I was wondering, with the right balance, with my ultra stick 40 do a lomcovak (waterfall)? Same for a blender, but I'm assuming it will do that. I would go out and see for myself, but i have cast on and flying with one is impossible. Thanks

Sorry to hear you are injured.
The Ultra is not generally considered a 3D machine, but that makes the whole idea all the more apealing if you ask me.
I have seen some good snaps out of a 60 size Ultra, and heard of some great blenders from the 40, but never gotten good blenders on mine yet. My ballance point is just behind the spar. Been thinking about modifying the elevator/ stab to get more elevator, maybe while i am at it rework the rudder too. That might be this week's project. Should be a fun adventure.

Sounds like a good idea, I was thinking of moving the elevator servo to the tail of the plane, but that would involve some intense cutting up of the tail section, and not having a bunch of experience I would worry about the tails strength. Let me know how redoing the elevator goes. Mabye I will try that once it isnt my primary plane.

SHMO46..I have the us60 and a u can do 3d...before I built the UCD I traced the horizontal stab and elevators on some sheets of paper...I then built up a HS stab and ele out of 5/16 square stock. I wish I knew how to send pics!! anyway I installed this elevator/stab assembly to my US60. It made this plane come alive!! It does waterfalls as long as you hold the stick forward,,,stop in a hover and flip over into another hover/torkroll...Its a blast to fly and so far I like it better than my u cant do 3d. I will say the ucd is fun to fly but I have to do some experimenting with cg, engine thrust, etc because about all it is good at is hovering...hovers like a kite. The US60 is the best US in my opinion because it is so lite..6 1/4 lbs with a ST75. I now have a Saito 91 on it and I like the 4 stroke better. So I say go ahead and build up a cantilever elevator and hs stab. You will like it I'm sure. It was well worth the effort.

Many thanks Ron,
Soooo nice to hear from someone who has had success with a modification like this before i start cutting into a perfectly good plane.
I saw a Ucando at my LHS, maybe i can get the proportions from that.
would definatly be interested in seeing pics of it. to load pics you enter the jpeg file location ie C: your file location/your pic.jpg in the attach file secion at the bottom of the reply page. file size is limited to 80K so you will probably have to convert it down to a smaller number of pixles before RCU can accept it.

Snownskate69,
A couple of years ago I had a cast for a broken wrist. It went all the way up to the arm pit.
I put my radio in one of those foam trays.
It wasn't the most comfortable, but I was able to fly my helicopter for the two months I was off work.
Maybe someone has a tray you can borrow to try out.
Worked for me!
Best of luck and speedy recovery,
Scott H.

snow,
I have a Ultra Stick 40 and it will actually flatspin very well. I couple my flaps and ailerons and that makes it possible. Also increase the throws to max. The Ultra Sticks control surfaces aren't that big so the more throw the better for wild manuevers.
As for "Water Fall", thats a big NO. Well, I haven't been able to at least. The Ultra Stick needs alot more Elevator. I am actually going to make my elevator and rudder larger, so once I do that I'll tell you if that works.

Flatspin,
I like the idea of making a different stab for the US60.
I absolutely love how mine flies--your mod would really make it a hoot!
Can you try to do some pics or drawings or something??
Thanks!!

Thanks for trying Ron,
The Ucan do is sold out here, but i found a picture of it in RCM. Man! thats a heck of a lot of elevator! Preety scarey looking, but i started framing one up. I'm going to keep the same shape and size as the original US , just move the hinge forward 1.5 inces. and add a little counter ballance.
The old stab came off pretty easy, just stabbed into the stab with an exacto to ensure that the wood of the stab peels and not the wood of the fuse. with a bit of luck, I'll get to try it out next weekend.

HI SHMO46...I think what I'll have to do is get my neighbor, who knows alot about PC's to come down and show me how it's done. One thing about "sticks" is you can experiment quite a bit with them and be pretty certain they will still fly as long as you dont get too radical. Send me some pics of yours when you get it done.

Well I got the cast off today and tried a flat spin. The closest I got was large inverted circle. Big man, where do you put the control sticks to do it, and how do you enter it?
Thanks

OK, lets see. This is a sure fire way, for me, to get in a spin. It takes some altitude to do this so clime high.
Stall you plane facing straight up. As your plane rolls over facing the ground push your ail/elv stick to the left and full throttle. Then slowly push your rudder to the right (your left stick is up and right). Slowly pull back on your elevator (now your right stick is down and left). Then slowly push your right stick to the right giving opposite aileron (your right stick is now down and right).
Presto, inverted flat spin.
Sometimes it’s easier than others. Most of the time it flies right into it.
Good Luck!
