Hobbyzone Fighterbird

Whew! You have a lot of choices! The fighter bird would not be a high one on my list. It may get you flying tommorow (or whenever you get it) but it won't keep you satisfied long. Some Guys in my...

cheap, beginner back yard plane?

The 1st firebird will be cheaper than a 'real' plane but you've expressed a desire to move up. You can't move up from the firebird. Your 2nd plane will cost you that $250-$300 (around $400 here in...

Beginner's Park Flyer

In the park flyer world its tougher, I think, to find a plane that does it all. A good beginner plane is slow and forgiving. That means light and that means not stressed for aerobatics.

Planes...

Goldberg Electra or Great Planes Spectra?

What was your first plane?
I have an Electra and it flies beautifully as a GL. I don't fly it as an electric. If you don't have a highstart or room to use one then it would still make a good...

How high can a Firebird XL go?

Don't know about the Firebird Radio but many of the miniature park flyer type receivers have a limited range. Park flyers are not much fun that high up anyway.
Buzzard, it sounds like you need to...

Park flyers like us.

Sounds like your on the right track Scott. Start your own Park flyer club. There are several people in my area also in the same situation - busy family life, commute, why drive 20min each way to...

Styrofoam Scratch-Built Cub!

Way cool! I love stuff built (for almost free) from what's around like that. Sort of a household, flying version of junkyard wars!
Any chance of a sort of plan or some close up construction...

Best Nimh's for S400 ?

Thank you. There is a thread on Electric flight General about this same thing. Phil indicates that those consumer AA cells might not take soldering very well. I've soldered dry cells no prob and...

F-22 Raptor (Wattage) - NiMH or NiCD ?

Cool, Thank you. I've been thinking AA 600mAh Nicads would be a bit heavy anyway. The GWS site shows the 300C power system ratings for 5,6 and 7 cells (up to 8.4 volts) but not 8. How's it been...

Glider pilot progression?

Hmm. For my Canadian Soaring Assn. Bronze badge a requirement is 2 consecutive landings within 5 Meters. Only took me about an hour to get with a flat bottom airfoil and no flaps or spoilers. ...

Best Nimh's for S400 ?

HobbyPlace. Are those 'off the shelf' consumer type AA rayovac's or an RC plane specific battery. I'm looking for something for my GWS Beaver and would like to try Nimh. Will it put out the power?...

F-22 Raptor (Wattage) - NiMH or NiCD ?

I have a GWS beaver and would like to try NiMH batteries but can't find any 2/3 AA 6cell flat packs. Was going to try soldering up a set of consumer AAs (eveready or duracells) from London Drugs. ...

GWS beaver batteries

I have the Beaver and the 350 Mah pack gives a decent climb and flight time but only after it was cycled a few times. - or perhaps I did not have a full charge on it the first few times. Can't wait...

Mini Max

opps. Forget it. answered my own question. the GWS site shows the power system/prop combo to draw 7.8 amp and the ESC would be the 10 amp unit. Definitly not gonna work :-(

Mini Max

Would those liOn cells work with the GWS Beaver. It has the GW/EPS-300C-CS(370). The voltage seems just at the limit for the motor. The recommended ESC handles up to 2 amps. Would the extra...

Ever want to quit?

Never would I quit because of a crash. Learn from the crash, correct the problem and fly again. Some lessons take more than 1 crash to learn :-). When I first started I learned to fly on my own. ...

Sailplane recommendation

I'll second the Electra. Built one myself. Reviews I've read point to the direct drive motor/prop as a weak point and it should be geared. I've converted mine to strictly Highstart.
The build...

Monokote for hinges?????????

Only time I've had problems with this hinging method is when the control horn is at one extreme end of the surface. This tends to cause a twisting of the surface which imparts a sideways load on the...

Aero Photography CHEAP!!!!

Thanks Gordy.
Only problem so far was wear and drying out on the rubber around the servo wheel. It started slipping and not advancing the wheel. Solution was a drop or two of light oil (or WD40)...

Push Rods

The small dent in the wing will not be a problem unless it's caused a stress crack in the foam that your pic doesn't show. Flex it gently or simulate a flight load by holding it up by the wing tips...
