DIRTNAPER - I'm planning on the same motor, ESC, BP's etc. What prop did you use? How did it Hover and Harrier or did you get time to try that stuff?
Thanks !!

On my cermark I have a e-flite 450 and running the 12x6 APC prop. Motor is little warm to touch after 2 15min flights back to back. I think the 12x6 handle better in hover is harrier.

Im using an apc 11x4.7 slow flyer
Yeah it hovers and harriers like a big foamie. Its a blast! It was windy and gusty here today and I "tried" to fly it this morning and almost lost it. It was in a harrier going backwards about 10mph. Vertical punch is awsome it will jsut blast out of a hover. I got a FuntanaX for christmas and I havent touched it since this thing started flying. It may go to the market place. Its just hard to beat the power to weight of a profile they are just so much fun. I already have another in the box as a backup
My only complaint is that is SO delicate, its built like a feather. Flying it is fine but hangar rash could be easily fatal to it.

What Ive noticed so far.
Power wise its perfect. Hovers just under half throttle and the harriers are somewhere around a third or less.
Problems
This thing flown hard is pretty agressive. I hi-throws from hi-speed level flight you can pull into a hover and it will literaly stop right there and sit on its tail. Doing so tore a TP1320 pack loose. The velcro was fine but it pulled the covering off and tore it where it was mounted. That was a close one
If you do harrier landings the gear is kinda week. Touching the tail and chopping power is pretty hard on it. Doing so on pavement didnt seem to be a big deal. The grass just tends to grab it i think. Blipping the throttle just a tiny hair will put it into the air. Im taking the gear off hand launching is cake 1/3 throttle and 45* up and it will float away

Dirtnapper, thanks for that info. I was at the hobby shop today browsing the horizon booklet, and stumbled upon this. Had them order me one, should pick it up next week. Just by looking at the pictures, the thing seemed very light to me.
I was planning on using the e-flite 450 outrunner motor - how do you think it compares, power-wise to your himax? I like extra power - I'm the retard who stuffed a Saito .91 into a UCD .46
This will be my first brushless/lipo electric anything airplane. I'm giving my Hangar 9 Tribute .36 PNP back to this same guy since it's still in the box. I'm done with nitro for aircraft. Fuel is too expensive.
So if anyone wants to throw some battery/charger/esc help my way, I'd love it. But I'm guessing I'll probably just follow the recommendations in the manual for that setup if I can't get much help here.

five o boy,
i just picked it up today from one of my sponsors, give me a day or so and ill let you know what im using. usually i look to keep it about at least an oz under what they say it should weigh. so at least you can kind of get an idea of what to use after i post. also theres a lot of ppl on here who will be able to help just give it a little bit of time for them to respond. the e-flite motors are good, but like always there is better i will probably be using an axi.

picked up mine today. excellent looking plane. agree to early post this bird is light as a feather. That 450 should be a nice power plant for the plane. i will be starting on mine tonight.

I'm flying mine with a 400. Here's a link to another thread:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5111484/tm.htm
My full flight report is there. In a nutshell the 400 has plenty of power, but I'm having issues with cg being aft. I also have a lot of coupling in knife edge. It weighs in at 14.1 oz.

I started on mine early this morning (3:30 am). So for I have the wing and all other surface on. I did a comparison of this plane to my lil banchee. and the cap is little larger. I am going with the 450 setup. I will be playing with the CG once I get the servo, ESC, and motor attached as I modified a little tray under the plane behind the gear to place my battery. I got the ideal from my lil banchee as that is where the battery is place. I post pic once I am done.

I know nothing about motors.
I found a possible deal on a himax 2812. How would it be compared to the 2816? Do either of these motors have more(or less) power than the park 450?
I just don't want to spend 50-70 bucks on a motor, and be disappointed with the power.
What servos should I use? I'm preferential to Hitecs. Not sure how much torque I'll need on a plane this small. FWIW, all my glow stuff had high quality, fast, high torque digital servos. I'm not afraid to spend $ on servos.
I know about the hs-55 but not sure if that will have the torque..
HS 65HB? 31oz@6 volts and .11 sec. Too big or not enough?

Fiveboy I have alway been a E-flite guy on the motors. Don't know much about himax and their power number. But I do know the 450 it the right power plant for this plane. (I'm big on lot of power) I know for the review their used e-flites 75. I am not a big fan of this servos as they have not worked will for me in the past. I went through 4 of them in 2 months time. I do like the hitec 55. That is what I am putting on this plane. I think the Hitec 65's will be added weight that is not needed and this plane does not require that much torque on the surface.
Let us know what you find out regarding the himax motor.

I have the Eflite motor as well. The wife bought it with the plane for christmas (late present I was on the waiting list) just bought was listed on the box. I think the himax has a little more but it cost more too. It really doesnt matter its so over powered anyway that its no big deal. The plane is like a feather it honestly doesnt take much. It would have 3d perfomance on way less plus you could take the gear off and harrier land it while chopping the throttle IF you wanted to prove point.
Really it will fly like big foamie and will have plenty of power with just about any motor in the range. Im flying with the HS56's and they are fine with it, At hi-speed and full throw they begin to fade on the ailerons. I have my throws set to max available though.

OK, so I'm thinking I should go HS65HB then. .02 ounce weight and .01 speed penalies, 14oz more torque, and the dimensions are the same.
I'm gonna just go with the park 450.
Next question, 3C 910-1320 lipo is what is recommended. The higher the mAh rating, the more duration, correct? I realize there is a weight penalty with the larger ones.
Only other thing I'm wondering is what reciever to get. I need to get a good radio system again, I sold my 9CAP last year and I think I'm going to pick another one up. But I'm thinking the rx that it comes with is way too big and heavy for this plane.

I love the Thunder Power 1320 for the cap. They are fairly cheep and have a big punch. Plus since your always 1/2 throttle or under they will last for a while.
I use an FMA reciever they are tiny up to 8ch for 39 bucks plus crystal. I use two of them on a 35% gas plane and never have had an issue. Plus I fly on CH13 and there is never anyone on 13 (its bad luck)
Iv your buying a whole new radio, check out the spectrum
Fiveoboy: Is that your car? I race a Grand national in the 10.5 tire class, true street.

I was thinking about the Spektrum. I will have to look into it more, I guess I'm not sure what the street price is. How is the adjustability? I loved the flexibility of the 9C and the ability to pretty much make the servos do whatever I wanted.
Well that was my car, sold it a couple months ago. Years ago I ran it in NMRA Real Street class. Went 10.30s on the spray.

Well picked it up today. Park 450, TP1320, APC slowflyer prop(can't remember the size, it's the one recommended in the manual). Got the 25 amp eflite pro speed control with the heat sink on it. I'm not sure I'm going to use it. It's HEAVY(1.2 ounces). A CC pheonix 25 is half the weight. Servos should be here tomorrow... Still have to get a radio system
I'm impressed by the overall light weight of the structure. Build quality looks half-decent for an ARF. I guess they HAVE to make it decent with all the see-through covering, lol. Sure does look somewhat fragile though, but I guess it's a tradeoff for the light weight.
My cam battery went dead. Pics tomorrow, hehe

I myself did a little work on the plane today. I got all the servos in and only thing that is left for me to do is put on the motor. Traget date for take off is this weekend.
