I have been flying 3D for years (some of you have seen some pics I have posted
) I have always done all of my 3D with no special mixing at all but I really want to try my hand at it now.
I was wondering how do I set up my radio (Eclipse 7) to have the Ailerons couple with the elevator. I.E. When I give the plane up BOTH ailerons move up. I am running 1 servo per side on a basic Y straight into channel 1 on my receiver. Do I need to run one of them into the flap channel on the receiver or is it all done via radio??? If done all by radio then walk me through it.

From: salt lake city, UT,
on my jr 8103 I use a non multipoint mix #3 or #4 and mix elevator to flaperon about 30%, you will want flaperons to move in opposite dirrection of elevator - never in the same direction. In the old days we would mix in same dirrection to increase elevator effectivness -to do tight loops etc. 10 years ago a tight loop was a spectacular 3d manuver. today we have large elevator control surfaces and 45 deg throws = no longer need this. opposite flaperons really help 3d manuvers - when doing a harrier, when flaperons go down you increase wing lift and are able to maintain a high angle of attack at a slower speed much easier. when hovering and torque rolling prop air will push off flaperons in one dirrection and push off elevator in opposite directon it is like having someone holding the tail steady making these much easier. it is like slowing down the realism on a simulator. for a year I have experimented with more or less mix and had this on a switch, now I have it on all the time at about 30%, every airplane is different start with 10% on a switch and experiment. keep me posted, thanks

Larry I wish I knew more about your radio. I can tell you how I mixed it on my 9C. You do have to run a wire for each servo. Then 1 Aile goes in the Aile plug The other in the flap plug. The radio has to be set to flaperon setting. The I used two of the programable mixes. I mixed one with the master as the ELEV and the AILE as the slave. Then I mixed the other with the master as the ELEV and the flap as the slave. On this radio you change the mix from + to - depending on if you want flaperon or spoileron.
Is there a support section on this site for Hitec? If there is I would ask again there.

Thanks guys. I am really looking for it to move in the same direction for tighter waterfalls on this new funtana. Hovering is not really a problem for me, its always just came naturally. However a more stable harrier would be nice. I am currently getting right at 70 degrees deflection on most of my planes on 3D rates. I am just looking for something to play around with.

I got it down
I used Daveo's suggestion of running the ailerons into seperate channels and went to my elevator flap mixing and assigned it to one of my flight cond' switches for flapperons and another one for spoilerons.

I am about to head off to the field to try all of this out now. I have my spoilerons set at 50%. I figured there is no need to ease into it. Might as well go all out if we are going to do it.

Southern Touch,
Sounds like you have got it going.
As mentioned in this thread there are 2 options, just wanted to be sure you caught that.
Flaperons- Elevators go up,,, ailerons go down. And Vice Versa... Excellent for waterfalls and tightening up loops. Plus I use mine sometimes if there is no wind when landing.
SPOILERONS!! WOHOO!- Elevators go up and the ailerons go up too!! Excellent for some stunning elevators, When you pull full up elevator the ailerons come up and reduces the wing lift and the plane will fall almost straight down in a harrier attitude. GREAT 3D tool!!! I play with the amount of aileron throw I get in proportion to how my elevator I pull when Im setting up the mix. Once you get it right you can almost totally eliminate wing rock in a elevator. WARNING- Be very careful with this function as you probably know it kills the wings lift. I have mine on the spring "snap/trainer" switch NOT on a 2 position switch. I just hold the switch with my left index finger while Im doing an elevator and let go as I fly out. If you put it on a 2 position and inadvertantly have it on at takeoff or leave it on after a manuever accidentally you will probably crash, trust me I found out the hard way.
