hi folks, hoping to test and maiden my Funtana tomorrow, little probelm I think,.
I have a saito 72 fitted in it. and I am trying to sort out the C of G before tomorrow, I know I know shoul have done this sooner, the battery I am using is a 6v 5cell 1100mAh Nicad. and all servos are the new Hi-tec 635 Karbonite ones except for throttle which is a mini hi-tec, forget the model 81 or 85 I believe.
Anyhow where should I put the battery it seems as though I will have to add loads of weight after just trying to do it, and I have some lead, put how do you guys fix the lead in place. I dont have any of that sticky lead you get from tyre dealers.
was hoping to maiden it tomorrow (monday)., but its all down to balancing it. it is tail heavy at the moment for sure.
tried searching on here for C of G help with Funtana and Saito 72 but can't find anything yet. Still looking
Hope you can help b4 tomorrow.
Keith

Chef,
PM mattyd he is maidening his funtana tomorrow at our club too and should be able to advise you of his CG. Had a brief look here:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10...mpage_8/tm.htm
but general concensus seems to be 6 and 1/4" back to prevent tip stalling.
Good luck
Andy

Chef-uk remember what i told you. You should do what I did, just move the throttle servo forward and put the battery on the side of the fuel tank as close to the firewall as possible. Also the receiver can come up too. I have a Saito 91 but yours should balance with this. Hope this helps

Well I have just got things ready in the car for today, weather is glorious, not a cloud in sight and bright sunshine plus no trees are blowing and it's only 8.45am. Could be a nice day. S Raptor 30, Funtana and Wot 4 in the car ready for the off.
I got the Funtana to balance nicely at around 5.25 - 5.5 inches from LE, throttle servo at moment is in stock position. Had to put some lead in at the front in foam under fuel tank including the battery to balance out. Will see how it goes. Done movements as recommended for initial test fly plus dialed in dual rates for 3D when the time comes along with a little Expo to soften things a little round neutral.
I shall let you know how it all goes, this will be the first time the engine has even started so will run a tank through it first anyhow using 16%

Funtana Cody, just a note. DO you not tape your crystal in place? looing at your photo does not look like it. May be an idea my friend, would hate you to loose the model just because that came loose.
BTW anyone, I have pinned all surfaces except Ailerons, how are you pinning these as they are so damn large?

Well.........it flies, I am so happy with it. Got up to the field today, glorious weather, could not be batter, hot as hell. fuelled it and primed, then turned it over and it fired straight away. Boy do 4 strokes purr. This is my 1st ever 4 stroke, and I cannot see me going back to 2 strokes now. Sounds glorious. ran a tank through it, took cowl off for first few flights and bloody hell there is oil everywhere, even had one of those rubber johnny's that go on your exhaust pipe as I need it to clear cowl and it blew it clean off.
Anyhow, I was not sure about taking it for its 1st flight, in retrospec I should have, but someone else more experianced tested it and it flew great, took of from our recently mowed runway in about 20 foot and had no probelms throughout the flight. engine behaved perfectly. I set the rates at what was given in manual for test flying etc and it seems fine. Landed fine and no tip stalling etc like I have read about on here. This thing virtually lands at walking pace. great!
Anyhow now it was my turn. Im nervous because its my new toy, I have put what i consider a lot of money into this plane. I started it and walked over to runway with it. Shouted Taking off and within 5 seconds it was airborne. Flew it around for a few circuits before doing some rolls and loops, bunts etc nothing special as I want to get used to it, couple of stall turns etc, played around and then thought I should land it. cut power back and it drifted in fine. I had one hell of a smile on my face. I am happy with this plane, Now i just need to get out and practise more with it.
This Saito 72 on a 14x4 prop does the plane real happy. After everything I have read about the Funtana on here its nice to finally be in the club that flies them. thanks so much for all of your help in recent posts, it does not go unnoticed guys.
Happy flying.
