RE: Need help building the Magpie

Over time, the rubber bands used to hold the wings on will dig into the foam. I added these pieces of ply to rest on the foam to distribute the loads over a greater area. Position them right up...

RE: discus launch gliders ??

The reason for the rudder extending below the boom on a DLG is to withstand the loads it receives during a launch. The plane will leave your hand in a hurry and the side forces are huge. You want...

RE: magpie tweaking

Sorry I've been away so long. I'm just now recovering from SEFF.

If the MP is nosing up under power, you need to angle the motor down more. The Magpie, like any plane, is a series of...

RE: Thrust Angle/Panic

The Panic has a fully symmetrical wing so has to fly at a nose high attitude when going slowly. I could have changed the wing incidence but then the inverted flight would be affected.

RE: Looking for first time aileron parkflyer.

For the record, the Magpies in the videos on my site are flying with a stock EPS350 motor and an 8 cell KAN650 pack. Part of the reason they are climbing so quickly in the video is because I am...

RE: what's a good park flyer for about $250 or less?

Hi Alex,

I am the designer of the Magpie. Sorry for taking so long to respond.

The Magpie was designed to teach people to fly. I initially designed it for my 11 year old son. The...

RE: what to get as a beginners airplane ?

We recently released a new plane that was designed ground up as a first trainer. It is called the Magpie. It assembles quickly, is very stable in the air, and is quite crashworthy. We will be...

RE: Doug gets my $$

OUCH!!! As the connectors to the servo micro connectors are cotter pins, open the pins up so that they can't come out completely.

We'll cover shipping on your new Tantrum. Remind me when you...

Mountain Models Magpie foam trainer released

I just released my latest design, the Magpie. Built around the same construction techniques as the Panic 3D design, the Magpie offers a quick build, excellent stable flight, and very good...

RE: Mountain Models Panic

Hey Dan,

Thanks for the post. I was going to wait till after NEAT before posting about the Panic here because I wanted to make sure I could fill orders.

The Panic was conceived as a plane...

Mountain Models SmoothE change

We decided to change the SmoothE Slow Flyer wing to include ailerons. The original was only rudder/elevator. I flew it last night in 10-15mph winds and was able to set the transmitter on the ground...

RE: Mtn Models "SmoothE" first my impressions

I did some flying with the SF wing today to play with the wind incidence. The wing incidence was originally set for the SP wing with the understanding that it would be flown inverted.

I did...

RE: Help me decide on my next plane - aileron trainer

newman,

I wouldn't go with the MiniFlash as an aileron trainer. The new SmoothE would be a better choice.

RE: Dandy Covering

SolarTrim is, in fact, sticky backed trim covering. It is meant to go over Solite after the Solite is shrunk. I like to take a sheet, fold it in half, then cut out patterns with a sharp xacto. ...

kitfoxkid,

Don't worry about wanting to copy the Tantrum design. I am flattered. Please send me an email and we can work out the details. My email address is on my website.

RE: Tantrum plan question

kitfoxkid,

I am the designer of the Tantrum. I was wondering why I haven't sold any planes to Argentina. Thank you for the answer.

Shipping to Argentina would be $22USD.

It turns...

RE: DANDY SPORT QUESTION??

Do check your CG. The DS is quite stable making inverted flight harder, but the problem should be it wanting to roll out, not maintaining altitude.

RE: best beginner pattern plane

I will propose my Flashback. Here is my logic: to get good, you need to practice. Unless you are lucky and live close to the flying field, it's difficult to get the time to fly. If you have a...

RE: Trade Duskstik Plans

The DuskStik is a laser cut kit and doesn't lend itself well to scratch building. If you want to scratch build a similar plane, I'd use Clark Y airfoil with a 7"-8" chord and a 40"-45" wingspan. ...

Mountain Models Tantrum

Jason,

The video is still in the camera. The, uh, pilot in question did some prety cool things with the Tantrum like rudder touches, etc, all very close to the ground. He even took out an A-10...

Stevens AeroModel CAP 232 (S300)

Matt,

The RV-4 flyes great and should make a great second aileron plane. As with all of Bill's kits, it is very well engineered and should be easy to build. Bill flies with me and I enjoy...

Dandy pics

The covering that comes with the kit is Doculam. The price is right at about $14 for 500' so I can afford to include it with the kit. I prefer Solite most of the tile because it is lighter and...
