Default Wattage live wire

Hi all

Has anyone out there got a wattage livewire? does it 3D well and the standard motor. Im asking as a 3DX would cost more for me to make (as 6mm depron is expecive to buy, and then theres the P&P or S&H as you guys call it) than the livewire would be to buy.

cheers

I have a LiveWire but did not even try the stock motor combo... I suspect that on 3S 11.1V Li-Poly's perfomance would be good... BUT th emotor life would be short lived.

I have an Astro 010, 14T on her now with a GWS C drive, not the most powerful setup around but adequate.

Over all the model flies very well IMO...

Don't even bother with it. I tried the standard out of the box and it flew like a dog with a case of lead poisoning. I then tried it with Nimh pack and it was marginally better. Took 8 circuits to get enough height to do 1 loop. I have a trophy section on my wall where, when I crash and burn, I cut the tail off and glue it to it. Guess where the tail of the live wire is? Should have been called the burnt fuse.

I would have to agree with Perryb! The stock live wire is a dog. The motor/gear system is hardly suitable for a 12oz. plane let alone 17-19oz.! The plane does have potential and seems that with the right brushless/liIon system, it would be a good 3D. The CrazyMax flies better and will do more but without the realistic looks.

I put a GWS 350c on it and it still flies like a dog!!! Cant afford to go brushless but it weighs way to much not to[:@]! I am thinking about building a 3DX at the moment you can get a sheet of 6mm depron for £5 plus another £5 postage and packaging so i think i am going to get a sheet of that!!

well......im building, and beta testing errols flat flip 3D. after tat i will be building the foamy factory Yak. Lipos..........................well, i think [link=http://www.falcon.uk.com]falcon[/link] do it and so does www.e-flight.co.uk outer wise youll have to go to america to find them. However, the GWS motor will burn out very quick on a 3s1p lipo. look at the range of AXI motors from Puffin and this mount so you can mount it to the standard GWS sick thingy http://www.parkflyermotors.com/secur...asp?itemid=465

Thanks edible been looking a the falcon website, some good stuff on there!! Also looked at the AXI motors! I wish this 3DX is going to be on a real tight budget!! Unfortanatly! At least till i get a part time job lol!

Falcon do a 700mAh Lithium Polymer 2 cell pack for only £11.95! It ways only 36g! I wonder how well it would go with the GWS350c D in a 3DX!! or would i need something bigger?

Ohh actually those AXI brushless motors do look very tempting and for a motor and speed controller for about £90 that aint bad

Might have to convince my dad he wants an all singing and dancing 3DX!!

Good Morning All,

I just picked one of these Livewires up yesterday.. It is going together pretty well. I didnt buy this model with the intent of 3D and I am looking for a few more comments/reviews on how it flies non 3D areobatics? in STOCK trim.... I just want someting (for now) that I can fly in the small field behind my house.... Again, not looking for all out 3D, just something fun to fly... So how about it?... I just have a few 8.4 volt packs so I purchased a slightly smaller prop for it. Is that gonna kill it? Should I just go invest in some 9.6 volt packs?.....

It should do you fine for a bit of fun but as you said not serious 3D!! You want to open the gear up and make sure all the teeth are inline!! On mine wernt and after the first flight it stripped the gears! I replaced it with a GWS 350D! You will also want to make sure that the CG is in the right place as with the lack of power if its to far back it gets a bit hairy, especially when you have to turn quick to avoid the trees in small fields !!

If you want any more info just ask!

oh and be careful with those litle plastic hinges on ruder!! and use good tape on the ailerons!!

Yeah, those little hinges were tossed out as soon as I saw them!... I am hoping to get it finished up this evening... and maybe even fly it if I have enough light left...

I flew the Livewire for the first time last night. I have a 9.6 volt 720 Mah pack and a gws micro flight pack with a wattage 30 amp ESC... It flies ok, but I had to add (so far) 1/2 oz to the nose.. It is still a little tail heavy and it labors a little to get off the ground.. I think I need to squeze some more power out of it... Are you guys using the stock prop?... Would I gain anything by going with a slightly smaller diameter and pitch unit?... At 9.6 volts I think I am maxed out voltage wise right? If I go with a PJS 1000 brushless motor, wont I have to upgrade the ESC?

My Livewire is a blast! For those using the stock motor and gearbox, Hobby People should be including a heavy duty spur gear to replace the old one that stripped too easily. Call them for one if you've got the old gear.
Then toss it in the drawer.
I ended up with a Razor 350 brushless mated to a GWS C gearbox (5.33:1), Castle Creation Phoenix 25 ESC, 3S1200LiPo, and a 11x4.7 GWS prop. Leave the landing gear off, add some carbon to stiffen the fuse. All up weight 14 oz.
Can let go of the plane and torque roll to launch.
The airframe is only so so for abuse, I don't think it will withstand the repeated bashings I give it.
Anyways, all the money is in the electronics, so I'll start building a good light 3DX or some other foamy.

While I know this is now an old thread, I was searching for info in the Livewire as I am about to do some mods. However, I believe that I should pipe up in the defence of the LiveWire!

I have had mine for 2 or 3 years. The first motor/gearbox lasted only a few flight but I re-motored mine with a Hacker B20 with 1:1 gearbox. What a great plane! Takes off in a few feet. Goes vertical instantly and keeps going up on what feels to be 3/4 throttle. Fliew at almost walking speed with flaperons down. Running on a TP 1320 LiPo.

I have a A20 Hacker outrunner and am wondering if that would be more suitable for my Tangent or the Livewire ie is the A20 outrunner or the B20 gearbox best in the (Wattage) Tangent (aerobatic model) or the 3D Livewire?
