Here is what I have come up with so far on the canopy drive. A couple control horns I had laying around made a tasty mount for the motor. I have found I need a carrier bearing on the back of the shaft to stabilize it.

That looks great ! The linear movement of that screwdrive looks to be the a great solution for this, a nice straight push pull is whats needed for sure.
Maybe even mount your control rods solidly to the alum. cross bar in case one side gets in a bind ? just a thought. 4-40 wire rods instead of the nyrods might prevent any flexing under a load.

I tried a 4-40 nylon clevise once for a "carrier" ground down and sliced through the center to ride inside the rails.

Have the wing fold peaces back after i did them away for a surface treatment. The surface is now nearly as hard as steel and after the treatment the get seald whith a teflon coating which make them sort of selflubicating.
I did this because the get scratht even by moving them inbetween aech other. Now i hope that that problem is fixt.

Excellent idea!!! They should work very smoothly now. Are you going to use the hydraulic system?

Brian continues work on the wings. He is installing scale hinge covers. Notice he is exposing the hinge bolt, just as the full scale is.

Here are some pictures.

Since whe paid a lot of mony for it atleast i want to give it a try,i also modified the cilinders by putting a real oil seal ring in it and a new 316 steel polisched ram.

It took some time and efort to do this but it take the weak spots out of the system so i hope it will work.

By the way,i already learnt a lot from this tread THANKS FOR THAT .

I understand. Sounds like you know your way around metal work. Good skills and knowledge to have.

We are happy to share our work.

They are part of the Graeme Mears upgrade package for this Corsair. However, Brian has cut and installed them in a more scale fashion, exposing the hinge point as the full scale one do.

Here is a shot of the full scale.

Gary,
maybe I missed it, Is that canopy drive actuator proportionally controlled or overload like the lados?,, how do you control the stop points I guess is my question

It will have the same type control box that all the Down & locked gear have. They are building a special use one just for actuators like this with only one function / output. It will 'see' the load at each end and shut down the motor. Nice thing with this is, should the canopy jam for any reason, it will simple shut down. A re-cycle will send it back the other way. Very simple and reliable.

I will take some more pictures, but I did make some changes since the first trial. The ends were set up for 2-56 not 4-40, so I replaced the Nyrod with 2-56 all thread (still too flexible), so I then slid a carbon fiber rod over that. They DO NOT FLEX anymore. Some wax on the slider makes them smooth and easy to slide.

Tonight I'll make the carrier bearing for the jack screw, and go back to work mounting the canopy to the system. I've come up with what I think is a better and lighter way to do that without the brass I was going to use.

For a list of everything that Graeme includes in his scale package, please refer back to page 34, post #840 in my thread. It is not cheap, but you get a lot of parts, and in our opinion, top quality scale detail parts for a quality top notch Corsair.[8D]

I got ya,
But the way you have it set up, it looks like you could just put a jamb nut on either side of your coupler there and that would determine your stop points too.

Can't wait to see it in person,, Carry on

Just found out the control box is shipping Monday. I'll also be receiving a a carrier bearing for the end of the jack screw, and we are going from a 600 to a 900 RPM motor. / gearbox. Easily changed out.

As it is, the speed is realistic for a canopy that would be cranked, but a little slow for a free-tracking one. The 900 will fix that, and it is nice to know that if one needs the cracked type action, the 600 is the way to go.

Main gear doors are ready for interior paint (white). I covered them with aluminum, and added the rivet detail.

Thanks Scott. Brian did a great job on this tedious job.

BTW, we got the disk. Thank you very much. We have not opened it yet. Need to upgrade something I guess.
