I have viewed my own Video and found a few to be telling on my success with my Power System Setup as follows:

2:46 - Low Approach with High Speed Pass (right at 3/4 throttle)

3:29 - Cruising at 1/2 Throttle the model was commanded to climb for a Hammer Head and did with strong abilities.

3:50 - Another High Speed Pass at 3/4 Throttle

The only issue was at 4:20 after a nice High Altitude Roll and I was using Rudder to help it with smooth SCALE like Roll and forgot to let go of Rudder and she almost spin downwards!

Prior to my Maiden I carefully setup my DX7 (computer Radio) with the correct D/R and Expo for smooth controls at the sticks and you are correct without flying this model on Low Rates like I have for two flights already the results might not have been so nice!

Okay,

For those interested, I uploaded today's Flight Video of my Corsair at Vimeo!

3rd Flight and still going!!!!!

Monday morning (11-18-2013) in union with at least 18 RC Club members (sorry no video), I took advise and rode the Rudder and take off was Scale and the Battery measured 16.68 Volts but, was not topped off and I was amazed in the performance. Once the Model was in the air, the retract were commanded for retraction in the UP position and made some good level approaches with nothing more than ¾ throttle and it zoomed passed the pilots station with very good airspeed and at least three RC Club members that have been in the Hobby for a very long time and own, fly Large GLOW said,

“It has good amount of Airspeed plus you have a good margin of power using that AXi 4120/28”

Noting my mistake from Sunday’s landing (Bounce), after a little over 5 minutes (I was overdue), I called “LANDING” from the North as the Wind (6-MPH) was coming directly from the South and straight down the runway (150 feet length, approximately). At the turn and about 100 feet from the edge of the runway, I reduced power almost at Dead Stick, however, I maintained at least 1/5 throttle with a slight nose down attitude. Once the model was exactly one foot off the deck and at the edge of the runway, I quickly readied some Down Elevator as soon as the mains touched and she rolled on her Mains with just a fascinating manner! All those there gave me applause and yelps!

The measured value after the 5+ minute flight was recorded as 15.38 Volts so, it was still able to maintain flight for another couple of minutes. As soon as I get this Turnigy 4-Cell, 3300mAH, 30C, Lithium Polymer charged, I will come back and share how many (mAH) was placed back in the battery.

Those at the RC Club congratulated me on acquiring such as nice HANGAR9 Corsair model that looks terrific and most especially flew great! The conditions were much better this morning as the high clouds kept this cool and Sunlight still penetrated for good visual.

END of Monday’s FLIGHT SUMMARY!

Just to be clear as to why I opted to Video record on Sunday morning.....

Most of the RC Club members are not at the RC Club on Sundays' primarily because they come Monday's through Saturday. It just so happens that Sunday was the best weather conditions in over one solid week and I opted to fly my Model yesterday (Sunday) when no one is there, except a buddy from Orlando that came to meet me in case I needed help.

So, today, since my family member overslept and I missed the Van (Commuter Van - Van Pool Vehicle), I wasted no time super early this morning and packed up the car and went straight to the RC Club and arrived at 7:15am and found all the Regular RC Club members there! They quickly came over to Ooo and Aaaa the nice Balsa Corsair since most of them have the "FOAM"

Of course the older gentlemen there were also there who own and fly the large Balsa and those were the ones who were pleasantly pleased with the Electric Setup and informed me of good Airspeed and congratulated on my efforts in NOT overpower the model and enjoyed the scale flight.

Thanks!
Carlos

Hi Guys!

My Buddy (Gerry) came with a Memory Stick full of the High Resolution Pictures during my Maiden a few weekends ago....

I selected a few that had not been posted before....

Nice pics, reminds of ones taken of my Corsairs. I too am fond of the AXI motors, and the capability of using online motor calculations to determine best motor/ prop/ battery combinations for optimum efficiency, AND I too prefer 'scale flight' as opposed to 'skyrocket' power. Keep up the good work.

Thanks so much! Over at the "OTHER" RC SITE Thread, even though I posted my Video to prove that 475 Watts is good enough with this 7.3lbs. model, several doubting Thomas's came over to say that my setup is overly UNDER POWERED. Well, the model has 5 Flights with all kinds of Wind Conditions and at times Dumb Thumbs and it has NOT crashed.

This model is the best that Hangar9 has ever produced in a Corsair clothing and wished it was still made.

Again, thanks for coming over to say hello!

Saturday Morning (11-23-2013)

Saturday morning in Central Florida was just magical. Mid 70's and wind was just nothing until 9:30am.

I came to the RC Club rather late, just about 9:00am and wasted NO TIME and got my Hangar9 F4U-1D Corsair out and did the connections and bolted on its wing and the model got placed on the runway and had a super 5 minute flight using my Turnigy 4-Cell, 3300mAH, 30C, Lithium Polymer pack.

After the RC Club, went with my RC Flying buddy to Lunch and then, to his home to study new RC Models that have been out recently and checking out list twice! I looked down and it was almost 3:30pm in the afternoon!!!

Sunset around here is now right at 5:28pm so, again, wasted not time and went to the RC Club again and topped off the Turnigy 4-Cell pack for making the 6th flight possible.

As promised here is the PUT-BACK (mAH) after the 3rd Flight from last Monday morning. Took a picture as soon as the Charger reached Full Charge and this was right before my model's 4th flight.

Thereby, on a typical 5 - 6 minute flight the Power System (AXi 4120/18) while swinging the MAS 3-Blade 13 X 8 X 3 used up ..

1790mAH was observed to be placed back!

Reached up to accomplish my 5th flight as conditions were magical right before Sunset and here are some pictures I took right before the 5th flight!

Also, I got my 1992 Toyota Camry back from the Paint & Body shop and now I can place the model in the trunk!

MotionRC is the best!

I received (in record time) my new Admiral 4-Cell, 4,000mAH, 40C discharge, Lithium Polymer pack and it is practically identical in size dimensions as the Turnigy 4-Cell, 3300mAH, 30C, Lithium Polymer pack that I am flying my Corsair presently.

Best, the new Admiral came with the T-Connector already soldered and can't wait to see the difference with the 40C discharge rating.

I had plans to change out the MAS 3-Blade Propeller and replace it with an XOAR Electric 2-Blade, 13 X 8 wood propeller but, want to observed what performance increase, if any, the new Admiral Battery pack allows.

Specific Battery is at:
http://www.motionrc.com/admiral-4000...-lipo-battery/

A good RC Buddy sold me one for a RC airplane model he sold me and I have been hooked on these Batteries ever since! They have explosive Power and are Lighter than anything I have got from Hobby-King!

DECEMBER 4th, 2013

Guys!

Just an amazing morning today! In the wee early hours of this morning, I was able to gather several APC “E” Propellers and mostly 2-Blade (14 X 8, 14 X 12, 13 X 8, and 13 X 10) and played around with the On-Line P-Calc estimator and finally decided going with the 13 X 10 as it would result at least another 10 MPH top speed over the MAS 3-Blade 13 X 8 X 3.

With the 2-Blade, 13 X 10, the model took off very scale like and no Torque to the Left like the 3-Blade and tracked much better. Once in the Air the increased Airspeed was very noticeable and Low, High Speed passes are a thing of beauty. Certainly I did not have any radar gun but, the airspeed was every bit what the P-Calc estimator said it would be. Next time, I will bring my Garmin Geko 201 GPS to visualize accurate ground speed.

The loops were large but, sort of died on the top if you did not have Full power and understandably since it is producing 5lbs of thrust at Full Throttle on a 7.3lbs model. Rolls and most especially hammer heads were majestic and powerful considering just 343 Watts out on a 7.3lbs model. That’s just 47 Watts / lbs.

Very happy with the Power System and trying out the APC “E” 2-Blade, 13 X 10 propeller.

Okay guys!

As promised, here is the Video showing you all the Half and Full throttle Watt / AMP / Under Load Voltage measurements!

Battery Used: Admiral, 4-Cell, 4,000mAH, 40C Discharge, Lithium Polymer!

Steady State Static @ 2:28.49
HALF THROTTLE:
10.25AMPs / 168 Watts / 16.05 Volts

Steady State Static @ 2:37.92 mark it measured:
FULL THROTTLE:
37.78 AMPs / 583 Watts / 15.45 Volts

Okay for Watts per Pound calculations:
583 Watts / 7.3lbs. = 79.86 Watts / lbs.

Imagine this!

Friday the 13th was very good and lucky for everything I wanted to do with my large Hangar9 F4U-1D Corsair 50 size Electric!

Check out my Garmin Geko 201 final Ground Speed.

Yes, I commanded the model to perform a few loops so, let say average Level Flight was 70-MPH

DECEMBER 14th, 2013

Well guys,

I am glad that I arrived early at my RC Club as some strong winds with lot of rain clouds are moving in for the rest of the weekend.

This Saturday morning I was once again successful in reaching my model's 11th Flight and did so with great results. I really hate it when stuff (Key Chain Video Camera) failed to capture the fantastic "Kiss the Ground" landing after the 11th flight. The wind did help to slow the model some and the wind was right down the center of the runway run.

So, today I have one more On-Board Video of take-off and almost the landing!

Will attempt Flight #12 in the morning as there's going to be almost near perfect conditions!

I will try to use that Key Chain Camera again and hope it does not stop before my model lands!

Presently looking for a replacement camera with at least 720p resolution.

Super Thursday (12-19-2013) Morning!

Guys!

Just an amazing early morning with 46 Degrees F. (Pretty Cold for us Swap Gators!) and it was just perfect as my Corsair was super steady and it turned like she was on rails, no bumpy look up there, and the landing was rather Hot but, did not want to slow her down too much without head wind.

As promised, here is another On-Board Video using my Key Chain Camera showing my Corsair's 12th Flight. As a matter of fact, I fooled around with it super early this morning and was able to at least get it to display December 20, 2013! I do realize that today's date is the 19th but, I just did not want to mess with it anymore and it was good enough for me.

Weather Conditions look GREAT for Sunday (12-22-2013) morning!

I am heading to the RC Club to accomplish my model's 13th mission over TItusville, Florida.

Sunday will be a Carbon Copy of today's (Saturday) weather conditions and just could not fly today as it was dedicated for Family Shopping!

My buddy will be manning the Video Camera so, lets hope for good Video capture...

Guys!

An incredible Sunday morning! Winds were kicking at 10-MPH and gusting to 12-MPH at a minimum coming from the South-South East and almost down the Runway Run. My Hangar9 F4U-1D .50 size "Electric" performed flawlessly and with very good power considering the gusty conditions.

Mostly flew it between 1/2 -to- 3/4 throttle and it performed every move that I threw at it, as a matter of fact, I flew it like I stole it!!!

The best was for last, I was hoping it was going to be windy as this model can be slowed down very effectively for landing and did so. I was able to get the best Kiss the Ground landing today! Also, I gave just a little DOWN Elevator and the main gear maintained on the runway for the best Roll-Out and had lots of good control with Rudder Input!

Just an amazing Model! I can't get enough!

Guys,

What wired weather we been having here in Central Florida. On Christmas it was 46 degrees F. and very windy. Today it was cool with lots of morning Fog and as soon as the Fog lifted at 0900 hours the Sun beat the crap on us and now it's 82 Degrees F.

The wind came up and then sort of died down around 1000 hours in the morning. I took advantage and got my Corsair up twice for just wonderful flight manners!

The Videos are finally available and this time I located "Placed" the 808 Key Chain Camera in a different location! On the hump underside of each wing half.

14th Flight underneath the Left wing looking towards the Right Retract and 15th Flight underneath the Right wing looking towards the Left retract.

Is anybody having issues with lateral balance on their Corsairs? I built my second one and have to add 2 ounces to the edge of the right wingtip to balance. The first one I built didn't have this issue.

Guys,

I had been flying this super nice discontinued Hangar9 F4U Corsair with the APC 13 X 10 "E" propeller and just 4-Cells, 4000mAH, 30C Lithium Polymers. The model took off at FULL THROTTLE like it was never going to gain any airspeed. So much was my concern that I had to quickly put UP the retracts as soon as it lifted off the ground and then, and only then it finally gain some respectable airspeed and my throttle setting was around 3/4 throttle for good cursing speed. There were some questionable times where I really felt uncomfortable and stopped flying the model.

Fast forward to just one week ago when I finally received my brand new Turnigy 5-Cell, 4000mAH, 30C discharge, Lithium Polymer and finding the Master Airscrew 3-Blade, 13 X 8 X 3 propeller, the results were spectacular! Runway run-UP was with much better speed gain and raise off ground (ROG) was effortlessly and with good power. The model cruises nicely one click above 1/2 (half) throttle and with very good airspeed. The amazing part is between 1/4 and 1/2 throttle the model can be slowed down (main gear UP) like a large park flyer (5 mistakes high!).

In summary, the model is just amazing with this power setup!

A few pictures:
