Default Diablotin Super FG Questions

I just picked one of these up on my last trip to San Diego, and the salesman said it would be great with my Saito 82 for the power plant. If you happen to have one of these rare birds, was he right? It looks to fit fairly well. And how in the world do you build this thing? The instructions are the lamest I have ever looked at. The guy just said to lay it out and glue it together! Is there any websites or pictures online that can help? I have seen one of these planes before as well as the XL, and they are built so well, and the attention to detail is far beyond anything I have had thus far. Any help would be appreciated.

i have the dioblotin super fg too and you are right the instructions are a joke...for those that want an idea, most arf's come with a set of instructions with roughly 20-30 pages, well the instructions with this arf was 1 1/2 pages....that's not a misprint, you don't even get 2 pages of instruction.

I called espiritmodels about it and asked if there was an updated set and whomever i spoke too said it was a pretty straight forward assembly....i wanted to say you gotta be kidding me but i wanted at least for him to answer me how the wings were supposed to fasten onto the fuselage, because it certainly wasn't in the instructions.....and here was the answer....there are 2 small hooks with the kit (mine came with 2 different sizes), apperently you are supposed to screw one hook for each wing from the inside of the fuse into the wing, then use a rubber band to join the 2 hooks to stop the wing seperating from the fuse....if that sounds odd you really should look at the instructions.

There is a wing tube near the LE i'm not exactly what to do at the TE since the instructions say absolutely nothing about what to do.

Choppedlow I have looked in other forums and i haven't found anything on builds for this plane.....i think the .82 would be a good match but what do i know i can't even make sense of the instructions.

If i find anything out i'll let you know but it looks like this will be a winter project with lots of modifications.

I have to admit the build on the wings and control surfaces are excellent, the fuselage is made of fiberglass and has a ugly seem running along the top, i guess i should sand it out and touch up with paint or put a strip over it. If i knew about the instructions before hand i would have passed on it....I think i'm gonna borrow a friends camera just so if anyone is interested in buying one of these, they will have an idea of what to expect.

That hook method is not odd at all. That's exactly how the Sig Somethin' Extra is done and I've even seen some giants done the same way. Personally, I used a plastic cable tie (zip strip) on my Sig SE and pretty much left the wings on all the time. If you don't like that method, you can usually replace the hooks with some small nylon wing bolts thru the inside of the fuse and into the wing root rib. You'll probably have to add some material to tap the bolt into, though. It's not a diffacult modification. I wish I was talking to you in person, because I think I could explain it better if I were.

Cheers,

Wiz

i've figured out something else to do for the wings, the biggest complaint i have is the instructions...im going to borrow a friends camera and post pictures so you'll understand what we're up against.

Your pictures really look great! Its hard to tell people how well these things are built without showing them. The covering job is the nicest I have seen, even on scratch builds. The wings are as tight as a Mormons wallet in a liquor store. But the instructions are a JOKE!!!!! I am trying to hang my Saito 82, but the wood mount they give you will not work. Or am I wrong? Is there no offset to the engine, or am I to figure it out myself? I am going to sandwich some ply and use blind nuts and use the mounts off my Funtana. Here is another question. I see you used another tail wheel. How in the world does theres work? Is it a Eastern block magic trick? Are the hinges worth using, or should I buy some robarts and some good hardware? I am working on my 2.3 Extra from Composite ARF at the same time, and the fiberglass job is just as good, and even better, in some regards. And if anyone wants to call and give me some pointers, feel free. The number is 928-502-1231. Ask for Kelly. Please, any help would make my life easier.
