Default 3D Mayhem ???

Just finished my 3D Mayhem with an OS Max 1.20 II w/Pump. I couldn't believe how nose heavy it came out. I had to put a set of 3300s mid through the back of the fuse to get it right. The rudder servo should really be in the back of the fuse. My question is to those of you flying a similar setup: What prop do you find it best for the 1.20? I installed an 18X6 wide APC. I wonder if that's going to be too hard on the engine.

I have a YS110 in mine which I think is several ounces lighter than your engine. But I think it has about the same power. I used an APC 16x6 at first then switch to a APC 17x4W later. That's the prop I presently use but I like both. The 17 hovers easier but I think all other stunts are better with the 16. I'm back and forth on which prop is really the best. I also mounted the rudder servo in the tail. This helps with the CG. Mine balanced just right without any additional weight. There is a thread in this forum somewhere a few pages back that has some 300 posts. It discusses a lot about this plane and what you should do. Most people are moving the rudder servo because the pull/pull configuration has a tendency to jam up. I built mine that way right off so I wouldn't have the problem. I think this is a real nice airplane. Not too many people have it but I like it the best in my fleet. I also have a Funtana 90 and a UCD 60. This one is the best in my opinion. It flys the easiest and lands the easiest and does everything I like to do better. It is simply the easiest plane to land I've ever seen. It will do an inverted rising flat spin that is really flat. It does very good waterfalls. I'm still learning the rolling circles and harriers so I can't say it does them but I'm certain it will. I can just about do these but I need more practice. Something that has been hard for me to do lately. I think you will really like this plane. I do.
Thanks,
Barry

Barry, thanks for the reply. My Mayhem hasn't had it's maiden flight yet so I have no idea how it will feel, but I have the feeling it will be easier and more stable than my 3d Magic. I'm able to hover the magic and do tail touches and just about anything, but it is too light and it gets thrown around too much. I actually learned to do the harriers and hovering with a rudder gyro until I got used to it and then removed it. It was great help letting you concentrate on just ailerons, elevator and throttle control. I went ahead and cut my 18x6w to 17". We'll see how that goes. I also put my CG at 36% making it a bit tail heavy to help out with some of the maneuvers. Did you install the rudder servo on the side or on top of the fuse?

Cheers,

Alvar

I mounted mine on the right side. I just cut a hole in the covering and built a mount for it. I reached through from the other side to help with the mount glueing. It really wasn't very hard. I feel this plane has a large span on the CG and is very flyable anywhere within the manual settings. Mine is at 35% as I recall. One thing I forgot. The axle just broke on me on the 4th or 5th flight. I didn't even land hard. It just broke off right during the flight. It flys so slow on landing that I was able to harrier land with a lot of alerion without any damage. Didn't even break the prop. But you better replace the axles before you even fly it once. They are junk. That's about the only thing I didn't like about the plane. Everything else, including all the other stock hardware is top notch.
Thanks.
Barry

Hey murcielago, i have the Mayem with an OS108 and it did balance nose heavy...so i put the rudder servo in the rear and also made a battery hatch in the rear / bottom of the fuse. i am currently at 36% and it flies really well....but i think it needs a bigger rudder....mine has a tendacy to tip to the left on a hover. other than that is a fun and excellent plane.

I just got back from the Mayhen maiden flights. Very stable, but it does need bigger rudder. The motor bogged down too much with the 18x6w even after I cut it down to 17. I borrowed a 16x4w from a friend and she came alive. Very easy to hover with very little rudder inputs, but it feels like it could use a bigger rudder for more control. Harriers are totally stationary with 15mph winds and you can just about land it on a dime. Some of the maneuvers like flat spins are hard to do due to the large wing area...other than that it's great.

Congratulations on a good maiden flight! I told you it would land really easy and slow. I'm not sure what you mean by needing more rudder. Mine seems to be to my liking. I can knife edge without using full throw, but I am not skilled yet in harriers and other stunts. So maybe in those I see the limit. Also a little surpised about your comments on flat spin. I do them inverted and can actually get it to spin like a pinwheel and slowly climb under full throttle. It's about the coolest thing I do. And it's extemely easy to do. My guess is the wind was a factor. I'll bet when you have calm conditions it will do flat spins fine. Anyways glad to hear it went well. No if I could just go fly. Snow!!! Gag!
Thanks,
Barry
