Default learn 3d, the Scale way

is there a scale plane for 46 that i could learn 3d on. i have some experience with 3d, but i am unsure of whether my short comings are the plane or my thumbs(probably the thumbs, but i think the lack of control surface doesn't help).

was thinking cap 580, katana maybe?

Sorry to say this but if you mean for a 46 sized 2C engine then I have to say almost all scale 46 sized planes cannot 3D with the 46 2C engine. A 46 sized 2C engine will 3D/prop hang only if the plane is about 5.5 lbs. Best to be about 5 lbs. I think the Matt Chapman is about 6 lbs I think, check out the ARF thread on it in here. You can try the WM Extra 30. That plane will be very nice on a 46 but its a little small (relatively speaking).

I got the Fliton Extra 330 and seemingly it will be about 5.5 lbs with a Saito 72, maybe something like an OS46AX might be a good combination for this plane. Also, check out the review of the CMPro Katana 50 in RCU, they used a 50 sized 2C and they could 3D her so easily, dig the knife edge ... maybe a 46 can too if you push it harder.

I wouldnt touch the CMPro Kat 50 with a 10foot pole, too damn heavy. If you really wana learn 3D on a 46 2/s you really should get a profile, they are light and cheap. Then if you wanna 3D scale you will have to start looking at the bigger stuff. If you get good on a profile, I mean really good a Funtana 40 might be worth a try, I know its not scale but it looks close. Other than that I think you will have to go bigger.

I agree with fly-guy...the scale 46 size planes just have too high of a wing loading especially if you put in a powerful enough motor. Get a profile.

yeah, thought that might be the case. i want to learn 3d, and i tend to pick stuff up pretty quick (got my bronze wings in 6 months, and going for gold in 3 weeks, been flying 14 months), and i want to get into scale, but am a biut strapped for cash (being 15), so yeah. what do you think of the sportsman aviation hot knife and www.modelflight.com.au?

Yah Im 14, know the feeling.

the hot knife, hmmm, never seen one fly, but for me the wing looks a little small. Not a bad lookin plane other than that. If you a builder than try www.ohiomodelproducts.com they have tons of 40 size profiles that are sweet. I bought a Bad Boy from www.precisionaerobatics.com in December and have been flying it for a while now. It is a great plane and the V2 looks sweet as, if you can find the $240, including shipping get one with a 50 2/s and you on your way. And believe me if I can find 240, than anyone can. Im saving for a 35%er (that I want by the end of high school) trouble is I need a damned car[:@]

If you dont wanna go glow get yourself a shockyflyer, Modleflight sell them, a Himax 2808-980, a E-Flite 370 (modelfight as well) or an AXI 2808-34, with some lipos and that will teach you just as well. Im putting together a T3D CapII at the moment and cant wait to fly it.

Hope that hepled,

Fly-guy

Definently get a profile, so far the best of profiles are coming from ohio models, fly guy has the link above. I learned with a twist, and it is still flying today, i have a 46 ax on it, you can also consider that!

Yah the twists is a good plane.

I thought of another one last night, the ESM Freestyle Rush, an incredible plane, stick a 50 2/s on it and run 15% nirto fuel, with a 13x4 prop and youll be laughing.

Accel KatanaP .46 is an awesome profile. IMO it keeps up with the OMP planes.

Well, the closest thing to a profile that ive flown is my twist, and it flies great! But I know for sure a profile is much better! I'll be scratch building one as soon as summer vacation rolls around.

You know it is the same plane OMP sell right?

Out of the OMP profiles, most people seem to start with the Edge, spose it doesnt matter really, but from what Ive heard its easy to fly.

Hey Fly-guy! Howz things?

You are right about the "Accell Katana". Mike from OMP helped accell sort out some issues on the plane to help get it up to par with the OMP profiles way back. OMP were the ones that really got the Accell Katana out there for everyone in the US. They started off on Ebay but that was still the bad quality ones so it didn't last very long. OMP got the quality of the birds up and started distributing them. But now lately Accell decided to sell them themselves so it is the same plane yes. And OMP still sells them.

As far as scale .40 sized planes for 3D? Well that is going to be impossible IMHO. All the 3D .40 sized birds are not even 60% scale even though some of the resemble a full size plane. But then also we have all discovered that profiles are by far the best 3D planes in the .40 sized catagory. And yes any of the OMP profiles will definitely more than fit the bill. Morris hobbies also make some really great models which perform great!

Good stuff richohealey! Just make sure that the plane you get have been confirmed by others to be fully 3D capable. If in doubt first come and ask. Plenty of info on here and most of the planes have been tried and tested by people as you probably found out by now.
