Hello, I have a CHIPMUNK which in my opinion is over powered with a recommended .70 size 4 stroke engine, OS of course , and I am able to fly inverted , vertically , and in a knife edge endlessly. I was wondering if this plane could be set up to hover? and if yes, what prop should i go with to begin practicing the hover manuever ?

It's not likely to have enough tail authority to hover IMO, but maybe. I run the APC 13x6 on my Saito 72 to get my DPM Ultimate 40 to hover at a bit over half throttle. The 14x4 seems to be a bit too much prop to spool up quickly.
You may also want to move the CG aft a bit to increase tail authority.

Just set your throws on the ele/rudder to get as much as possible. I have seen trainers hover as well as a 30% Citabria. Just remember, you won't have the authority to get you out of serious trouble, so try to stay ahead of the plane.

Thanks for the info everyone , but novabill's advice is what I wanted to hear. I ran into a guy in a LHS once and he began explaining why he was buying a 13x what ever prop. It turned out he wanted to hover a regular plane , something not 3D, and was instructed to use that prop for his engine. So I will give it a go this week end with the 13x6 prop which I have already for a SU-31 .60 project I have going .

All hovering requires is at least 10% more static thrust than the airplane weighs, and the right balance point in all three axes. Stable vertical hovers require surprisingly little control movement, if you've ever watched a "pro" at work.
How much does the plane weigh? I wouldn't expect that OS .70FS to hold up much more than maybe 6lbs even when propped optimally, and then only barely. You won't be able to pull out but at least you can add hovers and torque rolls to your repertiore.

The plane is about 6 lbs , if it helps any I am able to do inverted loops, ie from the inverted position loop the plane with the canopy always being on the outside of the loop. This meneuver takes alot of power which leaves me to beleive the plane is way over powered.

Hmm, my DPM Ultimate is 5.5lbs and pull out is not that good really. At 6lbs you may want to run 30% in the OS70, but you'll certainly find out.
Novabill is correct, I have infact hovered my daughters trainer, but if it starts to fall out there is little chance of getting it back you just have to fly out. No doubt Chip Hyde could hover it 'til it ran out of fuel, but I'm not that good or even close.
I plan to drop 1/2 a lb or more from my Ulty to improve 3D performance. The 3 standard size servos will be replaced with 2 minis and 1 micro on the throttle. The nose cone is going to be ditched, the aluminum LG replaced with CF, reduce wheel size to 1.5" light weight wheels, replace the 10oz tank with a 6oz(10oz is almost 20 minutes of flight time) and replace the 600mah nicd pack with a 225mah nimh. You might consider some things to reduce weight where you can, it really helps with 3D flight.
