Default How do you tweak in an Ultimate for 3D?

I have just finished a 62-inch Ultimate, scratch built, my own design, I used a little CG Ultimate and a little Ohio Ultimate design.

Just took my first test flight and the Ultimate flew great. Very light on the controls and good basic aerobatics capabilities.
Since I am new to the Ultimate my question is how do you tweak it in? Did I mention that I am also new to 3D?

How do I know when the CG is about right, what is the test?
How do I know if the motor is properly off set? In mono wing airplanes I know what to look for is the Ultimate the same?
Do I set high rates at all I can get or do I look for something when I fly?

I think I have an airplane that will be good 3D and I want to make sure I do it right.

Thanks for any help.

different strokes 4 diff.... u know the rest...

I like a very natural CG that the plane will fly hands off or very close to it for inverted flight. there are many charts on trimming that will give you all the ins and outs.

I like a hands off vertical line if the plane pulls l/R I will shift the motor to adjust the thrust. I do all my 3d work with 35-45 degrees of elevator and rudder throw I usually only fly one rate on ailerons and that's usually 25 degrees measure with the central hobbies meter.

motor and prop will come into play also whats your set up to include servos....????

practing up highn

ps i am working on a ultimate right now 70WS 77 3/4 lenght pics can be seen under project at the below address:

krayzc;
I like that Godfrey Ultimate. You have enough pictures there for me to start a new project.

I am flying mine with a Moki 180, using a Bambula 18/8 prop. I could switch to a Moki 210 but a broken in 180 has more power than a new 210, at least thats my experience.

I have 4 servos in the wings and two for the elevator set up in tail section, Pull-Pull on the rudder.

The Ultimate is set up just a little nose heavy for now, I plan to approach the CG with caution.

Otherwise I will just find neutral point for all flying.

thanks for the tips

You need big throws. an oversized engine and a fine pich prop.

Ive wrote this on anouter forum someware ill copy it into here. It was areply to a guys question:

I dont no of any manual.

but.......... for 3d you need at least 50 degrees on elv., not so much on the ail. and as much as pos on the rudder.

I dont fly with rates, i fly with a high amount of expo so small stick movments make small deflections and big stick movments make big movments!

I have a flip 3D on futaba radio (reverce expo for jr, + 30 on JR is the same as -30 on futaba) and this is my setup:

Ail. 100%atv
100% rates hi/lo
-70%expo hi/lo

Elv: 100%atv
100%rates hi/lo
-100% expo hi/lo

Rudd: 100%atv
100%rates
-100%expo HUGE rudder is mega sensitive

Elv-flap mix: 100%

Airbrakes: Elv: 0%
flaps: up 80%

Bet beware. ive been flyin 3D for a while now. DO NOT fly with the throttle wide open. if you do, say bye bye to the wings!!! and stick to the instruktions for throws. DO NOT ventre over this for the start. you WILL regrett it. the os should be fine. if not buy a YS 63, West 50T1 or a satio 71.

Hope this is some help to you

Ian
