A few pics of mine are in this thread.

We're building two (mine, and one in arizona) for the electric demos at the TOC this year. Both will have 30 cells, and the one in arizona is supposed to be test flown today. It's 11 and a half pounds (batteries and all, ready to fly) , but with a 20X8 spinning 7100, the power should be ideal. Original plans were to use the 20X11 APC "E" prop and a diferent wind motor, but the power/speed would have been a bit high. The 20X8 should be a bit better with more thrust and a it less pitch speed. preliminary calcs show about 1.6~1.7 thrust to weight ratio with a pitch speed in the mid 50's. Still may be a bit fast, but that's what the throttle stick is for

Default The weight came in very good.

We have about 4800gr, or 10.5 pounds.

The estimated price for the ZNLine 3D machine is $500.00. At this point it is only a drawing, but we think we have a true winner in this design and plan on pressing forward rather quickly. I mention it daily and when I return after my 6 week school in South Carolina I plan on doing whatever I can to keep the momentum going on this project.

At that price....I'll guess that this plane is 1/2A size?

No really...can you hint on what size plane this would be?

Default 3 D ???????????????

Mark,
You said too much. We need one clue to start.
What engine size ???
From that we can dream.
The second clue should be the span.

Hope the best.

Do you know what plane CPLR is bringing to Las Vegas ?

Thanks

Phil

Default OK, here are some

The airplane will be an all wood kit. It will be of 2x2 format. The YS 1.40DZ or L ro OS1.40 or 1.60 series or the Webra 1.45 (I know nothing about that motor so I cannot endorse it) will all be in the right power bracket. 10-11 pounds is the goal weight. It will sport a thick airfoil for real 3D flying along with a fuselage with massive side area that will have good resemblance to it's scale counterpart.

Perhaps if the kit generate enough interest it may be offered (down the raod) in a Kevlar, foam/balsa format. Plug in wings shall be standard either way.

they flew the E-funtana in arizona yesterday,.. and hopefully I'll have my power system this week. preliminary report is good,.. but a little hotter wind motor will be tried today. It pulls out of hover but not with the authority we want apparently, so a 14 wind was replacing the 15 wind motor last night. 20X8 prop at 7100 rpms currently. I was told the 20X10 and 20X11 had a bit more power of course but seemed to cavitate and make noises pulling out of hover.

Frank Wallace has a little video (well, actually pretty big,..10 meg) posted here http://www.rccraze.com/funtana.mpg

Default CPLR at the TOC.

CPLR will be bringing his 3M ZNLine Extra to the TOC. So will Arnoud Poyet.

Now Iam thinking what plane has a big fuselage side area.
My first idea was a geebee.

Thanks

I saw the funtana at the TOC last weekend and was quite impressed, the batteries weighed 4lbs, not including the electric motor, I couldnt help but think that a guy could save 2lbs by simply using the Saito 180 for power. any comments on this combination are welcome.
Also, can anybody tell me the wing-span and area of the Funtana.
Thanks in advance to who ever can help me with that info.
Clay out!!!

span is 2 meters, length is 2 meters, don't remember the area and too lazy to go out in the shop and measure ,..somewhere in the 1200~1300 range I think.
as to the weight, yes, we have 4 lbs of battery in them,.. however, we only have 12 ounces of motor whereas the saito 180 is 31 ounces, plus you'll have a pound of fuel, a few ounces for muffler, couple ounces for a fuel tank, another ounce for fuel tubing...etc. Yes, glow would be lighter, but not the 4 lbs it sounds like, more like 1 and a half or so. i just got another U-BEC so I'll be removing 1/2 lb of reciever battery,.. so the weight difference will be even less. with glow, power might be a bit better , but not as great as you'd think. The much larger props we use with the gearing on an electric end up giving you much greater thrust for a given amount of power. our funtana's are 11.6 lbs and the electric systems with the props we were flying there make 18 lbs of thrust .

Default Pug you are the man!!!!!

Thanks to Pugsley i will be starting on my funtana Dec. I will try the plane 1st with an RCS 1.4 as i saw David Jones and Elton Fairless fly this set up last year and in Eltons hands it was very sweet. Very stable elevators on a very windy day. I think they were running a 18 x 6 prop coming in at 10 lbs 5 oz. with maybe a 8 oz gas tank. Well all, get those winter projects together so we can get some ca on our fingers.

Here are some sites i have saved for the funtana:

You have to.....Although I would look really hard at a ZNline Majesti too though, but its really expensive.
DA must be making a fortune with all these Funtanas...

How are the Funtanas surviving? I was wondering what a seasons flying is doing to them... are they robust enough or require attention? I love this plane, its a real breath of fresh air.

I want one ..but am unsure as to if or not I could build it. I'm a pretty good builder... fairly inexperienced but have built manyfunflys, and repaired much larger stuff to it's original state. I guess I woudl be able to build it, but on fail of that there are many experienced builders in my club.

am I better spending on this than a DP Extra 330L for 3D?

Petes building mine, there is just a small problem with the Profilm, so its put back a couple of weeks. A 140L will be going in mine.
