If you want to use a Saito wait for the 220. I am flying one with an OS 160 and it still could use a little more power.

Agreed. The 180 is definitely the LOW end of the recommended engine spectrum. If you can manage to save an extra couple hundred bucks, I think, for nitro, the YS160DZ is THE engine for this plane.

What are some other engine options guys My plane will be here tommorrow so I need to decide A da 50 looks good but a little pricy What about a g 62 with the ignition mod done to it. THing is I am a dealer and can get them cheaper for myself but not a da so If If it would work ok then I could get the 62 and the ignition for well under a new da 50. Guys use them in the wildhares I have read WHat do you think about for the 260?

G62 = WAYYYYY too heavy for the 260. The wildhare planes have around 1360 squares. The 260 has 1134. The G-62 is too heavy for the WHs in my opinion. You'll be way happier if you keep it light.

I'm actually kinda dissapointed with Horizon for putting this plane out, though they knew EXACTLY what they were doing. They built a plane that's almost too big for existing glow motors, and too small for decent gassers... then they announce the Saito 2.20. They just created 2 products that make a market for each other. Sneaky sneaky.

I think that if you can get the plane to 11.5 pounds or less, it would be awesome. The only problem is that most of the post I have seen shey are showing the bare plane out of the box at a touch over 7 pounds. You add 2 pounds for the 180 and that only leaves a pound and a half for servos, reciever and batteries, not to mention a full tank of fuel. The 180 will fly it. Heck at a lower elevation it wil probably even hover it (this engine with 18x6 APC makes 19 pounds of thrust), but you wont have alot of pullout authority. The plane would fly really nice and light though. I think at 15 pounds, which I think is attainable, the plane would fly pretty darn good with a 50cc engine. Lest just see how poeple like it with the 50cc engine before we "assume' that it is not gonna fly good with one. I mean I love the way it looks and it may make an alternate to the 50cc EF Yak since you cant get one of those.

I have only heard of around 8 pounds. Maybe without the engine mount they include you would get under 8.

There are other alternatives to the EF Yak, but those people that were in the market for an EF Yak would not consider this an alternative...its not even in the same performance class.
People that want a heavier plane and higher wingloading for less wind buffeting for imac or as an alternative to the GP Patty Crapstaff and don't want to pay top dollar to get into a gasser are the people in the market for this plane...them, or glow flyers looking for a new home for their lighter more powerful engines. For someone with nitro on the brain and a DZ160 sitting around are definitely drooling over this plane. People with a DA 50 sitting around and waiting for the EF Yak to come in most definitely are not.

Yeah, if horizon says the saito 220 is the right power then you can bet that a 1.80 will never work for 3D. Horizon is bad about posting marginal engine sizes with their planes. Example the 40 size funtana. The exclaimed that the saito .72 was a 3D monster on the plane. I have done this setup, left the pants off and the cowl off, used a lithum battery and the .72 is marginal at best!!! The same goes for the bigger Funtana and the saito 1.00 (from what I am told its a weak combo). IMO I wouldnt buy this plane until I let a few people test it out first. You dont want to invest that kinda money on a marginal setup. On the other hand it might be a bit small for a 50cc gasser. I saw if fly at Joe Nall, lots of IMAC but no 3D.
G-62 + this plane = PIG. BTW you dont save much weight converting it to electronic ignition b/c you got to factor in another battery pack, and switch. You will have well over 550 in the g-62 if you buy it new, get the bisson muffler, and convert it to electronic igniton and you be heavier than the DA-50 still, with less power.

This plane is no bigger than the old 540 Edge, I have one with a 180 in it and it hauls it around just fine and hovers with good pull out power and it weighs over 12 lbs.
Now I fully understand the hard core 3D guys wanting pull out power to spare, but IMO a 180 will do it for the average flyer.

We will see.. Mine should be here next week.
