I'm satisfied with the systems function. Mitch is sending me a faster motor and the newly designed control box. With those installed, this is a wrap. It is on to installing the cockpit parts now. Easy stuff compared to what I have been working on IMO.

Here is something that I would like to incorporate into a future build. The front rails are actually not parallel with the sides. The fuselage tapers, but the full scale canopy can't bend and flex like our model ones do. So the rails were run parallel.

I am going to put the wood grain on this one to make it look angled.

Towards the very end of the video of the inside view canopy mechanism I saw the traveling bar vibrate. Will that become a problem?  If so, I recently took apart a CD drive that worked on the same principle but it had two guide rails instead of one. Two rails would stabilize the traveling bar much better, I think. Not sure if that would be needed, but you never know. Just my thought.  Unbelieveable work, by the way. And the vents you are doing ... just amazing!

Thanks for the post. Yes, I removed the runners I had used on the original set up. I just had not gotten those back on yet. I'm not sure they are needed, but I'm going to use them anyway. I think, with the faster motor, they will be less likely to vibrate, but that remains to be seen. The 300rpm motor should be more like the manual operation look we want.

I need to install some things in the plate under the top hatch, and it will be easier to get to with them off, so they will be installed at a latter time.

Joe Harter from Cal. offered to make us intakes. I'm glad we took him up on it. He is doing an amazing job on them, and appreciates the compliments. He said it was OK to mention him, but I wanted to make sure. His passion for the Corsair is obvious.

We have a sound generator board that is being synchronized with flashing LEDs and the smoke pulse generator. 'Smoke' (not real smoke) will be pumped out the shell discharge chutes, and trail off the wings.

That is cool. I'm sure that someone will do this in a model WWII fighter some day. I have seen it on at least one RC helicopter, in Europe of course.

Our approach is more electronic that mechanical, except for the smoke.

Here is a look at the instrument panel. The bezels are separate and painted gloss black. The panel is flat black. I installed the bezels, then glued the plexi glass on the back of them. Then I glued the instruments to the back of the glass. The screws are from an assortment I got from Micro Fasteners. Not sure what size they are, but the fit the holes perfectly and look pretty good.

I'm still working on the clock and another instrument. I refuse to install a civilian clock in this. I have a picture of an actual military clock, but need to reduce it somehow to the correct size.

I was on a lay-over in a Chicago airport one day, very board, and decided to just watch shoes go by to see if I saw any alike. I didn't see two pairs of identical shoes in over 2 hours, as far as I noticed. Corsair instrument panels are just like this. I have looked at dozens of pictures, and no two panels are the same.

I spent many boring hours in airports when I was a traveling construction manager. No more of that.

I like to print all the intstruments on a single sheet. I find it easier to align the faces and I don't have to worry about rotation of the faces. Also, I draw all the faces in a vector applicatoin so they can be scaled to any size.

Hi Gary, take your drawing or photo of the clock face to a Kinko's or some other print /copy place and reduce/enlarge it on one of their copier's. Determine what the dia. is you need and reduce/enlarge by whatever % you think it needs and then measure it and adjust the % up or down and repeat till you find the right size.
