Absolutely.

Keep it as light as you can, whack it together in a couple of days and have fun!

So would the 65 AX in the smaller model be an adequate match.

As requested... any questions?

I am going to swap the tank out for one half the size. The DLE-20 sips fuel like you wouldn't believe. On Monday I got a 32 minute flight for half a tank of gas.

Goose,

Thanks for the photos!

What's the red material around the canister?

Where'd ya get that?

Aha! The secret ingredient... well spotted

Its silicone rubber, good they say to 260 Deg C. The canister runs really hot!

My buddy Scott suggested it as he had a can in his giant Extra that was burning the surrounding wood even with an air gap.

I got it at a kitchen specialty store where it's sold as cookie sheet

$10 for a 600mm x 300mm (24" x 12") sheet. (@ A1)

Works like a charm.

Wow.....$10 for a 24' x 12' chunk!!!

Best I found online is here ($11.86 for a 12-INCH x 16-INCH piece);

some more planning. What size are the servos ( assuming both size models use the same size servos) e.g standard, mini. I use a DX8 so wondering whether to plash out on digitals or not. Metal gears seem to be the fashion these days too.

Mine are probably overkill as I used all Hitec HS5625MG's from my 1/4 scale Ultimate.

The throttle servo is the recommended size (tiny!) and I will post the exact model number tonight.

Cheers

Brettis,

On the larger .90 AW ProX260, I'm using;

Aileron: HS-5645MG
Rudder/& Elevator: HS-5625MG
Throttle: HS-65MG
{all meta geared}

Nice one A1...

My throttle is an HS65S plastic gear servo and I chose that because a) it fits in the hole and b) because I have lost two metal gear servos in gas planes possibly due to vibration.

Its a theory and so far its all good *touching wood*

Cheers

Goose,

At the end of your canister is a silver reflective material.  It kinda looks like the reflective tape you would put around duct work on your furnace or hot water tank.   Am I correct and if not, what is it?

thanks.</p>

Hi Litterbug...

Well spotted. As I mentioned the canister runs very hot and I was worried about melting the covering on the fuselage, so yes... what you see is a nice big rectangle of Flite Metal which is simply aluminium tape to act as a heat shield.

Seems to work ok.

Cheers

My Dave Brown spinner turned up last week and strangely enough the nut for it today.

It's quite heavy (I didn't order the lightened backplate model) at 123g but it did allow me to remove all the nose weight I added.

Now I have added 17g of tail weight and it is spot on the the manufacturers recommendations.

So I guess I start trimming all over again!

Cheers

I thought that stuff looked familiar.  I've used it to help seal any small gaps in my ductwork so that my furnace is a little more efficient.  I am getting my other odd projects finished up, so soon i will be able to get mine outta the box and give it a go.  I have looked in the box and am pleasently surprised at how well it is package (BUBBLE WRAPPED).  This will be my first aeroworks plane and probably not my last.

Flite Metal is the expensive version of aluminium duct tape! but any should work.

That's what I am covering my next project in... oops! [sm=confused_smile.gif]

I am very biased on AW aircraft but only through experience... they are just awesome to work on.

I'm sure you won't regret it.

Cheers

Voila!
Much better looking!
I was worried for you.....with the former plastic spinner on a gas eng.[]

Btw; AW finally admitted that they achieved their stated CG by using a spinner of 4 ounces.....plus wheel pants.

Goose,

Ya might consider upgrading your throttle linkage.
Those quick connects sometimes vibrate off!

.
Note the tiny flat washers also.

Hey A1...

I haven't had any issues with the setup to date *touching wood * but thanks for the head's up.

Hello V6goose, great build thread I just found it. I have this same plane built with a DLE-20. I have been flying the plane for 2 month now and I’m enjoying it very much. It came out tail heavy so I added a heavy spinner and about 4 oz of weight on the nose to get it to CG correctly. If I had known it was going to come out tail heavy I would of moved the engine forward on the fuse.

My biggest complaint is the short landing gear. I’m either going to make some new gear from 6061 aluminum or I’m thinking about buying the Krazy Legs from OMP. I might even call OMP and see if they sell replacement landing gear for their 67” Fusion and buy that and put it on this plane. OMP seems to be using a taller landing gear on their plane. Either way i need to get some taller gear. I fly at a grass field and the tips of the prop are green from the grass.
