Thanks for the advice, which by the way leads me to another question: What would be the best way to seal the hinges??
thanks

i like clear monocote or hanger 9 brand. i have flown with and with out sealing the
hings and sealing them makes for a much stabler plan. i noticed no wing rock in a
slow high alpha flight. good luck.

A .91 on this Twist is rediculous. People are flying Funtana 90's with this motor. Its a little underpowered yeah, but its also a big plane and more drag. I have seen a .46 Ax fly awesome on one with pleanty of power to get out of hover.

I own a Modeltech Magic and the Magic Extra. The Magic has a O.S. 46sf w header and tuned pipe turning a 12.23 x 3.75 apc prop. Pulls out of a hover very fast, landing gear sucks on this plane, its flimsy and wheels are to small. The Extra has a O.S. 46 fx and runs the same prop, and stock muffler with no baffles. It will pull out of a hover and accellerate straight up. I love both planes. The extra is much better in high speed. It only takes a little down elevator in inverted flight. Both planes will fly slow but the magic will slow down to a crawl. I keep moving the c.g. back on both planes and they keep getting more fun to fly. I flopped my magic from about 10 ft and only broke my landing gear. The extra is real weak in the fuselage where the canopy is. I broke mine in three pieces on a stupid mistake but it was fixed and still doing great. I read about a lot of guys saying the gear is weak on the extra but I have landed mine 100+ times in the last week(I have a very understanding wife). I set both planes up with 45 degrees of deflection on all control surfaces. the extra rolls so fast I put ailerons on dual rates about 50 percent, very rarely put high rates on. I fly the magic on high rates on all control surfaces. I like to fly slow with it,learning high alpa manuevers, hovering is fun, I amstarting to fly the extra a lot slower. I dont know anything about the Twist but i love both versions of the magic.

picaro,
I have a twist with modified wing tips. I also fly mine with a Saito.72 on a APC14x4W. Perfect set up, believe me. Plenty of power, hovers between 1/3 an 1/2. I have alot of fun flying this bird because it's cheap and easy. And with the Saito .72 you will have plenty of other schoices, in case you wreck your Twist or get tired of it. There are many other terrific planes on the market but with $99 you can't go wrong.

is everyone else having trouble w\ wing rock on the twist? I am too, the only time it dont wing rock is when im landing and I try floating it for a minute without much elevator about a foot off the ground, it has no wing rock when i do it.

I have been to that spot a couple times, but its such a high angle its almost uncomfortable, and it really tries to TR. Im thinking about moving the CG more tail heavy to see how it helps, i tried spoilerons but i couldnt get it to work right, im not very experienced with spoilerons.

the problem is, i am not sure how to do that with out adding weigt (thats the last thing i will ever do to an airplane). The only thing I can think of is sliding the engine back, i have it pretty far forward on the mount, it can go back probably about a half inch i think, maybe less. Maybe i could put the battery on the backside of the servo tray?

I have my battery just in front of the tail servos. I'm only running a 2 cell 850 mah Lipo pack, so it's not as drastic as it sounds, but you can slide the battery as far back as you want.

I hate to add weight. I wont. Move the battery back as described. I think I may have to cut a hatch now...Oh well. Its on the bottom.

i guess thats what I'll do. How do you keep the batt from flying around in there? I forgot how tight of a squeeze it is back there.

Yeah, I just made a cut in the monocote and used velcro and a zip tie to secure the battery. Then I covered the cut with clear packing tape. Not extremely elegant, but effective.

lynnpreston,
I think the wing tips improved the overall characteristic in a positive way. Harriers are more stable, inverted flat spins are a riot. Just go vertical and throw both sticks in the upper right corner. She'll flip inverted and flat spins on the spot for ever with throttle wide open. The insane roll rate is still insane, although perhaps a tad tamer. I only can recommend this mod to all Twist owners. Took me only a couple of hours to complete.

I'm thinking about cutting a small horizontal groove in the wing tip from front to back, glueing a sheet of thin ply into the groove so that it sticks out maybe 3 inches, putting a couple of braces on the top and bottom, and then covering it with matching yellow packing tape. More or less is that how you did it?
Hehe, I guess the better question would be "how did you do yours" rather than me trying to reverse engineer it.

lynnpreston;
I post my pix again to show you how I did it. Don't cut a notch in the existing wing tips. It only weakens them. Just glue a piece of balsa 3/16" thick onto it.

Great looking install. Thanks for the pics. I'm going to give this a shot, although mine won't look that clean.
How wide were the tips you installed (meaning how much additional wingspan did they add)? Any methodology to that?

Do you think it adds too much weight to affect the .46 ax engine, i barely have the power to pull out, i can hold it straight up and let go and it rises about 3 miles per hour, i think its a 1.15:1 power to weight ratio.
