Default Rx Battery/Servo Question For 3D !!!!!!!!

Hi Guys,

Ive just brought a Segull Harrier 3D and i was told in the store to make sure i get high Torque Servos, it takes 6 Servos soo im guessing i need 5 High Torque and 1 Standard for the throttle ? I use the Futaba 9 Cap Radio soo any suggestions as to which servos i should go with as the ones the LHS were trying to sell me were expensive.............

Also mentioned i should go with a 5 Cell 6Volt RX pack as it would give me more power ??? is this true ? the rest of my planes i fly with 4.8v sooo the question is would i benifit to switch to 6v and would my standard futaba wall charger charge it ok ? i have a multi Q quick field charger but i really want to charge them at home, so will this be ok or would i need to buy another charger ?

Thx in advance for any help........ PS (The pic below isnt my plane just to show u what it looks like)

Something in the 60-70 oz/in range should be ok.......check these out if you are on a budget. I have some and they have been fine.

If you look at the specs, you'll notice that on 6V, they are not only faster, but almost 20% stronger as well. Buy a NMH RX pack with 5 cells. It will work fine on your wall charger as well as on the NMH setting on your field charger.

Well thats not strictly true, your wall charger will not charge it,a 4.8v charger cannot charge a 6v pack but dont let that deter you, servos runa lot crisper and stronger on 6V plus your field charger will be ideal for charging it,futaba receivers are happy on 6v and so are their servos ( hitec as well )

I would be careful about running Futaba servo's on 6 volts, some have reported that they don't like the higher voltage and have fried theirs. If you want to run Futaba's get a voltage regulator and run them at 5.5 volts and they should be fine. Remember that a freshly charged 6 volt pack can put out over 7 volts. Hitec and JR seem to be fine with running at the higher voltages though.

I have the same plane (Harrier) and I am using Futaba S3010. They are on a 6 volt system, no problems. They put out adequate torque (90 oz. or so) for this plane, and they wont break you either. Tower has em for $24.99. They are pretty fast too, which is equally important if you want your manuevers to be crisp and snappier.

The 3010's are good but always have some play in them. The HT 635HB's are very similar but not much play at all.

I would go with 6 volts and never turn back.

Hmmm...I haven't noticed any play in them. In fact, I can't detect any play in them whatsoever. Maybe I just got some good ones? Dunno. They work for me.

Wouldn't "play" in a servo indicate broken gears or something?

I am flying the Harrier 3D with Futaba 3305's. They are metal geared, providing 120+ oz of torque on 6v. Futaba servos are fine on 6V, you can get a relatively inexpensive battery at servocity.com.

Well, what sucks is when you buy them, and they don't work for you, you don't want to buy more. That's Futaba's problem, not mine. I'm glad yours work though.
