Mine arrived at my doorstep today. I'm going to try and have it ready by next weekend. How long did it take you to get yours flying? Tell me how she flies when the weather clears up!

I just took my time building it. Could prob finish it in 3 nights a few hours each night. Nice kit goes together very nice. What engine you putting on it? If you use a 25 read the post and make a hatch under the wing etc... read up on it search for mini3d here and you will find lots of help or just ask I will help if I can.

I'm still nuts about mine, it is down for repairs, however. [:@]
Mine has a 25FX (10x3 APC & Wildcat 20/20 at 14,300rpm) on it, with the RX and BATT under the trailing edge of the wing. I fly it at 2 pounds 4 ounces.
I've never flown a plane so "at home" in 3D flight. It just acts like it "wants" to do 3D. Pull it up into a hover, and let go of the TX. You can count to at least 3 before it falls out, even in a bit of wind. It will actually do a shallow hands off harrier for even longer. Put it nose into the wind, and pull up to 30 or 40 degrees and let go. It just sits there. It does high alpha knife edge well, and has a smokin' roll rate, once you crank up the throws.
I love this plane.
The damage was from doing harrier "rudder drags" too close to the sun down on the horizon. I flopped it in, and broke the motor mount. I'm gonnal dremel the ply off, and add an aftermarket mount. Then all I have to do is bend the gear back straight. It should be an easy fix.
The only thing I don't like about the plane is cleaning the oil off of it. For some reason, it gets more GOO on it than anything I've ever seen. That plus the fact that I might fly 10 flights on it before I try to clean it comes out to a big slippery mess. There is oil everywhere by the time I'm ready for the quick charger.
Anyone that enjoys stress free 3D (or lower stress 3D) should give the Mini 3D a good looking at. The plane truly doesn't know how small it really is.

Sweet. I have an OS 25 LA on mine how do you think it will hover. I have read in the other post that the 25 works nice thats why I bought it. I ran about a tank through mine to break the engine in a little and your right it got covered in goo.
I have not weighed mine yet but I did add bigger wheels and a tail wheel. Bigger screws to hold the fire wall on, a hatch under the wing, a 4 oz tank, some tri stock to beef up the land gear where it goes on the fire wall and a few more things I guess I may be at 2 lb 5 oz or so I will weigh it when I go to my friends house to find out.

Mine had a 25LA, and if I could get to run well, it would still have a 25LA. The LA hovered it just fine, but mine did not run well at all. I hope yours does better.
As I recall, I was getting well over 12000rpm on a 10x3 APC with the LA, it just had a very poor low end. I never got a good low end needle setting. The FX is over 14000rpm on the same prop, and it has no problems with needle settings.

Anybody else have a problem with the OS 25 LA on low end? If so how did you fix it, some times if you take the low end screw all the way out it helps it's just an air bleed screw.

Well I just got back from the first flight on my Mini3D, I like it what a sweet plane. I still need to practice so I can hover better but I like it a lot the OS 25 LA has lots of power for the plane.

The book says for low rates Aileron up 15 degree down 15 degree, Elevator 15 up and down, Rudder 25 left and right. High rates: Aileron 25 up and down, elevator 25 up and down, Rudder 35 left and right. 3-D rates Aileron 35 up and down, Elevator 50 up and down rudder 50 left and right.
I measured mine and I have on high 1.5 inches up and down Aileron or maybe a little more on Elevator about 1.5 inches and rudder about 1.75 inches I will be adding more to the rudder as much as I can till it almost hits the elevator.
Hope this helps any more ? just ask be happy to help

p.s are you building one or do you have it already done?

Thanks for all those measurements. I have it all built now, I just have to get the control rods on the servos and go flying. I used a Great Planes motormount. I had a little trouble mounting that, I wished I had just gone with the wood that was on there. I hope to get it in the air tomorrow sometime. I'll keep you posted. Thanks Again!

Full throws on everything and 40% expo. THE ONLY WAY TO FLY!!! Anyway, seriously, I like the Mini with full throw. Somehow it doesn't seem to have the snap charachteristics of most planes. 40% expo keeps it predictable near center.
I also use flapperons for take off, but turn them off as soon as I'm in the air.

I'm running a new .25 LA on a 2LB 2oz Pizza Box Flyer. The second flight I doinked it and broke the backplate. Ordered a new metal (FP) backplate from the LHS and also ordered a 32 H carb under the recommendations of Paul Swanson. I had to turn almost 1/8 of an inch off the throat of the carb in order to have it fit the LA. First time I cranked it up with the new carb I couldn't believe it. THE POWER WITH THE NEW CARB WAS UNBELIEVABLE!!! Sorry I didn't tach it, but off hand I'd say at least 2 to 3 K increase. My little PBF went from pretty good power to a rocket. This plane is now the first plane that I've ever had that almost has too much power. I fly at about 1/4 to 1/3 throttle and only use full for long ballistic climb outs. The guys at the club were 100% convinced that I had a hot .46 on the plane when they saw it fly. They were in shock when they saw the .25. The sticker shock of the carb was a little hard to take as it cost almost as much as the engine, but now that I've used it I know it was worth every nickel.

I have an Os 32 fX ummm I may have to try the carb on my 25 sometime : ). The 40 % expo does that make it so the controls only move a little with the sticks and more the more you move the sticks? I'm pretty sure that is what it does just never tried it before. I love lots of throw and tons of power.

I about have the control surfaces where they need to be. Maybe I can fly the mini this evening. I was wondering, does the ailerons need to be straight with the wings or do they need a little bit of down incidence in them? When I look from the side, the ailerons are strraight with the wing, when I look from the top, they look like they are up a little, but I guess it is because the size of the ailerons throws me off. Does everyone elses lkook like this? Thanks!

TailTwister,
Do you know how much flaperons you use, like in degrees or anything like that? Also, do you mix your elevator in to your flaperons? Thanks!

I mix the flapperons to follow the elevators proportionally. I use a switch to turn them on and off. I try to mix them so that they travel about 70% of the distance of the elevators. Not a 70% mix, I just eyeball 70% or 75% of the actual movement. Some people prefer about half of the elevator throw. If I pull full 45 degrees of up elevator, they are in the 30ish degree range.
I use them only to take off. I give full power, and after about 5 feet of roll, I'll pull a small amount of elevator, with flapperon, and the Mini jumps about 10 feet up off of the ground. I then turn the flapperons off. It takes much more run up without the flapperons.

It's 1.3 oz difference. This setup must be awesome for 3d because I have never 3d'd before flying this plane
. First time out I was doing harriers up and down the runway, hovering (2 mistakes high), and an experienced pilot showed me how to get into a very flat spin. Awesome. Unlimited vertical, etc. love it. The only thing I didn't like about the plane was that it was so delicate...
