Dave Patrick 26% Extra 330L. Is it a good plane or not? How about its 3D capability?
I have a new Moki 180 I could use in it but will it be enough to pull out of the hover with some authority? Will it even prop hang at all? Specs say 12.6 to 14 pounds. I'm guessing nearer the 14.
Any info gratefully recieved before I buy. And if not the DP Extra then what else for my Moki?
Ta.

If you can get it down anywhere below 14 lbs it should hover and pull out fine as long as you dont live a mile high. But it is a very good plane and 3-ds pretty well.

saw one fly yesterday w/ gas. i think brison 46?/?? anyway it was way overpowered. it also was way over weight but it actually didnt seem to hurt it too bad. it still looked like it was light in the air.
the guy said it was at almost 16 lbs he was still getting used to it. he said that DP didnt recomend any more than the 180. and that it would be plenty for 3D. he went with gas because its cheaper to opperate. but he said he was rethinking this one. it looks great.

Thanks for the info guys. I posted on another couple of forums too and it looks as though the concensus is its a fine 3D ship but 15 pounds is a more realistic final weight. Maybe too much for a Moki 1.80 to hover?
Mark, will check out the CapX of Chip Hyde too. Thanks.
Ah well, the search continues...

I had the Patrick Extra. I was flying it on a BME 44 and the weight was in the high fifteens. You would probably come in around 15 or somewhere in the high 14's on the Moki. It would be OK, but not graet on your 1.8.
I took my Moki 1.8 and put it in the Dave Patrick Edge. That's a really good combo. I am just under 14 lbs and it flies great. The prop on the Moki 1.8 is the Mezjlik 19x8. This is a MUCH better setup for your Moki.

I had one of those:
Pre-ordered it, waited 6 months to get it. Had a Saito 1.80.
Came out way, way... way tail heavy: talked to DP, and did his suggested fix: all pull/pull tail surfaces control.......... Still had to add over 1 lbs of lead in the nose, even though I like my planes on the tail heavy side. I ended up with a 15+++ lbs sport plane.
That was a frustrating period with a lot of waisted time and money. I sold it.
DON'T WAIST YOURS !!!
When it comes to ARFs, I thinks H9 makes the best: I love my Funtana 90/Saito 1.50, Funtana .40/ Saito .91, and 33% Cap 232/ DA 100. I have built and sold other H9 models, they were all great but did not respond to my flying style.
My current favorite in the mid-size: FUNTANA 90.
Enjoy the flying

I love my DP Extra 330l I have a D/A 50 in it it weighs about 15 lbs and flies light with an abundance of power through the power curve, it will harrier and elevator with very little effort blasts out of a hover like a rocket, its one of my favorite planes I have ever had!!!

1fish,
First off I have to say that your plane looks great. This is the same exact setup that I have been thinking of building (DP Extra or Edge with a DA-50).
Could you tell me more about how your plane flies and any other helpful information about installing the DA-50 in the DP Extra?
What did you use for covering and paint?
Any other info that you feel is important about your plane would be great such as weight, cg, strength, ect.
Thanks

I am interested in knowing if you used two servos per aileron or just one - and how much torque used per aileron.
I have had this plane for awhile but have not started putting it together due to many reports of aileron flutter.
This plane seems to suffer from an unusual paradox: if you put in the recommended motor - you come out tail heavy....
If you put in a gasser - you achieve proper CG but may tear out the ailerons.
I am thinking of using an RCS Roto 35....or should I go with a 40cc?
