Default You'r right about the C.G.

You could still use the .52 FS with the servos in the tail, you can keep the C.G. back, with out adding weight. Really, it's still a floater, with the .52 FS, with all the wing it has.

I agree with Ian. I set one up with an OS 46FX and it flew fine, but had to add some weight to the tail. All up weight was 4lb. I sold it and the 2nd owner down the track put a Supertigre .45 in it. It didn't fly as well as you really noticed the extra weight. Same plane sold again and this time the guy put an OS 40LA in it running 5% nitro. No weight in the tail and overall weight now under 4 lbs. It flys the best with this combination, pulls out of a hover just, but is also easier to hover. With some more nitro this could be improved.

I know that with the .40 La and the way I set up everything it's still tail heavy. I've added weight to the prop bolt, but it's not enough, gonna have to add more up front.
My servo's are where they are suposed to be.
Thinking of putting a .46 FX on it to balance.

You keep saying go lighter, k, gotcha. But if I've gotta add weight, why not make it useful. I'm so tail heavy it's scary to fly and that's with the 40 on it.

Keep the magic as light as possible. I can't imagine that a TT .36 would not be enough power for this plane. I have a TT .46 on mine and had to add several ounces of weight to the tail. The plane is affected by weight because after a couple of repairs it totally lost some of the slow speed characteristics it had in the begining.

I think a TT .36 with a Mouse Can Pipe would be the perfect choice to power a Magic.

Don't discount the effectiveness of a MCP. I can spin a 12.25x3.75 at over 13000 rpm using just 10% nitro with my TT 46 & mouse can pipe.

I need more engine though. I pulled the baffle out of the muffler, that should give me more. It would hover, but that was full power and low fuel.

m gramling what engine do you have on yours and how is the pull out of a hover. I have an old and worn os 35 fp on 15% nitro with an 11x3 prop and it just dont got the balls to pull out verticle but it will hover it at full throttle. im thinking of getting a tt 36 or a tt42 what do you guys think.

The OS .52 Surpass is just over 1 ounce heavier than the 46FX. I'll be swinging a 12-5, hope to maiden fly it tomorrow...............

edible_engine hit the nail on the head on page 2! You really want a light 36ish size engine to keep the whole thing from weighing too much. All this talk of 46s is barking mad! If you put a West 36 in (7.5 lbs thrust with a 11x3) power to weight is simply not an issue!

Exactly!!
I have no idea why people continue to miss the point. The best way to make an aerobatic plane perform better is to be light. This is especially true with 3d and funfly.

If the plane has more power than weight then why add a larger heavier engine?

If it needs a little more thrust then try a different prop or add more nitro to your fuel.

If you need to cut down on weight then buy lightweight servos and reciever. I saved over 4 oz with lighter high performance servos, reciever, and a 6v NIMH battery.

Light weight + tons of thrust = crazy mad flyin

I also don't know why plane manufactures don't get the point either!!!!
A 40 sized cap or extra should never be over 5lb and a couple ounces, but i look around and what do i see but all knids of flying bricks!!
