Prekin,

You are correct, a search will show some MkIX's with the pointed tail. This is the version I have chosen to do myself, as I wanted to save weight by not having a retractable tailwheel. Best of both worlds if you ask me...

Thank you Steve, I have same opinion about the invasion stripes. But I like them only on the on the bottom side.

Casey, here is other picture of the Mk IX with the fixed tailwheel.

That is a good looking paint scheme, the red trim really makes it stand out.

Well , I have been following this thread now and since I have several Spitfires and have had many before, I think it is about time to join the Brotherhood.
I have a Comp arf Spitfire now, and just arrainged to pick up another Yellow Spit in the near future.
Here are some pics of some of my previous Spitfires.
Is it possible to request a Brotherhood number? I wouldn't mind a nice round number like 200 if it is not claimed yet?
The prototype Spit is not mine.
I couldn't find any pics of my other Spitfires.
The wide white stripes and the white spinner stand out more than invasion stripes.

Thanks for the info. I know that the paints that Lowe's and Home Deport sell do stand up to the weather, but, like you said, they will not stand up to the fuel we are using. I was in my local hobby shop yesterday and I was talking to the owner and I ask why he don't stock airplane paints supplies?? The answer was there is not a high demand for airplane paint, not like back in the days. I look at him and said, there are people who still like to build and paint their model. But the bottom line is to make money and you don't want to stock things that don't sell fast!! He also said that in the 5 years that he open the shop, he told me you can count on one hand the number of people coming in to buy paint, but covering he can not keep in-stock!!!
Thanks, again for the info and I will wait for the info on your test!!!

BTW: Happy Easter to the Brotherhood!!!
I just checked and the test showed good results. The Monokote clear spray covered well, the flat laytex kept its color and the decal I had on the surface was sealed nicely.

Tomorrow evening I will drip some glow fuel on it to complete the test.

Hi jaoa68,
looks real good. Man is she big! Usually it's not that visible when the plane is on the ground,
but with you holding it up, one can see the scale of it all.
Judging by the amount of snow you got left, it won't be for a while until you can get her out on the field. (bummer)
At least I know that I am not alone with the white stuff we still have. It's going to take 2-3 weeks for sure until the flying field is
sort of clear for take off over here.
My H9 Spitfire is ready and charged up for the maiden. I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to this.

Andreas
Happy building & flying.

Thanks Andreas,

Summer is coming fast and last two weeks let about 1/2 meter snow away. I hope that next two weeks and grass start comes to green. I think you live same level than I. In may will be so warm that I like to go field. So I have time to make end of details before it.

Evening for you and coffee break at work for me. LOL.

Hi Jaoa68;
Your Spit is looking very good!! I know you will be happy when all the snow is gone so you can maiden her. Can not wait to hear your flight report!!!

Hi Andreas,
I know you are ready to maiden your bird when all the snow is gone.
We had some very good weather this past weekend so the work on my Spit's build was nix. Put some time on three of my war birds. The P-51, P-40 and the AT6-Texan!!!
I hope the weather break soon for Jaoa68 and your self, so I can hear some good flight reports!!

Thanks for the info. I will have to get some Monokote clear coat to help seal the decals on my TF P-40 and P-51!!! They have start to come loose. Please let me know how your nitro test go!!

Hi Old Erkki,
I love it. Got to get me some for my Spit.
That is so cool.
Oh, I forgot to mention mittens, snow shoes and a huge plow to
plow the road to access our field.

Hi Prekin,

There is one other consideration regarding the choice between the original small rounded tail or the larger 'spikey' eliptical tail. The tails got bigger on the real deal as engine power increased. The Merlin II of the Mk I and II produced 1,035hp whereas the Merlin 61 of the Mk IX knocked out about 60% more at 1,665hp when they 'pulled the plug' for emergency boost.
This was doneas acounter to the extra torque being produced and especially to control the swing when the tail came off the ground.

Many Spitfire RCmodels Isee with the early rounded tails appear tohave tails that are somewhat over-sized. I presume the model designers have done this to increase rudder authority. The eliptical tail will give more authority without compromising the scale appearance.

Regards,
Hooton Park.

Thanks for the advice Hooton Park, IĀ“ve never read anythink about this problem which you described.
During every take- off I have problem with big torque maybe the pointed rudder would be hlepful for me.

Probably IĀ“ve already decided for the pointed rudder and the paint scheme. I know, someone could say: "why are you dealing the paint-scheme, it is the last thing!" but it is my habit to have chosen the paint scheme before the building.
So I would like to make a Spitfire from 312nd Czechoslovak Squadron. DU-L
With this Spitfire flew F/O Ladislav Svetlik.
On the 23rd March 1944, during the action RAMROD 678- MarauderĀ“s escort he shot down the enemy FW-190-A6, pilot Georg Kiefner bailed out. It was the first aerial victory of the all Czechoslovak Squadrons on the Spitfire Mk IX.
Other reason is: He was born in Pilsen, this city is home of the best Czech beer
Here is the paint scheme.

I see you have similar idea. I would like to use ROTO 35,NGH 35, ZDZ 40 or MVVS 40. If I would have a 4blades propeller, the better one will be ZDZ 40 or MVV 40. I saw it with the MVVS 26, but guy said, that the power of engine and thrust of the propeller is not enough. So he will use MVVS 30 or 35.
