How is this plane with a 91fx or a OS91fs? Does it build light enough for hovering at 50% with these engines? Can anyone tell me their experiences about this plane with regards to building, flying, 3d please?
thanks,

I'm sick of people saying that their 60 inch, 46 size plane doesn't have enough power to climb out with a 91 Surpass. The plane, unless you build really really heavy shouldn't come out at more that 7 pounds. And what kinda prop are you using, an 11 incher? A 7 pound plane will hover with a Saito .72 or OS .70 . If they're spinning a 14 incher. A 13x6 would still hover them probably. An OS 91 spinning a 14x6 at a conservative 9,500 puts out at least 10 pounds of thrust. Can't climb out vertically? That sounds funny.
An OS 91 FX with a 14x6 APC will give you just over a 2:1 with a 7 pound plane. My 6-6.5 Kaos will climb vertically but slowly at half throttle with this combo. I'm thinking of buying one of these Giles 202's and putting a YS 91 up front. That should be another overpowered plane.

Hi,
I have been flying one of this for almost 2 years now using a ST G90 and MA 14x6 and it hardly hovers the plane, but this is because my flying site is over 4000 ft high. This is an excelent aerobatic airplane but only if you stay in the recomended cg range and elevator travel.
A friend of mine had one with a saito .90 4 stroke up front but it wasn't even close to hover using a 14x6 prop.
Planeboy, you are wright about using .90 4 strokes at sea level but up here is a totally diferent story, i'm not really sure why this happens but in fact APC props won't work better than MA props at this altitudes so you can imagine why i'm using such a huge engine for this airplane.
It is very usual to see overpowered airplanes in my flying site, things like Goldbergs Shipmunks using .90 2 stroke engines, Cermark Pits using Saito 1.50, etc.
I have a 4 pounds wasp using an OS 46FX that can hover at 3/4 stick and climbs at full stick but at a slow pace, but when i fly this at 500 feet over sea level it will climb like a rocket. We lost a lot of power due the lower atmospheric pressure and less oxygen at this altitudes.
Good Luck

Funny thing with this Giles is it is only 4" short of the GP extra wingspan and the extra calls for a .90 2 stroke up front or a 1.20 4 stroke. I have both and the extra is a better setup more forgiving plane, but the weight difference is minimal. I have a .91 4 stroke in the Giles with a 13-8 simitar on it and it will hover but barely. I tried a 14-6 and it didn't do as well. granted the engine only has about 5 tanks of fuel through it. I would look at a .91 2stroke or a 1.00-1.20 4 stroke for unlimited verticle for the giles. God knows the cowl is big enough for either.

I have this plane with an OS 91 Surpass up front (at about 4000 ft.). It easily hovers at half throttle, and easily climbs out from that. I completely expected it to be able to hover easily from reading posts in the old rconline forums before I purchased it.
I use a 15x6 prop.

Do you guys think a K&B 65 will pull this plane around. I have came across a Giles pretty cheap and I think I may purchase it. I know the K&B isnt going to let it do 3D but I am just looking for something to pull it around nicely. Thanks

Sure, Any .60 will allow this plane to do almost all manuevers. The plane should come in between 6.5 and 7.5 lbs. At that weight the .65 should be a great motor. Try it and start saving for a .91 4 stroke. That is what makes this baby come to life!!!!

Well I don't know what the altitude is in NY but it's like maybe 200 where I fly. I know a 91 would give it unlimited easily. I just assume everyone's at sea level. But if you're not getting pull with a 14x6 on a 91 the go to a 15x6 or more. You probably know the props are easier to turn up high.
