I retract my comments. Roy has SUPER customer service, and I should have contacted him before saying anything on RCU. I jumped the gun, and I apologize.

I think I was at the same swap meet. Some good deals there. Oh BTW, I bought an iron sock for .50. I get home and find out the entry hole for the iron is sewn shut (very nicely too). So I'll have to spend 15 minutes carefully plucking the threads out. They had two Irvine .53 NIB there for $110 each. Also 46FX NIB for $85. Not bad. Too bad I didn't have more money.

We all have the same problem - too many planes and too little money!

Drew,
I would like to address the problems that you are having with the HP 3-D meter. I will address them in the order in which you listed them:

1. If your control surface deflects 5 degrees when you put the 3D meter onto your plane, take into consideration the meter only weighs 50 grams (about 1.8 ounces) and a standard servo should have at least 40 ounces of torque. You might want to check for play in your control linkages or that your servo has the power that it should. The weight of the meter should not cause a control surface to move from its neutral point.

2. The meter should not move all over the place so it is quite possible that you got a meter with a clamp that does not have the spring tension set correctly.

3. If the weight is hitting your control surface, you have put the clamp too far on the control surface itself. The surface need only be inserted to where the full area of the clamp pads are on it. You can also move the meter to the outside edge of the control surface.

4. Although we take every precaution to insure quality control, I am not questioning that the tension on your clamp is not correct.

To remedy this,
I will be happy to send you a replacement clamp with the correct tension.

If you're not happy with this solution, I will refund the money that you paid for the meter.
I stand behind my products 100% and have always received positive feedback . You can contact me directly so we can remedy this situation.

I have 2 of these meters, some of the best money I ever spent on tools. I put one on each elevator half or both ailerons and check throws and adjustments. I have no problems with the meter deflecting the control surface or slipping. This is a great tool!

I also bought 2 of these at that swap meet in Wisconsin today. I think it is a really nice design and it worked great on the U CAN DO I am setting up right now. I works much better then that piece of crap great planes one I wasted money on. Roy seams to be willing to work with you on this problem. I would have emailed him before bashing his product. After all, his email address is all over the package and product.

I'll contact Roy directly. Maybe I got one with a clamp that is too weak. I'm glad to see that other people have had positive results, because I do want this meter to work.

JoeaIR,

You too need to see how the socks actually attach. I did the same thing you are trying to do to install the sock, They however DO NOT insert into the sock they merely get snugged up around bottom of iron. To late if you've removed stitching............

Drew,

I have a couple of Roy's meters and as some of the other guys here are saying, I love them....Roy has a great product on his hands, but every once in a while it is likely that a bad one may get out the door........Roy is a great guy and I am sure he will take care of you......For future reference, I think it would have been courteous of you to talk to Roy about this first before telling everyone here that his stuff is junk.....On the other hand, bringing it here everyone will get to see his great customer support....

Roy has had these meters out for a while now and this is the first complaint that I have heard. I am certain he will take care of you.

Good Luck

Doing fine thank you. How about you? Busy re-wiring my 40%er with a powerbox and other power goodies. Lost one side of the plane Saturday and learned all about pucker factor[X(]
Take care and nice hearing from you_bob
