I think you need to give more delay between your gear and the main door. The door may be closed before the gear reached half way.
Hi HiCurrent.
Thank you for the reply.
Yes using the electric retracts. Ample delay between the gear and main doors. Like I said, the work perfectly on the ground . My only explanation is the force of the wind coursing a amp spike shutting the one gear down?
My friend got the same problem with his TOPRC Galeb jet also using the TOPRC electric retracts,
Retracts working perfectly on the ground but not when flying. He even took his grear doors of but made no difference.

Good luck with the maiden,I'll be looking for your impression of the retracts. I am also almost done with my mustang , need to break in the engine and check the c.g .
If someone need some help with programming the retract controller I wrote some words (and pictures ) about it.

The 85 class like either the Biela 23x10-4 or Zinger 24x8-14-4 both spin decent RPM's 60-6800
Do you still have the Ziroli, my plans got destroyed and am looking for templates for landing gear doors

Default p51 top rc model

Hello,

I am thinking of acquiring this model after reading and studying your contributions that I appreciate,
Among the many questions that I would like to ask you, the first is to know if someone can tell me if the toprc landing gear legs that this kit can bring, they can adapt some Robart 5 1/2 "wheels, I you are concerned to know if the robart wheel axle has the same diameter as the axle that comes with the top rc legs,

Sorry for my English is not very good, I will try to make myself understood with the help of Google.

Thank you.
Pedro

If you are having cooling problems maybe an exit ramp like I installed will help. I went with Sierra Giant retracts and have been very happy with them.

I use this
https://www.ebay.com/itm/2PCS-Alumin...DCcZfLyDlCOwWQ
works better than an open hole and looks better too.

Hi Guys.
Are you using the stock method of drilling a hole in the CF Tubes to hold the stab on? Does the stab have hardwood where the screw passes through? Is there a better way?
Thanks,

CG 170mm back from LE of wing at root
Elevator 30mm
Rudder 40mm
Aileron 30mm
Flap 40mm

Just maiden the p51 today. I have no problem with the electric gears. One of the gear is much slower than the other but it went up fine.

Sorry, I forgot about my camera. I even forgotten to take the picture with my phone.
The plane flew great just like any the mustang should be (the easiest warbird to fly). CG was perfect for me. Just need 2 clicks down and 2 clicks right trim. Half flaps about 35° with no tendency to pitch change. I didn't use full flaps yet because i had about 8mph head wind. Lands easy and slow.
I use 23x8 prop on the dle55ra. Next time out I'm going to use a 22x10. 55cc and 23x8 flies it ok, not too much fun. I think a 70cc engine will fly this airplane much better, but you will have to cut the cowl too much to expose it. But I'm not going to screw around with it any more.
One problem with at the end of the flight though. The cheap piece of **** canpoy latch's white plastic handle broke off while trying to remove hatch. For a moment there I thought I had no way to remove the wings and shut down the plane. Luckily, my friend's was able to break free the latch from the hatch to release it. The latch just delaminated from the epoxy.
It was 93°C out and I have no overheating issue. I used this vent https://www.ebay.com/itm/2PCS-Alumin...DCcZfLyDlCOwWQ instead.
Yesterday, I was busy helping my buddy with his first jet, the big *** T3 so I completely forgotten about pictures.

Here's a short video of my maiden. The first 30 seconds are at a strange angle but it gets better. I was very happy with the landing!

Does anyone know If the Robart retracts/struts and retractable tailwheel from the 1/5 Top Flite kit will fit without much effort?

I seriously doubt it. If I am not mistaken the Robart gear for the TF Mustang have the landing gear strut mounted forward of the retract unit itself in order to get the gear leg as far forward as possible. I do not think this is a feature of the Top RC Mustang. The tail wheel unit may be a relatively simple swap but I don't think so on the main gear.

Makes sense thank you.
I will contact Sierra for gear, I still prefer air to electrics.

I am sure Robart has something that can be made to work, I just don't think it is the set they make for the TFGS Mustang. Not that there is anything wrong with Sierra gear, they are first rate if they have what you need.

Robart sells a complete gear set for this bird. That is what I bought. The mains are traditional retract units that accept Robostruts. The scale aluminum wheels and tires are gorgeous.

The cockpit in this thing is just awful. I cant even begin to describe how bad it is but I cant live with it. Any of you guys who made those awesome cockpits selling any kits? Anyone know where I can buy a kit for this bird? I am going to look around.

Worse case scenario I will need to find a way to carefully remove it from the frame, disassemble it, sand off all the globs and rivers of glue, do a decent paint job, glue it back in straight, replace the balsa rear deck and boxes with plastic or glass parts and then put some decent instruments in there.

I havn't seen any posts about the hardware with this bird but to me 2mm links seems very light for a plane of this size
