Hi N8
You are right... I should have posted a picture of it mounted right in the beginning.
This is not my FW but its my fan.

I will make some pictures tonight of the way it is bolted to the backplate and I will do a video of the fan running on a FG-84 this week.

Truth be told, I swapped my FW-190 for a hangar9 60cc corsair a couple of weeks ago so I cant take any more pictures. I do however still have Spinner, Backplate and the Saito 84 here so I can show you how it runs with and without the fan.

Rgds,
Philipp

Good evening,

as promised, the pictures of how to moount the fan. It has 8 3mm holes. All you need to do is drill the Backplate using the Fan as a jig. countersink the holes on the backplate and use countersunk screws and locknuts to attach the fan. Dont forget to use a washer on the inside.

I bolted it to my FG-84 today and ran it. I know the Hamilton threeblade is not a good match for a FW-190 Fan...

I tached the engine and it does 6.000 rpm with the 23x12 threeblade without and 5.800 rpm with the fan.

Thank you reverend that is awesome .....does the fan center itself on the backplate or is it up to the modeler to make the measurements ? And which Biela 3 blade is that you are using? It looks huge!!
thanks again for all the info

Hi Jimmy,

the Fan is self centering. Theres a lip on the top side that aligns the backplate.

Thats a 23x10 Biela prop. The engine ist going into a H9 Corsair.

@everybody that ordered a fan. I am slightly behind on orders. I am printing them on our high end "Ultimaker 2" Printer as it has the best quality. Unfortunatly the Ultimakers heatbed decided on friday night it does not want to be a heatbed anymore. I am collecting the new one tomorrow. The ones that have been shipped have recieved a PM.

Philipp

Reverend; would it work to drill and tap thread some threaded mounting holes in the back-plate instead of using nuts & bolt through method?

Thanks

Hi Dasintex,

yes, that will definitely work. I just know from experience, that many modelers do not want to go through the bother of tapping. Thats why I showed the other solution.
Just dont Forget that loctite and use a washer on the inside.

Philipp;

Thanks for the reply, that's what I will do, drill and tap; washer, lock washer and locktite, looking forward to receiving the FAN, you did get my order for one, right?\

I've been working on a design for the cooling fan for a while. Still doing some tweaks but this is what I have. Also design some scale guns and 3D printed it out. The Fan unit now is PLA but the final one will be carbon fiber infused Nylon.

Hey, that looks great!

aybe one word of advice if I may. We did a lot of testing and printed about 30 Fans till we got it right... Our first couple looked similar to yours but we needed to shrink the size of the Fins or they really eat up a lot of RPM. I think we now have the best compromise between scale, cooling and efficiency on ours. Have you done any testruns?

I also like the 131. Just for thought, only the muzzle and the ring behind it actually protruded the cowl.

Have not done any testing to the fan yet. just a lot of CAD work and printed 2. still need to shrink down to fit within the cowl. Are you printing 100% infill? I was doing mine at 30%. Cool ill look at the guns haven't glued them in yet.

Hi,
yes, I am printing with 100% infill. The Material I am using is BDP because I do not want to take any chances with heat. BDP takes 120°C without problems.

We print them slowly so they get a really tough bond. One fan prints 14 hours.

Received my fan from Reverend today, excellent service, nine days from order to delivery. It fits the back plate perfectly, looks great and is well engineered. I will drill and tap the back plate for attachment using the 8 attachment holes in the fan face as the template for drilling the holes in the back plate.

Hey ForcesR,
thanks for letting me know and I am glad you like it! The others should be getting there in the next couple of days. US mail usually takes a couple of days longer than the Canadian mail.

thanks for the feedback and Rgds,
