Default New Extra 330SC 2,33mt by Flight-Model

Hi friends,
maybe some of you have already read some of my reviews on this website, and if you know me you know they are attracted by the novelty beyond a bit 'from the usual brands "top". But what I'm about to introduce I consider it a nice modellone for aerobatics and 3D enthusiasts.
It all started after pensioned my glorious Yak54 RcPilot 2.2 mt: I could not remain without a nice big airplane and in the web I look a video presentation of this Extra 330SC with 2326 wingspan a length 2300mm by Flight Model (www.flight-model.com) chinese company specialized in the design and construction of aircraft. I purchased the model to be tested by the Spanish distributor Tb-Model (http://www.tb-model.com), retailer very helpful and that has to catalog a wide range of both airplanes and accessories but with competitive prices. This model, which is part of a new stock with accessories and materials to the top, Tb-Model provides the ability to get the spare parts quickly, which never hurts ...
We begin with some image

The construction work is slowly...
Install servos in the wing and quote is simpe. As you can see from the picture the terminal of stabilizer is in carbon fiber and in carbon fiber is the internal pipe; these is the same for the wings. This give greater rigidity and robustness in the area of attack with the fuselage. All movement are on uniball and the brackets are doubles and in carbon fiber. Auctions are already suitable ...
In the aileron I mounted two Graupner DES 707 BBMG; in the wings two Savox 1258TG and for rudder I install a Savox 1230SG.

In the afternoon I worked in the new model and I fixed all servos and movements. The servo of the rudder I moved all back and fixing in a base of carbon fiber.
Today arrived the new motor: a splendid Desert Aircraft DA-70 ... The new engine I buy from Nicola Visentin of FlyBestModel (http://www.flybestmodel.com); great availability from response of my question and also great prices : the price of these engine is the lowest you can find on the European market (I tried on many online stores but there is the best!)...

Hi guys
I mounted the engine but I'm waiting the exhaust kit... The model is designed for a single canister (see photo) but I thinks to install 2 into 1 headers with one canister... Fort these solution I have read some discussion but I have not understand if there is a power loose with 2 in 1 solution... I must think about it. I contacted AS Power with which I'll try to find a solution soon.

The bags of Kuza (http://www.kuzamfg.com) are offered in two colors (silver / blue and red / black) and in different sizes for t models from 35cc up to 220cc of engine. Kuza Manufacturing, a Chinese company, has specialized in the design and production of hardware and accessories Rc.
Once I had it in my hand I'm surprise tfor the attention to detail as a strong hinge that allows you to fully open the bag for better access, the thick padding that can absorb small bumps (during transportation...) The Kuta wings bags have a lower price respect competition. The bags Kuza have inside them a partition for separates the two wings in soft foam which protects it. In the front of bags there is a space for storage rudder and elevator. Another special seat is expected to finally put the bayonet wing. Prices range from 35 to 110 Euros depending on the size chosen.

Awaiting the exaust kit for my DA-70 (I will optate for muffler because too complicated install two canister in my Extra that need modify the structure… and after moore advice about the “23 into 1 headers” with problem and loss power that these solution can provide) I continued the construction of the TBModel Extra 330SC 2,3mt (http://www.tb-model.com). And for a good maximodel I decide to installa also a smoke pump for have fun. Certainly I adds a few pounds but the satisfaction is certainly so...
In my recent test I had the opportunity to try some of the most popular devices for smoke, but for my new Extra I decided to install the new pump Secraft (http://www.secraft.net), the "Smoke Pump V3 ", the latest of Korean company, already well known around the world for quality Rc accessories ,.
The pump for smoke, made entirely in aluminum, in the version V3 is in lighter (155 grams). Was designed to simplify the processing setup and, thanks to a integrated microprocessor, simply to programming. The characteristics are: power input 6 to 12 volts; 2/3 amp. absorption to 7.4V at maximum capacity; pump capacity adjustable from 50 a1000ml per minute with range 0/100%, dimensions of 75x35x35mm. The Smoke Pump V3 Secraft has installed a series of non-return valve integrated, unique feature in the field of pumps for smoke generator that makes this pump at 100% leak proof and does not allow leakage of unwanted liquid.
The pump, which is CE certified for filtering radio interference and it is always recommended before installation, try it out of the model for a test to make sure everything it’s ok. The pump need a dedicated battery pack (if you have a control unit that provide it it’s a good solutyion). The higher voltage allows best control and efficiency of the pump. The cable marked the on / off the pump will be connect intoa dedicated channel of the Rx. In the Tx is necessary have a two-position switch (on/off) optionally combined with a rotary trim that will allow you to adjust the flow of the liquid in flight; otherwise you will have to act to attempts by decreasing or increasing the stroke of the channel. The pump has an automatic device that delays of 2 seconds from start-up to avoid undesirable run before the Tx is on..

One interesting accessory that I have always found from Secraft is the fuel and oil smoke caps. The pair of caps for refueling are supported by aluminum a shaped plate that fixed in the fuselage. On the plate you can shows details about the type of liquid that is entered in each tube. The good closed of caps is assicurate by two screw with o-ring locking. Practical and beautiful to see ...

I took the opportunity of this test to try a nice device that I already have seen install in oither jet and 3D plane in USA but had no idea where I could buy it in Italy. These power supply RX is a device made by “Smart-Fly” (http://smart-fly.com) company from Arizona specialized in electronic accessories for model Rc airplanes and in particular to electronic management of Rx and servo for has a good range of models.
I decided to install in my new Extra 330SC the version "PowerSystem Sport Plus". These device Smart-Fly using two batteries Li-Po 2S (or other) with output 6v for servo and separatly 5 volts for the receiver; the sport plus have install inside a switch "Cutoff" to the engine control connect by cable optically isolated. The input channels are 8 with two outputs for each channel (total 16 servos). In these devide there is no matching function and reverse. The Rx is located above the control unit and fixed with hard velcro type (provided in the kit) and output cables are placed in the left and right of the unit. Particularly to be emphasized in these device Smart-Fly is that the Rx is connected to devide from input with single cable (withe cable - signal): this because the need power is supplied separatly to servo control wiith filtered signal, buffered and constant voltage of 6 volts. Do not forget, finally, that the outputs from the channels marked "A" and "H" will always be utilized for connection becouse these is the channels that powered the rx…

In addition to the outputs of the servos and battery, the control unit Smart-Fly have two inputs port for charging direct of the two batteries (to in this port can also be connected to a digital instrument for monitoring the battery charge).
All this device weight only 54 grams (+ Rx) and need small space in the model. The hardware is typical of all the power control units of this category: short circuits protection, damage of one of the two batteries, 5 amp. absorption from servo in continuous and 15 of the peak, filters on all the output signals, LED indicators for power status, the device monitors both parcels and uses the energy from the battery with greater capacity; at the same time monitors and automatically isolates the pack that may have problems so that it can not damnage the other pack with consequent loss of control of the aircraft. The controller PowerSystem Sport Plus is supplied without external switch: if you need it is necessary buy it separately.
Interestingly, as mentioned, the ignition system "Cutoff" integrated in the card using a fiber optic cable for the control unit ON/OFF switch that separates the engine ignition from the receiver eliminating any possible interference.
Another note is for the presence in the Smart-Fly Sport Plus device of two connectors "power expander". Smart-fly for PowerSystem Sport Plus has thought to possible expansions equipping with two connectors "Fly PowerExpander" offering programming versatility of the servos through an additional card.
But of this unit I will have opportunity to talk in depth.

The exaust kit for my new DA-70 arrive next week ... I buy it from ASPower (www.aspower.it) I’m waiting… Two muffler with intake for smoke that will enable me to try the engine and install the cowl.
I have finish installation of the motor and the power unit for the motor ignition. The batteries (2 x for servo power unit and one for the engine control unit) will be positioned at the bottom of basse wooden, where I think to put the rudder servo. I change these solution and put the rudder servo in tile if the model. This for C.G.
As recommended by Desert Aircraft I have also bought the synthetic oil "Red Line Racing" for fuel. Also finished assembling tanks and pump the smoke pump Secraft (version V3).

With an engine as the good DA-70 could not miss two good propellers.: I chose Mejzlik (www.mejzlik.eu). The choice to mount a carbon prop compared to a wood prop is certainly influenced by a part from the aesthetic side and on the other by the awareness to having, with that prop carbon, an engine more fluid for “effect flywheel” on the engine. In these test I have rthe opportunity to check the difference with the new engine and a beautiful 24x8 and 24x10 Mejzlik prop. The Mejzlik (www.mejzlik.eu) is a "must" in this sector with its products which are used by some best pilot in the world. A very high quality product, made in carbon fiber unidirectional and bi-directional and epoxy. Light, super strong, with central surface "hard" for drilled safely. The profile of the prop is optimized for maximum performance at a low level of noise and vibration. The propellers Mejzlik, get balanced at the factory buti s good idea che kit after drill… . As you can see in the picture I purchased from Mejzlik also trhe drillo guide accessory for drill correctly and without errors the prop. There are several “drill guide” for different engines. These accessory can not miss in the laboratory!

Finally arrived the exaust for my new DA-70. The set of two muffler are realized by AsPower (http://www.aspower.it) Italian brand specialized in production of excellent exhaust systems for RC engines. The long experience of ASPower, combined with a hight quality of material create reliable products used by moore modellist. AsPower offer a wide range of both, standard and custom. There are available specific sets for different Rc model and, alternatively, also made custom you need!
After much reflection and with the impossibility to install two canister iun the model, I opted for the two muffler that allow me to save almost 500 grams of weight.

In the kit AsdPower provide also the four bolts required to fixed the muffler to the cylinder.

Finally arrived the new radio. After so many years I decided to switch from Futaba to Jeti for two reasons: first the trade policy of Futaba: i thinks that the relationship of price/performance it's less convenient (my personal opinion). The second because after reading so many positive reviews from these Tx I decided to try it.
I buy it In Italy from Hobbytoys (http://www.hobbytoys.it) the Jeti DS-16, which differs from the DC-16 for dimensions. The entry level is the DS-14 Tx which has the structure similar to the DS-16 (lacking a pair of switches) and some features are disabled and that can be enabled later also activate online but behind payment.

The Jeti DS-16 Tx comes with included in the package (in addition to the transport case) the RX 7 channels Duplex protocol EX system that handles up to 16 channels of high-resolution, real-time telemetry and EXBus for interfacing with regulators, stabilizers voltage, sensors and worldwide system Jeti Duplex EX. The peculiarity of the system Duplex EX is the interconnectivity between compliant devices and allows devices to interact. You can, for example, program wirelessly directly from the Rx Tx.
In the kit DS-16 find the USB cable to connect the PC to Tx, the charger, the strap, manual, a set of allen keys, mat.
Also from Hobbytoys (http://www.hobbytoys.it) I buy the Rx 9 and 14 channels and the GPS device for the transmission of data relating to speed, height, location and so on. model.
I must say that at first glance the radio gives a feeling of solidity and also tilted the screen is easy to read.

Hello friends!
In these last days I could not continue my work on the model but I started to "work" with my new Jeti DS-16. Thanks to the Jeti dealer in Italy, Hobbytoys (http://www.hobbytoys.it) I was able to clarify some doubts, although the software is in Italian. After many years of Fubata the transition to Futaba Jeti was almost painless: after reading manual I can really start programming the models. Really very intuitive.
But today I want present an "accessory" particularly interesting for Jeti DC/DS series: "Pimp your Jeti" ...

Cover of all colors and nice wallpapers. The German company produces “Pimp Your Jeti” (https://www.pimpyourjeti.de) that gives you the chance to customize the Tx. Available for both series DS DC that are realized in static film removable and reusable.
The idea of "Pimp Your Jeti" was to create a product that would free the imagination of the modeler also in the characterization of the aesthetic of its Jeti Tx. The film, in addition to change the look of the TX, protects the part most exposed to wear and dirt accumulation, and once they are tired you can simply remove. But the German company not only is able to realize cover customized with any photo or drawing what you want. And that simply working online: the site have active section to upload images, change the layout of the labels on the Tx or choose from a number of layouts preset.
Installation is simple as you just place it over the TX and press lightly with no need to remove switches etc. Retail price of 49 Euros.

Too many switches to remember in my Tx.... For not confuse me I designed these small labels that will print on white PVC and place on the switches of the Jeti DS-16.
These Tx continues to get excited rather than go ahead with programming.
