Just starting to practice inverted harriers. Though the plane is stable in this maneuver, the inverted harrier takes some getting used to and are more difficult than I thought. The difficulty comes from the fact that the stick movements for the rudder and aileron are opposite one another to keep the plane straight, unlike the upright harrier where I am used to juggling both the rudder and aileron in the same directions. I hardly ever see anyone doing inverted harriers. Once I get comfortable with the inverted harrier then, I want to start practicing roller coasters which includes an inverted harrier at the end of its sequence. Anyone else doing these?

Hello Joe!
Very nice but gutsy flying! I almost did a maneuver similar to that, except it was by accident.[sm=tongue.gif] I was practicing an inverted harrier low and got the plane in an inverted spin. It started spinning toward the ground, but I was able to recover about 6 ft off the ground. If you are not careful with the stick movements and throttle, it is easy to put the plane in an inverted spin while doing an inverted harrier. I need to practice more of these, but higher next time until I get a feel for it. I enjoy your site by the way Joe, I've seen some incredible flying on there. How long did it take you go get a feel for inverted harriers?

Yeah... it's easy to get the rudder crossed up in your mind if you're doing combinations of inverted harrier maneuvers... like inverted harrier 3D snapping circles, with each inverted 3D snap ending inverted and then followed by a flat inverted harrier (opposing control surfaces usually) turn, followed by another inverted 3D snap to inverted, and so on. And, also doing my latest past time... of constantly switching roll direction in harrier rolls. But, I really get crossed up on the elevator more than the rudder doing these... because as you change roll direction where you were just pulling... you need to pull again... that can be tough when you're programmed to pull, push. [8D]
I don't know how long it takes for new maneuvers... a few weeks I guess... maybe 3-4 weekends and SIM practice in between to get comfortable with a new maneuver for me. I'm old and don't learn fast. [8D]
For me it is not so much the getting confortable with, but the refining to perfection, that is the crux.

I agree. I can learn a new maneuver easy enough. But refining it to the point that is looks precise and effortless takes a long time. After I get comfortable with the inverted harrier, I'll have to try some of those inverted harrier snaps you described. Sounds very difficult to do well.

Hi Greg!
Yeah... they're pretty cool. I copied them from Quique (I think everything is copied from Quique? lol)... he was doing them with a Laser back in 1997! [X(]

Hi Mike!
Thanks, man! I bet we're all the same... always working hard to try to get planes, then trying to get planes ready to fly, and never having time to fly them and actually improve. Sounds about right? [8D]

Hi Rick!
LOL... I was coming in about 10' (like normal<hint>
... and the runway is not level out there... and the next thing you know I was at the knife edge point and the wing tip was 6" high (as you can clearly see in the video LOL)... was it planned? Can I do it 5 out of 10 times? Uh, yeah, you bet!
I tell ya'... when the crowd starts screaming like that you just want to go crazy for them! It was all I could do to keep from pile driving it into the ground for effect at the end of the 4 minute. [8D]
Tucson Shootout in 2 weeks... flying against Fabio, Shulman, Briggs, Jeff Szueber, maybe Garrett, et al... over 10k to the first place freestyle pilot! Gonna be wild! [sm=thumbup.gif]
