I am considering purchasing a YS 63 but would have a hard time getting higher nitro fuel than 15%. Will the YS run okay on this? Otherwise I may purchase either the Saito .91 or .82.
Plane will be the flip 3d probably. Thanks

It will run fine on the 15% nitro. You just get a little more power when you go with more nitro. More important is to make sure you have 20% lube with the YS or the Saito. These 4-strokes do very well with more lube. They run cooler and last longer. Can you get fuel that has 20% lube? If not can you get synthetic oil in pints or quarts? You must live outside Madison if you can't get high nitro fuel. That city probably has a ton of hobby shops. I live in Milwaukee.
BTW, how much does the Flip weigh?

I don't have the flip yet but should be less than 5 lbs. For some reason the local hobby shops carry 10, 15 or 30% nitro but not 20%. I'm too cheap to buy the 30% heli fuel. I may be able to special order the 20% though.
As far as the lube, Wildcat has 18% oil and Bryons has 16% - I've added Byrons castor oil to bring the % to 20 for my Saito .72. Some at the field I go to use regular glow fuel (10 or 15% nitro and 16% oil mixture) on Saito's w/o any problems.
Have you run the YS on 15% w/o starting or other problems? Thanks for the feedback

No I have not run it on 15%. I run Wildcat 30% and add 3.5 ounces of Klotz synthetic oil to bring it up to 20% lube. If the fuel thing is an issue you could get the Saito 72 and be happy using 15% nitro. You're at sea level and that ARF is only 5 lbs. Plenty of power. The YS63 is nice though. I run it on a 6 lb FuntanaS and it pulls it around very well.

I have run mine on 10 % nitro, when my 20% ran out and it runs ok. The top end is not as good, but it definatly ran with out a problem. The main thing id keep the oil at 20%

If a YS can run on 10 percent after 20 suddenly it all becomes more economical, although people YS are very good which they are, I can't help but wonder that most engines will gain simular performance if they ran on 25 percent as a YS does.
I am probably going to get a load of people attacking me for this but its just a thought thats crossed my mind.

I've got mine on 20% nitro 18% oil. Doesn't seem to hurt it, but then I am a bit worried about the oil content, but the shop did say it would be fine, it's recommended for O.S. Engines. WHat do you guys think?

Mine seems to have a lot of love for 30% cool power which I think has 23% oil content as well. I've read and been told that idling improves as the nitro content increases, to say nothing of the ability to swing larger props [8D]. Expense is an issue but the engine really hums on it and the extra oil affords some peace of mind at sustained high rpms. The instructions seemed to recommend at least 20% nitro, as I recall.

Anyone running 18% oil that's concerned about oil content, just throw 4 ounces of Klotz synthetic oil in a gallon. That'll get you up to 20.5% Works for me. I took a plastic thow away cup, measured 4 ounces of water in it, marked the cup with a magic marker and that is what I use to add oil to my gallons of fuel. The 20% oil is important, the extra nitro is just a luxury.

I've just got YS63S and ran 15% nitro and 20% oil from SIG for a few weeks.
I did not see any problem with 15% fuel. I have APC 13X6 prop running top end at 9300 RPM and idle at 2300 RPM steady. The power you can feel from going idle to top end is excellent. I am thinking about getting another one.
Yes 15% is OK
