on my diblotin super I set up radio to 150% travel and select arms that will give me almost 90deg throw up and down. I leave gaps in hinge lines so that control surfaces will deflect 90deg. I use only jr3421 servos 65oz, .18speed and metal gears and no expo. I rarely use all this control but find it easier to keep sticks around center for 3d stuff. with this much throw and no expo it is challenging to fly this plane over 1/2 throttle but I rarely do. mainly fly it at walking speed. confidence is the key to down on the deck 3d, running out of throw is like running out of power while hovering. you need lots of stick in reserve to get out of trouble. good luck

no offense but that setup is just ridiculous. You lose a LOT of smoothness/precision when putting all that unnecessary throw in... not to mention no expo

I've had two of these, the second only lasted 12 min unfortunately. The control surfaces come single bevelled, which soes not allow for enough throw, except for ailerons. I would always double bevel the tail surfaces, and would get +/- 45 degrees on elevator and rudder. My first XL I had a zdz40rv-l with a header and KS can. It had enough power and was a real floater, and was same color as the picture, yellow and purple. The second XL I had a DA50 in the nose, but the plane locked out (SPCM) 2 min into the second flight and dived straight in from 400'. In the crash forum I posted that incident as "My worst frickin' day ever" he he. Anyway, to answer some questions, for dual rate I would do the following:
Low:
Ail: 2" up/down - 40% expo
Elev: 1" up/down - 40% expo
Rudder: 50% of high rate - 20% expo
High:
Ail: All you can get - 70% expo
Elev: All you can get - 80% expo
Rudder: All you can get - 40% expo
These rates are good if the plane is balanced towards the tail heavy side. If plane is nose heavy, Low Elev can be increased a bit, or some of the expo removed. One thing to reinforce on the plane before to much flying, is the rudder counter balance on top. Mine broke in flight during some maybe to fast knife edge he he.
I liked flying mine very much, but I find now that the Composite-ARF Extras, from the 2.3m to the 3.0m, have as light a feal to them and 3Ds better, but I suppose it's a different price range.
Both with my zdz40 and with the DA50, the plane came out not as tail heavy as I wanted it, so I would say the perfect engine is the elusive BME55Xtreme, until then, perhabs a BME50, if it's lighter than the DA50, otherwise the DA50 on stock muffler is great.
I did actually get a third one of this plane, a yellow and blue, but I sold it. Now I love the Composite-ARF Extra planes, have a 3m with DA150, putting a 2.6m together, with a DA100, have another 2.6m to repair and put a single 95cc conversion engine on, they really fly great.
I just remember, check the elevator anti rotation pins, and make dang sure they are glued to the fuse. I had one let go of one of my horizontal stabs, and the stab deflected the leading edge 60 degrees up, it made for a very stressful flight, but I was able to land it in one piece and fix it.
