shows the armor riding a tick high and check out these Leo reference images.

And here is my box art full option/TBU Tamiya Leo 1A4: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDbkh6LwMnA

Modelltrans.DE says 1/72 scale. maybe they could be used to measure and scratch build?

Thanx MAUS45 for the clarification on the Modelltrans scale. That is exactly what I was thinking of using the models to help scratch build the MEXAS armour. Ichecked around and found a Polish website that sells three diffent variants of the Canadian Leopard 1 that is of interst in the 1/72 format. There are two companies, one called Cromwell Models and other is Modeltrans that created these kits.

From what I can tell whoever the builder is on the German website:

http://www.rc-panzerketten-forum.com...tuser=0&page=1

fabricated a lot of parts by sketching them out and going over photos from books, on the computer, etc.

Hey Dan,

Got some good news!! I got in contact with the builder of the Leopard C2 from this site:

http://www.rc-panzerketten-forum.com...tuser=0&page=1

He actually speaks English and you can converse with him here:

http://www.network54.com/Forum/16923...AS+Dozer+Build

His name is Micheal and he has been very helpful in providing me background info on his build. Also he might be able to get turret-hull for you if you need it. Right now he is in the process of scratch building 2 X  C6-GPMG. If you go to the rc-panzerketten-forum you can see how he is doing it. You both should trade notes and maybe you can help each other out.

Moreover, I got contact with Paul Fredenburg and he has a great build of the Leopard C2.

http://www.network54.com/Forum/16923...opard+C2+MEXAS

I have question for you. Did the Tamiya Leopard 1A4 1/16 kit you purchased from AAF include metal treads or where they made out of nylon? I am planning on buying the
Tamiya 1A4 kit and this will help me in deciding on buying the kit or everything separately.

Thank you,

Shawn.

Wow! really nice build there!  I would love to do a canadian tank actually, but canadians dont really do tanks as you show there are the Leopards and Leopards 2 and the RAM, and maybe the M4 Grizzly? i'm not much into the modern tanks so it would be a RAM I guess or a grizzly, could be easier with a M4 base...really really good job!

Canadians ran all kinds of M4s in WWII. There is no shortage of modeling opportunites for Canadian tanks in WWII, My particulair favorite is the 1c Hybrid Firefly

Thanks. I like this tank a lot, and as others have shown you can really go all out with mods on this model.
