hi Guys,
Was wondering where you have set your c of g. I have been flying mine now for 5 months and love it. I have been flying with a rearward c of g, as the revision sheet, but it was very unstable in the elevator and harrier, the knife edge was not too easiy either. But flat spins were great, both ways up. Now I have been moving the c of g forward and the plane is alot better in knife edge, elevator and alike but the spin is now crap. What do you guys think, I like the flat spin tricks but also the other 3d stuff which benifits form a forward c of g, it is also nicer to fly and less snappy. I was thinkin of coupled flaps for flat spins? tried spoilers for elevators but did'nt realy happen.
Cheers
Kris

Flew mine today for the first time. Added 2 ounces of nose weight to get it to balance at the CG that is on the plans (not the rearward one on the addendum sheet). Put the weight on the forward edge of the landing gear plate. When it was inverted required a lot of down stick pressure to maintain level flight. By the fourth flight both pieces were off and it still needs to be further back. Still wants to pull to the canopy in a power off dive. Will mess with it more tomorrow and post where the CG ends up for neutral flight.

I finally got it were it flies pretty neautral. Plans show 101 mm from the leading edge, I'm at 120 mm. Requires just a nudge of down stick to maintain inverted flight. Upright spins could be flatter, inverted spins look good. Good luck!

Just giving it some thought, I think I will go with the more forward c of g and as for the spins use more elevator though. I am at 45 to 50 degrees now.
Any way back to more experimentation....

I started mine off with the new cg mod and since I have done nothing but add weight to the tail. Kris is right about his assesment so far. I like the rearward CG much better and I'm working with mixing to dial the plane into a true knife edge and vertical downline. I have had to work with the engine thrust twice and I have a slight problem with the tracking on loops. I wish that I had split elevators so I could correct that easier. The plane is a blast but it takes a little work to get it dialed in. One thing thats great about it is the power to weight ratio with the YS 63 up front. When I dial mine in I'll post the CG location. Sooo many planes and sooooo little time. Mike

Mike,
It is intresting what you say about knife edge. I found mine with the forward c of g to be totaly netral in k.e. But with the rearward c of g it will pitch the canopy. All the books say that this is due to too much dihedral. Intresting I guess all models built even from a laser cut kit will have diffrent charateristics...
I think we should get the plane into context. I find that mine is somewhere between a pattern model and fun fly. Not doing either 100% but doing an aful lot more than either a pattern or fun fly model is capable of. It certainly hasn't lost theat light fun fly feel.
as far as the YS goes. Good isn't it.... I have on in my Madness on a 14 x 4 APC and it is awasome. These guys putting 2 stokes in there are defently missing something
Any way
Cheers

KRIS1, I have seen where you said that you got a Carbon Fiber main gear set......Where did you get it, how much are they, will it let you run the 14" props? Just wondering.

Hi there,
The carbon gear came from Ripmax in the UK. The gear including the 2 1/4" wheels give me 6" of hight to the top of the UC. Add to this the 2 or 3 " to the centre line of the motor shaft and a 14" prop fits easliy, you can also take it off the ground on a bumpy uncut grass field.
You could try Carbon Copy in the UK. If they don't have it they will build one. http://www.carboncopyuk.com/
Cheers
