Rob,
I had the park 400 outrunner in the yak with the E-flight 20 amp ESC and 1320 mah 3S Lipo. It was exactly what they recommended on the box for 3-D and they sure did nail it. That Yak is incredible. You can do anything at a snails pace inches above the ground in total confidence. As far as the ME, I felt the same as you. I wanted a balsa electric park flyer size plane. I figured with the balsa fuse, there would be less flex and the ME would do everything E-flights Yak does only better. I hate going to the field and wondering if its going to be my last flight. Specially with a plane as nice as the ME. I just don't feel confident flying litte ME as it seems to have too many bad habits. I spent a lot of time dialing in all the mixes because the roll coupling was pretty bad and the knife edges were terrible. I think I ended up with 5% rudder to elevator mixing to tune in knife edge flight. Also by the time I got enouph weight in the nose for an acceptable CG, I'm starting to think more power might be in line. I've got over 3 oz. of weight on the front of the firewall. Hmmm. I guess thats why everyone is flying this plane with the geared inrunner. Anyways, I've decided to put my ME on Ebay and RCuniverse. I ordered the yak from my local hobby store earlier today. It's not nearly as nice looking as the edge, but at least I'll enjoy flying it.
Ernie,
As far as a link to the yak just go to Horizon hobby's website and click on the arf's. You'll get the whole low down on the Yak there. If it's good enouph for Quique Somenzini, it's good enouph for me.

Sorry Chris. I'm just being honest about my experience with this plane. There's alot of people who are lov'n this plane. You might love it too. I've been flying 35 - 40% for years and have really been taken by this whole electric foamy thing. I think after buying the ME, I'm beginning to realize theres a big difference between the foamies and a mini balsa like the edge. I love flying the foam planes right up close and was dissapointed when I realized I couldn't fly the Edge this way. I guess foamies are just more too my liking. Hope you enjoy your ME.

Hey guys,
Well, I am sort of raising funds to get my motor and battery pack for the ME. I agree Sean, the foamy's are a ball of fun, no pressure and fly great. We (several friends) have been cutting out foamy's from Blue Corr for about a year or so, we have come up with some fantatic flying planes.... some dogs, but a lot of good ones.
I had a Eflite Ultimate foamy and got rid of it.... shouldn't have, it was a ball to fly. That's another good foamy, but dealing with two wings and getting it set up was a little painful.... after it was dialed in, it was awesome.
I have thought about the Yak.... may have to try one. Thanks for the info.
BTW, I have been flying planes since the 70's.... off and on, and have been flying nitro heli's for about 2 years. I tried a Shogun when they first came out in the electric market, pretty well junk... now it looks like the TRex and the X400 are two very good micro heli's on the market. I think there is one in my future.
I am leaning toward going all small stuff and electric.... tired of nitro, tired of expensive crashes. For instance, I had a botched auto-rotation yesterday on my Hirobo Xspec, total cost of the crash was probably around $150..... and it was a VERY MINOR incident. Little electric's are looking better all the time !

Hi Sean.. ive been flying for a little over 3 months now on and off/i have the e-flite yak and the mini edge as well as parkflyers edge and parkzone typhoon. you have expierence with the small electrics and the big gassers ie 40% planes. my expierence just from seeing 40% planes fly is that there less twitchy and way more forgiving.. even on realflightg3 i can hover at will and move the plane anywhere in hover and do a lot of other 3D stuff very easy with lots of reaction time with the 40% planes and have read TOC pilots use them in competition because they fly so well ? do you think this from flying the two types of planes? not to mention there less affected by wind and easier to see far away. also good call on the yak.. i do stuff really low with it.. its got such a light wingloading you can fly it easily at 10mph or less and nose up and power out if ya get in trouble. ofcourse the edge and other heavier planes are less stable at slower speeds because of there heavier weight but have a lot more speed and are fun to rip around with fast.

For those who asked about the yak54f heres the rcu review http://www.rcuniverse.com/magazine/a...article_id=547 watch the video and youll see how well it flys slow and performs low to the ground... this is a must have messing around plane anytime anywhere thats fun/i'll probally always have one of these planes no matter what else i fly.
#134
Ernie.. check the specs on the rimfire.. as well as kv.. rpm per volt listing/companys are starting to give you an ounce rating on the weights of planes the motor can power/e-flite is doing that on there outrunners and gives you performance rating.. this motor will fly scale model 30 ounce well/but will have good power to fly 3D in a 25 ounce model etc.
#135
looked up rimfire.. its for a 7 to 9 ounce plane/it would probally really lack the power to carry the yak well[
] ive run both 370 inrunner by e-flite and run the 400 outrunner in the yak now/both are good motor combos and have pros and cons over the other.

Hi Ernie,
The spellings are different...
E-flite is a Horizon Hobby brand.
E-flite's official web site is www.e-fliterc.com
Horizon's site is www.horizonhobby.com
The other links you mention are independent companies.
Have Fun,
David

Looking at those links, eflightrc.com...... it is confusing because there is E-flight (Horizon?), Eflightrc.com, and Eflightline. Can anyone clarify if these are all separate?
Thank you!

Get Real,
In response to what you said earler; yes the 40% planes are very stable. But we all start out with trainers and smaller planes. Great planes has a .40 size extra 300 which is very stable at slow speeds. Hangar 9 has all kinds of .40 size planes like the twist, pizzaz, Modeltech's Magic and soeforth. All of these planes are very stable no matter how slow you fly them. Most of them will fly backwards if the winds blows a little heavy. E-flites ME is marketed as a 3D plane so it should be very stable. Thanks.
By the way... thanks for the awesome link on the Yak. After watching that video, I don't think anyone can disagree that the Yak is a real winner. I'm keeping an extra yak in its box in my garage so I don't have to wait for one after a crash. I can't be without my YAK!?&@

I loved my Yaks, I had two of them. But I have to say that the yak is a great flying plane but I like to fly the Mini Edge or the Mini Funtana much more. I would have to say that the Mini Edge is my fav...I just replaced my yak with the new ultimate and the 450 outrunner, I have not flown it yet but will on Sunday, I hope it flies like the yak did.

I was going to buy the Yak the day I bought the Mini Edge. I'm starting to wish that I did now. I think I just may sell the ME now. Anyone want to make an offer I can't refuse for the assembled Mini Edge(Never flown) with 4 s75 servos with the extention wires and Y harness? The only way I would do it is if soebody picks it up local in NJ. I will even meet half way. let's say $140.00 to get me thinking.

Fly it Chris, it will be a nice plane.
I did talk to a guy today at a flyin I went two, he has a little more powerful motor than what I was going to put on my ME in his Funtana. I just didn't look like it had enough "umph" for me..... I think I may go back to my original idea of a HiMax 2025-4200 in my ME instead of the outrunner 2816-0890.... it seems everyday, I rethink what I need to put in it. I gotta make up my mind.
Someone tell me what to do.... hheheheee

Chris,
I'd fly it after all the effort you put in it. Like Rob said you just might like it. If not, you can always sell it after you fly it.
Rob,
No matter what you go with, I'd recommend the 2100 mah Lipo for sure. My flight times are just too short with the 1320. Good luck on your desicion with the motor. Did you get to see the funtana fly? What did you think?

Dizzane,
If you don't mind, keep me posted on how the new ultimate flies. I had one out of the box at my local hobby store and it seems like a real nice plane. It weighs about the same as the yak but has twice as much wing area. I'm thinking it should be a real nice flyer. Thanks buddy.

Matt,
I'm no expert when it comes to the whole electric revolution but if I had to guess I would start with a new esc. Maybe the E-flight 40 amp or the updated 20 amp. However, before you spend the money on a new esc, you might wait until you get a chance to read some more responses.

I had the same thing on my mini funtana with the ESC and the I changed some of the setting on the ESC and it works great....I don't recall what setting it was but it fixed it

Hey matt flyer,
I think I would look to the ESC for the problems. I could be in just the settings. Call Castle Creations, they are very helpful and can tell you in a heartbeat what they thing the problem might be.
-----------------------------------
Hey Sean,
Yep, I saw him fly the Funtana. It flew very scale like. Not a great 3D'er, but did pattern moves very well. This guy and I had a long talk about the built-up balsa planes vs the foamy's. It's two different types of fly'ers, foamy being "wide-open" "wild" 3D vs the Funtana/ME being a more controlled, more scale like 3D. Guess it's all in what you want to do. Basically, when you "smack" a foamy, a little low-temp hot glue and your back flying, with the Funtana and ME, it's re-build time.... just like it's big brothers.
Sean, I would probably buy a Funtana, just to play with. Nice little bird, flew well, just not the 3D'er that I thought it would be. And believe me, this kid flying it could 3D the heck out of it, if it was capable. Don't get me wrong, it 3D'ed some..... just not as well as I would have thought.
