you will never get unlimited vertical with either of these planes. the os .40 la is a very weak engine and would best suit the role of a 20 sise 3d plane.

Put it in a Fun Air 3D from Chief Aircraft. It will come in at 3 lbs, 13 ounces and fly 3D very well. Use an APC 11-4 prop. The Fun Air takes some modifying to get assembled right but it flies darn good. Also it's only $99. I put an OS 40FP in mine and the dudes at the field were all freaking out how well it flew the bird.

This is my friends' plane. He has an OS 40 LA with an APC 12x4 prop.. This is the only arf that I know of that will come out light enough for the LA. it's cheap too!

What? Semi???! No way, I hope a Cougar is fully 'cause I am definately not getting a Magic now...
It seems more flat bottomed than semi, that doesn't look too much like a semi.

It's semi!! But it flies inverted just fine! Don't let that stop you from buying one. They're very light and cheap..
But they're uglier than dirt! Now that's reason not to buy one! LOL

The Cougar section gives an easier prophang and less hassle over the whole speed range.
the Magic setion is better for super slow agility and floating which is the Cougars only downside, but this gives a little trouble when flying at full throttle as it'll want to climb.
i'm on the hunt for a LA 40 as it'll make my Pheonix even lighter ( read better ) when when i rebuild it, i don't need the power and speed of a 36

I think Als have ONE LA40 unboxed going cheap. Check in the special offers section.
Are you sure about the Cougar? Didn't that have the best climb and glide in the nats? Errr anyway, you recommened the Cougar over the Magic at your website.

gezz, see how light that LA 40 compaired to the GP42 it's only 3g off that JE 53!
the la's still 50 quids worth of new engine, i'd be happy with the non gay blue old FP which a firend might have lying about doing nothing

First the Irvine is a gay red now the OS is a gay blue. West engines gay purple? What about that new JE 56?
I don't mind engines when they are silver and stuff except the dull MDS look. Personally I think the OS blue is ok, if you have a cowl over it I don't suppose it matters much. Still have yet to try an OS. I don't need any engines, I have an .46 and .53 both Irvine. The .53 is booked for the Capiche but if I don't get something for my .46 it'll decompose.
That's why I designed my own design funfly, hopefully simple to build may flat sheet sides etc etc

If an Irvine .53 is a bored out .46 and an Irvine .46 is a bored out .40, Irvine should just sell .53's, lighter than a .40 same dimensions crap loads more boom boom. But thats marketing or something there abouts.
So what are you going to settle with Varad?

if you ever get an os, i think the la will leave you with a bad imnpression. the fp, fx, and ax series are far better engines imo and they have tons more power. after good treatment, my la vibrated it;s own prop loose it was so bad and it over-revved and ruined itself. no, it was not my error. i tightened it down per specifications and i had not changed the prop for a couple weeks. it was jsut that bad of an engine. the idle was really poor, it deadsticked most of the time. i eventually got tired of putting up with its antics and i sold it and bought an fx. that the best 2 stroke engine i have ever opperatied. i have used (but not owned) gms, irvine, tt and others, but my good ol.46 fx was the best of all of them. it was so quiet that when there was another plane inthe air i could not even hear it. it had just as much power and it had the smoothest idle i have ever seen. i have never used the new ax but i have heared nothing but praise for it, and it is mostly the same as the fx, jsut with a couple parts that are designed f=differently, but same concept.

ah as long as my engines start first or second flick (yes, flick, I avoid starters) then they are fine, they transition fine and they work fine. So they are good in my book.
Most of the LAs I have seen are ok but one LA10 or was it a 15 was a bit quirky. The FX may be good but I'm going to try a few fourstokers anyway, I wouldn't really pay that much for a two stroke if I havn't used it before.
Bearing in mind we have to look at a large number of the same engine to really determine performance. Bad running in can effect an engine seriously.

I had no experiance with the fx either. i spend all of my allowance money on that and i am glad i did. Same with ys. I had no prior experiance with it, but i had heard nothing but praise so i spent everything i had on my 110 and i am very happy with it. In all honesty, there are very few "bad Brands" out there. just look up their reputation and if it looks good to you, than it is probably worth the money.

i like the old FP's, I've got a OLDDDDDDDDD 25 that still runs a bit hot but ok, and i just picked up another.
West has purple highlights in the right place but it's still a proper ali engine.
the JE, black ummmm absorbs heat, will it work? I'm pretty sure the blue and red engines do nothing too keep the temp down.

absorbs heat full stop, now that could take heat from the engine, or it could store it up... i think the bare finish is best for heat dispersal, the West is anodized and doesn't really effect cooling, the painted Irvine's and OS's is a weird idea.

Yep I wodner why they painted em but it seems like it doesnt effect the performance much. Though on a warm or even cold day you can't touch an Irvine 'cause the cylinder head whill melt you. Gah hey are ok running engines but I don't want to store them, I want to use both. If anyone has a cheap cougar going for sale, even if its a little battered Ill take it.
