RE: Charlie Kellogg's TBM Avenger Build

Yea that's him.
For the servocity stuff I was going to use a metal chain about 6 inches long. The nice thing about using that set up is you do not have to worry about what size sprocket you use as...

RE: Charlie Kellogg's TBM Avenger Build

Chic,
I see you are from VA. If you want to talk with a real master builder look up flydoc. He is in fairfax VA and I think flys at PGRC. His work is not only very good, but fantastic! He has not...

RE: Charlie Kellogg's TBM Avenger Build

Well i had to drop by and see what was going on here after that email.
It has been a long time since I did anything on the TBM, but I'll try to remember.
I just put a 1/4" stick under the rear...

RE: Palmer 132" C-130 Build

Mike,
Balsa spars are just fine. Remember that this is a sheeted wing with sheer webs and a wing tube. The spars in a design like this carry little to no weight and can be made of about anything....

RE: Palmer 132" C-130 Build

I love them too!!! Just have to learn a bit different way of tuning and prop sizes. As for the 13X12 4 blade question, I really could not say as I have never run one. I would think you would need a...

RE: Palmer 132" C-130 Build

Howard Kahn made his B-17 wing removable leaving the inboards on the center and the outboards on the removable section. He has had no troubles with it at all. If your RCVs are shaking after break in,...

RE: Palmer 132" C-130 Build

It is vented. I just use a bottle to catch the overflow. Never been a problem.

RE: Palmer 132" C-130 Build

Looks like Grinder did his the same way I did mine on my B-17. You don't have to tap anything. There is a vent already on the engine. What you do is put a piece of hose on the pump pressure port,...

RE: Remote Glow ?? What am i doing wrong ??

You have done nothing wrong.
You say the plug will not glow. That makes me think you have a plug in the holder and are holding it so you can look at it. There has to be a complete circut for it to...

RE: C-7 Caribou

Here is my old Bou. Same plans, but built back when you could get the glass parts. Had working "clam shell" cargo doors.

RE: Building on glass?

I have used a glass build table for years. It is 4'X8'X1/2" tempered glass. As for gluing parts to the table, I tack them down with thin ca. I build as much of the structer as possible including...

RE: Flite Metal (Ed Clayman) Unresponsiveness

I've used both HVAC and Flitemetal, and the IS a big difference. Flitemetal wins by a longshot. All I ever use HVAC tape for now is to make hatch covers and other surface details that need to be...

RE: B-17 kit or plans?

Dion,
I wasn't comparing the 38 to the 17. The reference was just to say that when you loose an engine on a multi engine plane that things happen fast. My 38s both had semi symetrical wings on...

RE: B-17 kit or plans?

Dion,
I have heard the same thing about the Smith model airfoil, and I think it may be true. I have not really tried to match it to my airfoil files, but it sure has a lot of lift. Most of the...

RE: B-17 kit or plans?

Dion,
The main things I see that get my mind going is that there are way to many parts behind the CG. All those formers and tail parts, even though light, add up to huge amounts of nose weight....

RE: B-17 kit or plans?

If the model has been flown, where are the pics of the completed model and flight pics? Plus what was the all up weight , engines used, and flight reports? You would think he would post that info...

RE: Historical Tail number Identification???

Since you have the Ser# of the plane, contact the national archives in DC. If there are any other photos of that plane they will have them listed and will send you photo copies for free. If you want...

RE: RCV ENGINES

Never ever do this or you will ruin the engine. A drill does not freewheel when the engine is trying to get started like a model airplane starter does. The engine's crankshaft and conn rod are...

RE: aeroplane works kit cutters?

I couldn't agree more. Mace is a great guy and does fantasic work. You can't go wrong with one of his kits.

RE: Need info on retract article...

I remember that article as well. I think it was MAN, but it was so long ago that I don't remember what issue. I think it was about 5 years ago. Maybe an email to MAN could help.

RE: Building board recommendations please

Glass is a poor building surface?????

Sorry, but I'll never use anything but glass. Mine is 4'X8'X1/2" tempered, it is very flat (light tube tested) Plus I can glue parts right to it, mix...

RE: Ziroli Dauntless Bomb Help

Mike,
The spring loaded release looks like a Fourmost unit. Tower used to sell them, not sure if they still do. As for the trapeeze, I think that the servo part is only to raise it after the bomb...

I was on the Top Gun episode of Inside R/C. Right after the first commercial I did the welcome back to Top Gun bit. I guess that was my 4.5 seconds of fame:D I was elbow deep in a B-17 wheel well...

RE: KMP new P-47

I really doubt that the photo is of the ARF or any ARF. The detail is too good for one.

RE: Top Flight P-51 ARF Balancing

I agree with Gary, people that overpower warbirds normally bring them home in a plastic bag. The G-62 seems to be to much engine for a plane of this size and weight by a long margin. Heck I'm using a...
