I'm still considering using a TD .09 when I get around to building mine. Without landing gear or throttle it should come out fairly light and fly just fine IMO. Besides, I've got to put these dormant .09s to use on something, right?

I am planning on using a Magnum 15 engine. I like to use the LGs for landing as presently I am not sure what type of airfield I will flying this plane. So I need to order the fuel tank and the wheels so any pointers will be appreciated.

Thank you

I would like to know how to get a Shark XV kit or plans. I recently bought an OS 25V DF engine on ebay which was complemented with a new MDS 18 and instructions to find a SS XV to put it in. After reading the forum and seeing the pic's I really want one. Please get me started. Thanks. Flyntime

I have a 25vfdf also but I think the stock sharkxv might be too light for that engine, I've asked the same question before.

Here's a couple pics of mine. I had a GP canopy laying around and thought it might look cool. Cowled in the engine and added trigear. Power is a Magnum 15. Auw is 28oz. Flys really good but gets small fast. Good luck with yours!

ccp10, your plane looks really good. I like the color scheme. What size of wheels have you used. Do you hand launch it.What is the flight time with a 2oz tank.

Syed,

I'm using 2" wheels. They look alittle large on the plane but I fly off grass. I get around 5 minutes on 2oz.

CCP - The canopy and cowling look absolutely GREAT! Amazing how such small things make such a big difference.

Andrew,

Thanks for the compliment. It's entirely covered in solarfilm with a yellow monokote pinstripe!

Dumb Question....The material list says 1/4" sq leading edge, or is it 1/4x3/8" to match the LE of the ribs?

smoknrv4,
I had to go back and look at the plans. I used 1/4 x 3/8" on the leading edge.

Thanks, thats what I thought. I went ahead with that and I almost got the wings framed up today.
I'm going with a Magnum 15XLS.

Dihedral question:
If you lay one panel down flat, right side up on the table...what does the gap measure approx. from the table up to the CL of the other wing tip?
I guess its probably not that fussy.
Thanks

Smoknrv4,

I didn't put any dihedral in my wing!

I will do the same, the wing joiner plate has a little angle on the bottom but not much, thats what made me wonder if there was any dihedral at all.

I purchased my Shark back in February but I am just starting the build. This is my first build in a very long time so I want to get it right.

My question is about leading and trailing edges.
Do I shape the LE from 3/8" stock or is there a better way?
For the TE: Are the ailerons cut from the same piece of balsa as the TE or are the two different pieces of balsa?
It looks to me like standard TE stock is designed for flat bottom wings. How are people making the TE and Aileron?
Where can I buy the balsa. My LHS stock is mostly old and warped.

houckj,

The trailing edge is formed from 3/8"sq. stock. These need to be beveled top and bottom to conforme to the ribs. Use a long sanding block and put a piece of masking tape on the ribs to protect them from the sand paper.
The ailerons are made from standard 1/4 x 1" aileron stock. After you slot these for hinges, sand a "V" shape to the front edge. This will eliminate that flat bottom look.
Hope this helps.
