Well Brothers,
The cloth has been laid and I am not very happy the way it came out![&o] The wings came out okay, but the fuse is a mess. You know when a rain drop hit a window pane and run down, that is the way the fuse look in some spots. I try to remove as must of the resin with a old bank card, but after 24 hours curing, I saw what I call rain drops!! I know if I do any sanding, I will go through the cloth. Oh well, live and learn. I put it up to I have not done any glass work in over 10 years, but some how I will make this work!!! Stay tune for more up dates!!!

Sonny,

Don't worry to much about sanding through the cloth in spots. No failure will occur. A little filler and light sanding and it will like an in service skin panel with all of the rash aquired during operation.

I always say at 50 feet away 5 feet off of the ground and 60 miles an hour you can't see it anyhow

Hi Sonny,
sould be ok from what I saw in the pictures.
I like your comment.
It's just like flying a sortie with the brothers.....

"We have come to far to turn back now!"

Let's finish this assignment and get back to base. Yes!!

I think once it's sanded and painted, it very likely will not show too much at all.

Keep the updates coming.

Andreas

Hi dcwwcp,
very nice build and getting away from the norm of kits and arfs.
That's model building from scratch.
Very gratifiying when you are done and can truly call it your own.
I have been following some videos from Europe
"The Model Builders" that have used this foam cutting to build
their wing cores. Very interesting.
It's not really a how to, but rather what's out there and can be done.
Not only airplanes, but anything that has to do with model building big style.
Too bad that it's in German, but I like watching it anyway.

If you are interested, here is a youtube linke to the 1st episode. (there are lots)

Happy building & flying.

Hey Steve,
turn of(f) the sound? Hope that was a typo.
I had my head set on.... full tilt sound. Awesome.
Loved the little girl talking in German at about 1:00 to 1:03. All I caught was "Abstuerzen" (crashing).
Couldn't make out the rest. But the engine sound throughout the flight........pure excitement and Spitfire heaven.

Thanks for the link.

Andreas

A rude awakening this morning. The electric retracts are not going to work. Once the hole is cut out for the motor (where the air cylinder typically is located) and the slot for the strut there would be nothing left of the outer rib that the retract mounts to. That would a wing failure in the making. So,,,,, have to take a step back and order the Robart gear. The Robart cylinder can be set up so that the cylinder can be moved 180 degrees there fore not weakening the wing structure. I have studied changing the electric retract in the same manner but it doesn't appear possilbe. You fella's that have built the Top Flite Spitfire, if am missing something, please clue me in.

Update on the caps. Attached is a pdf file to give you an idea of what they will look like. The Spitfire logo will be white stitching with the blue on the cap showing as it should, the attached is just a quick photo shop file. Should have pricing in the next day or two.

Hey Steve,
I love the cap!!! Just let me know when they are ready and the price, and I will pay you through Pay Pal, if that's okay with you!!
As for the retracts, I went with the Robart gear and they drop right in with no problem!! I hope one of the brothers you have built this bird use "E" retract and help you out. As for me, the cloth, sanding and resin work are done!! Now come the prime and painting. I am hoping to get one of my club member who son has a car painting shop to see if he would like to paint my spitfire!!
Stay tune!!!

Thanks Sonny. Paypal will be fine.
Good to hear your Spitfire is ready for primer and paint. Will be looking forward to some updated pictures.
I bit the bullet this morning and ordered the Robart retracts.

Hey Fella's. Caps are going to be $20 each shipped if i can fit them into a Small Flat Rate box. $14 for the cap, $6 for shipping. If you want more than one, we can adjust the price for the shipping accordingly. Outside the lower 48 will be actual shipping cost. Not doing this to make a profit, just need to cover the cost.
Once the order is placed it will take one to two weeks before they arrive. Then we will ship to you asap.
Are all of you ok with that?
