Default E-flite Ultimate, Hellraiser or Raptor?

I like the looks of these 3 for entering E 3D but can't find a great deal of details on any of them so was wondering if people might be able to offer some insight... I have never flown E 3D so I guess flying ease of the 3 would be the first question but overall I would just like to know which might be better than the other 2 and why... I like the hellraiser appearance wise but would rather the best plane for my ability than the best looking plane...

If you are just getting into RC flying or even if you are going to give 3D a try, maybe you should look into an EPP plane. Something rugged or !QUOT!Indestructible!QUOT!. Go to [link=http://www.funplanes.com]Funplanes[/link] and check out their videos. Not the best looking planes but they seem pretty forgiving and are still very 3D capable. Then move on to the others.

I am looking to get into the foamies as well. Would like one that can do 3D but want a good general flyer as well. Have looked at the hellraiser, raptor, etc. as well.

Skibo, I like the idea of these fun planes being indestructible but why are they so expensive? It seems like a bunch of the other foamies are in the $35-45 price range.

I am not as much a beginner as to be interested in the fun planes (no room for planes I might like)... I was just wondering if of the 3 I mentioned, if one was clearly better in any regard??

I have flown the E-flight and it is awsome. I bought the brushless motor for it and it can hover at half throttle. With unlimited verticle. Go with either of the E-flights (Tribute or ultimate) and you won't be disipointed. Just watch the videos of the ETOC.

The Hell Raiser is an aweosme plane and Mike Glass is a good guy to deal with! Get it and you will not be disappointed!

Well lets say you have a crash with any $40 foamy. A crash so bad you need to replace the kit....

Original Kit = $40
Replace crashed kit= $40
Time spent to R&R equipment= $$$$$$
Time spent setting up new A/C=$$$$$$

Add all that up and it will be less expensive and less headaches if you had purchased an "indestructable" A/C. And you can crash it as much as you like without the $$$ outcome.

I dont know just my thoughts. I have never flown any of these EPP foam planes, and have nothing to do with any companies that manufacture these types of planes.

I myself have had many types of foamies. Primarily because you can only crash and repair a foamy so many times. I am currently flying a AXI powered Shocky, an AXI powered Hellraiser, and a Hacker powered G-202.

I agree with mAvRiCk said. Quite fun in the hands of an experienced pilot.

Hey All , just finished my Raptor and only have 2 trim flts on it and need to get the CG correct.
Had it wicked tail heavy on the 1st flt and it was pretty weird. @nd flt was much better after moving the batt forwad about 1/2 inch. It does most of the 3D stuff real well and does have superb knife edge with no rudder at all !! I'll try and let ya know more as I get it dialed in more. It is FUN and Quick !! [8D] Keep havin FUN !! Skibo whats the difference with these planes? Are they made of a diferent material than the ones from Fancy Foam or the ones from Hobby Lobby?

Yes it is totally different. Most 3D foamies are made out of a fairly rigid foam sheets like Depron or BlueCor. These sheets are available in different thicknesses and with some cardon rods are strong.

The planes made out of EPP foam are forgiving, bendable, and flexible. Check out their vids, one of them shows the guy throw it at the ground, nose first, tailfirst...whatever no problems. You cant do this with one from F.F. or H.L........

Anyone else make planes out of this same material? The Funplanes are just so dang ugly! I consider myself a fairly good pilot and dont plan to crash a bunch but but would like a plane to practise some pretty advanced stuff before practicing with my 40 sized planes.

Do the funplanes fly as well as the shockys or fancy foam planes?

I'm thinking of getting one of these Hell Raisers. I might be able to fill it out cheap. I have a phonex 25 ESC and a Himax Brushless 2015 4100KV motor. I would need to get that new little gearbox for it.

Do you think that a Himax 2015 will be enough to hover and have enough power to pull out?

I just put my Hellraiser together with a 2015, and there is quite a bit of work involved in getting a stick mount motor like the 2015 installed. The plane is basically made for an external rotor. As far as power, there should be plenty, but the weight will be higher than the external rotor because of the gearbox and the extra wood to get it mounted.

The E-Flight Ultimate is setup with a GWS stick motor mount. I have a Razor 350 in mine and has plenty of power.

I have both the E-Flight and Hell Raiser and I chose to build the E-Flight first because it was an easier build. I haven't even started the Hell Raiser build because the E-Flight is a blast to fly. I'm guessing that the Hell Raiser will be a better plane for precision 3D since it has a fuse (the E-Flight is a profile), however, the E-flight has been more than enough plane to get the basic's (and more advanced stuff) down pat. Has been pretty rugged too, I've never crashed it but have done a few nose over landings without any significant damage.

As the others have said, if you are not a very experienced pilot choose a EPP plane, however, if you have some experience pattern flying (or a simulator) go ahead and start with one of these planes. Just keep your 3D attempts a few mistakes high [X(] and you will have no problems.

Regards,
-Jeff

well... mavrick just got his eflite ultimate good and he flew it and i got the tribute... he likes it alot... id leap for chi hydes raptor if you know 3D... the hellraiser has fuselage breaking issues. thats its only fault... but people definitely are impressed with how the raptor looks and flies... use hobby-lobby's recomended setup except use 3s apogee 830s... ull never believe the vertical

Ya buddy , the more I fly my Raptor , the more I love it ! It is totally unlimited and is such a BLAST to fly - real quick and FUN ! I was just out back havin a ball with it - just learning our son's cool manuver where you drop to the deck in a tight KE spin and pop out in an inverted harrier a few feet off the deck for me, Chris will often pull out just a few inches high (with his PITS model-12) WOW - it will take your breath away the first few times ya do it, and man it looks way cool !! I liked the Hell Raiser a lot and still do, but this lill Raptor is much quicker and the KE is simply amazing !! It will fly KE circles, etc... W/O touching the rudder - as advertised ! My hat is off to Chip and the Hobby Lobby gang - superb plane !! I may have to get a spare soon as this one will soon die I'm sure as i get braver and stupider ! LOL [&:] That is my .2 - Keep havin FUN !! Rod in PA [8D]
