Default How to Start?

Hey, i have been interested in these 3D airplanes for a while now, but I dont know which route to take to get started.
I am interested in the Great Planes U CAN DO 3D plane. Is it worth it? http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0161P?&I=TZ4624 is this a good price for what is included?

Also, are most 3D planes the bendy kind of foam if they crash kinda hard. I know the U CAN DO 3D planes wings will bend/fold... do most planes do this?

What do you recommend to start flying 3D...? Any help is appreciated.

I don't care for EPP foam planes(bendy foam), they tend to flex a lot in flight. I like the Depron foam planes like www.3dfoamy.com sells. They fly great and are very damage resistant. Besides CA glue will fix them and have you flying again in minutes if necessary. These planes are so light damage is usually minial. I have cartwheeled mine with no damage at all.

You can also get balsa planes like the mini edge, mini funtana, etc. But, if this is going to be your first airplane you should get a foamy.

I agree, a foamy is the way to go. It’s a great way to get your feet wet in 3D and the cost is small. The foamy’s fly super slow and are tolerant of minor crashes and for the most part, they are easy to repair if drove in hard. I would recommend trying the www.3dfoamy.com as well.

Good luck,
Ken

Try fancyfoam.com, you can buy one with all of the equipment you need, excluding a transmitter, glue and paint for $329. I think they even throw in a spare airframe. I've had their Extra since Nov 2004 and I'm just about ready to retire it. I've flown it at least 100 times and probably have crashed it more than 50 times. With foam safe CA and accelerant, you can make most repairs in about 2 minutes. I learned to hover on my Extra. If I had to do it over again, I'd get their Edge. It's supposed to be easier to learn to hover with it. They fly great. It would be hard to go wrong.
