O.K...
New DS811 installed..linked up & "Y" leaded to the other aileron servo in the wing, still a S3010..switch on.[:-].....excellent
..what was 5mm of slop/backlash whatever...is now barely 1mm ...Brilliant ..
...only tinsy winsy thing .....JR's go the opposite direction..
.... now the real downside , i've just found somewhere that sells these DR811's for £29.99...$55 .....blast..!

I'm a big fan of 3010s (have them all round in the Hype), but I really like Hitec 5945 and 5925s. Got them in the UCD - great servos for the price!

Got to say i'm a little dissapointed in these 3010's..they were supposed to be good, todays findings have sugested otherwise...i mean, i went straight out and bought 5 3010's... then found that things could be better ...ok, i know the 811's are a slightly different ball game ... the 475's, 645 & 77's i have in a UCD seemed real sharp ...so ive just repeated the procedure and swapped the 3010's for 645's.. ok....not as good as the 811's but the play is still down to 2mm from 5mm with the3010's ... never thought id say this about futaba servos[
]....Hitec's or JR Digitals could be the order of the day

Thats interesting. My futaba 3010s have hardly any slop and perform excellently in my C50.
Doubt you would notice the difference bettween the Jr and Futaba in flight with a 3d funfly though.........

mmmmm thats odd I've got 3010s in my Hype and they are supurb, no slop, fast, great centering. Never used JR so I can't comment, but I'm quite pleased with them so far.
which UCD have you got? I'm about to maiden my 60 (Ys91 playing up tho) I've got 3010 on aileron, Hitec 5925 x 2 on ele and hitec 5945 on Rudder. Absolutely supurb servos those hitec digitals. Can't wait to get it airbourne.....

591s are old and discontinued. As with all major manufacturers, they discontinue products due to poor engineering. With digi's still fairly new to the industry as opposed to standards, you will see many more upgrades. Keeping with any major brand, stepping up to digitals is a clear advantage in performance. Joe

Y'now throughout all the " Dissapointment " if thats the word, over these 3010's, a couple of things bugged me.....i seem to remember sometime back, on an obscure non related thread, that these things were incosistent in quallity..who knows...
.....2nd thing ..dare i say this ..but it is fact ..i bought all 5 at a show earlier this year...boxed ...sealed ...and a fiver less than SMC, or whoever, could do em for ..hmm...[:-]...lets not go here..
60 size UCD...& a new O.S .91FSIIP ...had it hidden in the house in embrionic form for a while
..she never did find it ...
Phillybaby
...but why..?[:-]
Raj
Thought about that one too...allways use the Du-bro heavy duties specific to servo type..these were real snug...
I'd never used a digital before ..no need ...but now..well....Joe's right .....

For small planes like this, I've been using the Futaba 9252. .14 speed and about 91 oz in Quite a ways from 5Kg, but then so are the 811's.

oh yea i forgot to mention. all hitec digitals will handle a fully charged 6v nicad pack (comes out to about 7.2 volts peak) with no problem. they are designed to be able to handle it. i really think your answer lies in digitals because they simply fit the application of "3D" better than standard servos. they will center better and hold their position better as well. they will be lighter than giant servos that are comprable torque wise and stronger than smaller servos which are comprable torque wise. the 5925 digital hitec makes is faster than a lot of micro servos but has the same amount of torque as 2-3 standard servos combined. 3d and pattern are really where digitals shine.

Chuck ..
looks a nice thing there..and Futaba to boot
..if i was to be totaly honest and a real idiot about all this ...AND splitting this down to a Knats knacker...
an option of 4.8v & 6v would be great...it would stop me tripping over myself at a later date
I know its bank holliday sunday
..but i realy wish i could nip out to a LHS or whatever and grab, say, six of the sevos mentioned in this thread ...install them in THIS wing ..with THIS linkage ..with THIS battery..and see EXACTLY how each performed
..Realism....

i know, if my Capiche could hit me it propblalby would for insulting it with 4 591's it's so slow to react to stuff, the only reason they have power is the low gearing, a 3003 geared down would be better.
will get 3010's as soon as i can afford all 6 i need

I'm not sure where Futaba got crossed up on their servo voltages. One theory is that the 9252 was originally designed as a tail rotor servo to be used with a Futaba gyro, and the gyros DO NOT operate on 6v.
When Ann Marie Cross was still with Great Planes, she assured us that the 9252 would work at 6v for the reasons given. I mounted 4 of them up and used 6v to complete the radio installation. No problems at all. Then Ann Marie left, and the new Great Planes tech people had a rather hard line stance over strictly following the Futaba voltage guidelines.
Deciding discretion was the better part of $300 worth of servos, I switched back to 4.8v. I liked the (presumed to be) .10 speed at 6v...plenty of torque even at 91 oz in for my application.

Luke ...
I know what you mean.. i realy do
...but i feel that it wouldnt be fair to the build commitment that i've aimed for on this airplane, to put in servo's that i'm just not 101% happy with and for the reasons set out above , dont get me wrong..these 3010's are great, standard hi-torque servo's..no question of a doubt there ..but it's thier suitability for use in THIS application that i feel could be a tiny bit better
