Default Funtana Battery securing

how are you folks securing your batteries in the funtana 40s, I have just fitted the saito 72 and spent about an hour getting the throttle arm to run smoothly.

With regard the battery fitting, I am using a 5 cell 6.0 V 1100mAh Nicad, is that ok, but more importantly how are you securing it to the plane/fus as I will propably need to move mine to adjust CG level.

if you can attach a photo I would appreciate it.

Many thanks.

Sorry no photo but I can explain what I did with a YS63 powered FuntanaS. After I installed the fuel tank, I wrapped my flat 4 cell 1100 MAh NiMH in foam. Then I pushed it under the tank between the slant in the firewall and the tank. Its as far to the front as it would go and to the left on the fuse. I CA'd thin balsa strips between the firewall and front former to hold it in place. Since our engines are about the same weight, you will probably have to put the battery somewhere under the fuel tank as well. My ARF uses a 1.7 ounce True Turn Spinner so your spinner might be a little lighter. Anyway mine balances out at 5.5 inches.

Just make sure not to put any pressure on your throttle control rod as it will cause binding. I surrounded mine with thin balsa so the tank or battery would not push on it in a high G manuever.

Hey

Im putting my battery in the big area between the servo and fuel tank! I made some plywood piece to put my velcro on it to put my battery! I also made a piece of plywood screw to the little wall to secure the fuel tank in place... Check the attach picture for more info...

Thanks

I have a question about the fuel tank. On my funtana, the fuel tank sticks out about a 1/4" behind the former that the wing dowels go into. I did like the instructions said and just glued a craft stick to secure it, but it is in a bind. The only way I know to keep it from doing that is to remove the foam that I place in front of the tank, but then it touches the fire wall, which cause air bubbles. Could you possible describe how you got your installed your tank. any help would be appreciated. As far as batter mounting goes, on mine with a Saito 100 all I did was epoxy velcro down behind the throttle servo tray and held the battery with the velcro. It is a very secure and simple way of mounting the battery.

Hey

Mine is just fitting fine and the head of the tank is able to get out in the hole... I touch the firewall a little bit but that's ok...

Thanks

You don't have enough room to put foam in front of the tank. I wanted to do the same thing. The instructions say to put a bead of silicone glue around the spout of the tank and push it into the hole. I formed my silicone glue and let it dry before I inserted it through the hole to guarantee a good thick bead between the tank and the firewall hole. The glue also keeps the firewall hole from pushing on your brass tubes and stopper.

Your engine is a few ounces heavier than the 72 so you were able to put the battery behind the tank. Putting the battery behind the tank with a 72 will probably require nose weight.

My battery is behind the wing hold down. I covered the hole with a piece of light balsa and slid it in. The wing keeps it from sliding out the bottom. My CG with a .72 Saito is 6-3/8". I will post a pic when I get home.

Thanks for all your information. I went out there and removed the extra foam and put a small bead of silicone around it. It still protrudes a little but not near as bad as before. Thanks again.

Here's the pic I promised. I have also had the battery under the 1/4" stick behind the throttle servo.

i had a .46fx in my funtana with my battery next to the tank and i balanced it at 6" with alot of nose weight. I just installed a OS FS-70II last night and with all the weight removed and not moving the batt. or touching a thing it balanced dead on 6" perfectly! That translates into good for me though, what was dead lead in the nose, has now turned into more cubes for the same weight i had before with the .46fx. I am at work now and as soon as i get out i am going to ground run another tank through it then fly her!! I am excited to see how it performs.
